Chapter 93 - Chapter 92: Let There Be Light

"Evelyn! Come here!"

Evelyn looked up at Arthur, who was calling her, and quickly ran to his side.

Arthur directly unrolled a huge parchment blueprint on the open ground. Seeing Evelyn look at him strangely, he said:

"We don't have to walk," Arthur pointed at the cliff, his voice calm. "We'll use the cliff."

Evelyn looked at him, confused, completely unsure what he meant or how one could "use the cliff." She then looked at the blueprint spread on the ground, which depicted a complex system made of countless ropes, winches, and peculiar wheels.

Arthur decided to explain it to her later and looked at Qiba Nana: "I need some people, some who aren't afraid of heights, are brave, and have the steadiest hands."

Barna was quick, and some people were soon gathered.

"This is called a safety rope. It will protect your lives. As long as you tie it according to my method, even if you lose your footing, you'll only hang in mid-air." Arthur took out a roll of brand-new rope and personally tied a complex knot around the waist of each villager who volunteered, his movements skilled and precise.

Arthur explained every step clearly to everyone. "Just kidding, I used to be a Gray himself!"

That confidence, born of knowledge, miraculously calmed the fear in the hearts of the participating villagers.

The construction of the cableway began. Arthur stood at the edge of the cliff, leading by example. Below him was a bottomless abyss, yet he showed no fear, patting the arm of every villager about to undertake dangerous work.

Three thick hemp ropes were tied with dead knots at both ends of the cliff. Several villagers with climbing experience took a deep breath, turned their heads away from the abyss below, trusted Arthur's ropes and promises, and went ahead, driving iron spikes into every suitable spot.

Arthur took a deep breath. Fortunately, Lucien and Hakon were not here, as they were supervising the construction of the mountain stronghold. Otherwise, they would never have allowed him to go up. Ignoring everyone's dissuasion and refusing the pleas of villagers who wanted to go first, he personally climbed the cliff face, following closely, searching for the most solid rock, stepping on the iron spikes driven in by those before him.

Arthur appeared thin in the mountain winds of the cliff face, yet he was like a nail, firmly fixed in the center of everyone's vision and hearts. They had never seen such a nobleman.

No one complained anymore, no one grumbled. Everyone watched Arthur, suspended on the cliff face, their eyes filled only with worry.

"Can the rope bear such a heavy weight?" a young villager couldn't help but voice everyone's doubt. "Lord Arthur, he will be alright, won't he?"

Evelyn didn't turn her head, her eyes fixed on the young man's figure. Inside and outside the valley, everyone stopped their work. Hundreds of thousands of eyes watched, holding their breath, as the young man traversed the abyss step by step.

The crowd moved towards Arthur, praying to the Seven Gods for him. Until Arthur set foot on solid ground, under the gaze of thousands, he and these villagers completed the construction of the cableway across the abyss.

Arthur turned and gave the order. The villagers on the other side securely fastened the first carefully polished, square boulder with a rope net and hung it on the hook of the zip line.

"Release!!!" Arthur's arm swung down sharply.

The winch released, and the boulder detached from the platform. After an instant of freefall, it was sharply tugged by the rope. It slid rapidly along the taut cableway towards the outside of the valley, accompanied by a whistling wind.

The gleaming rope reflected the light, and the iron pulley spun rapidly, just like the hearts of the watching crowd, emitting a harsh yet pleasant shriek. Everyone's hearts were in their throats.

With a dull thud, the boulder landed steadily in the designated buffer zone outside the valley, kicking up a cloud of dust.

After a brief, suffocating silence, a thunderous cheer erupted inside and outside the valley. People waved their arms, roared, and shouted Arthur's name, releasing all the suppression and awe in their hearts.

"Seven Gods above! A miracle! This is a miracle!!!"
