Chapter 4 - Rain of Betrayal

Chapter 4: Rain of Betrayal

Lishea walked out of the Nightfang base, her face stripped of all emotion.

Rax's decision still echoed in her head like a verdict already passed.

"Hey, Lishea where are you going?" Hizek called out.

She didn't stop.

"There's no mission right now," she replied coldly. "I can go wherever I want. My personal life isn't your concern so stay quiet."

And with that, she left.

As she moved through the rain‑soaked streets, memories crept in uninvited

shared laughter, reckless fights, nights spent planning impossible missions.

Kingolo and I were the first two members of Nightfang, she thought.

And now… I may never see him again.

Her fists tightened.

No. I won't sit back and watch my friend die. Even if I have to turn against Nightfang itself.

Far away, inside Bizogle's castle

"Will this idea really work?" Bizogle asked.

Creak bowed slightly. "Yes, Master. Criminal organizations always come to save their own. They know how valuable their captured member is, the secrets, the locations, everything."

Bizogle frowned. "But how will we execute him… without killing anyone?"

"I've planned that as well," Creak said calmly.

"We'll use the corpse of a dead guard—one who closely resembles Kingolo. His wounds and outfit will be hidden. A hood over the face. The live broadcast cameras will be placed among the crowd. To the world, it will look real."

Bizogle leaned back. "Let's see if your plan holds."

Night fell.

Rain poured relentlessly, as if the sky itself mourned what was about to happen.

Lishea sprinted through the streets of City Shinnera, straight toward the execution plaza at its center.

"I've destroyed all major news offices," she whispered to herself.

"All that's left… is saving Kingolo."

Then–

She stopped.

Someone stood in her path.

Rensho.

Her eyes widened but her body tensed instantly.

"What are you doing here?" she demanded.

"Don't misunderstand," Rensho said calmly.

"I wasn't stalking you. And this isn't about feelings."

His voice hardened.

"The Leader ordered me to watch you. He said if you helped Kingolo… you'd be labeled a traitor. Expelled from Nightfang."

He glanced at the ruined city blocks behind her.

"And I saw you destroying the news offices. So yes I know where you're going."

Lishea's strength finally cracked.

Tears streamed down her face.

"Why is this happening to me?" she cried.

"Was I never a good friend? I thought Nightfang was my second home… but I was wrong. I was just a tool."

She clenched her chest.

"But the one thing I have left in this world, I will protect. No matter the cost."

Rensho's eyes were empty.

"So you're prepared to die."

A razor blade sliced through the rain and struck her forehead.

She barely reacted.

"Unlucky night for you," Rensho said.

"With rain this heavy, your Shadow Tri‑Pact is useless."

Lishea straightened.

"You're underestimating me. My third contract isn't with shadows, it's with the Electric Hunter. So luck is still on my side… and maybe Kingolo's too."

Rensho checked the time.

"Fifteen minutes until execution."

Shock flashed across her face.

She slammed her hand into the flooded ground.

Electricity surged through the rainwater.

Rensho dodged instantly.

Lishea ran along a wall, launching herself toward him

A web snapped out, binding her arm mid‑air.

Before she could react, Rensho closed the distance, pressing his palm over her face.

"Boom."

The explosion tore through the street.

When the smoke cleared

Lishea lay motionless.

Her body burned, shattered, lifeless.

Dead.

No breath. No pulse. No shadow.

Rensho stared down at her.

"Did you really think you were the only one hiding abilities?"

He turned away and made the call.

"Leader. Your suspicion was correct. Lishea is eliminated."

"Well done," Rax replied without hesitation.

"Nightfang has no place for traitors. Anyone who disobeys my orders stains this organization."

The call ended.

Rensho smiled quietly, to himself.

Back at the castle

"Master, none of the news channel heads are responding," Creak reported.

"It doesn't matter," Bizogle said.

"We proceed. The execution will happen. Fake or not I won't retreat."

And so the day ended.

Nightfang continued as if nothing had happened.

But–

In a dark cell, still alive, still chained

Kingolo stared at the floor.

"…Am I really that worthless?" he whispered.

"Did no one come for me?"
