Chapter 7 - A dangerous idea.

***

"Now I guess… wait what am I even gonna wear… there's not even any uniform here."

Then suddenly, a uniform appeared inside the cabinet.

It was a robe and a normal uniform, with a black pants.

"Wow, that's cool."

I took it.

I took it.

I dropped the towel around my waist and quickly got dressed—boxers first, then the pants, slipping them on like it was muscle memory. The inner uniform followed, light and cool against my skin, then finally the robe, which settled over my shoulders with a faint mana ripple before going completely still.

The uniform fit perfectly.

With a tired sigh, I grabbed my phone from the bed and checked the time.

6:54 a.m.

"…Oh. Still got time, I guess."

I stepped out of the room and into the dorm's living area, flopping down onto the couch. The space felt quieter in the early morning, no announcements, no alarms, just the soft hum of something I don't know.

From the bathroom, I could hear water turning on… then off… then on again.

Yeah. Luna was showering.

I unlocked my phone and started mindlessly scrolling through the academy's public media feed. News clips, orientation highlights, student rankings, spell demonstrations—

Then one post stopped my thumb.

It was her.

The girl from yesterday.

The one who'd been livestreaming during the monster incident, chanting spells while half the academy watched.

I tapped the live.

The screen opened to show her sitting on a neatly made bed, probably in her own dorm. Her posture was stiff, hands folded on her lap, expression visibly nervous.

"I— I'm really sorry about what happened yesterday," she said, bowing deeply toward the camera.

"I didn't expect my spell to malfunction, and for it to break my clothes…"

She bowed again.

And then, again…

The comments exploded.

——

[Viewer_48291]: no, it was amazing,

[SpellFan99]: Its so Amazing don't apologize, maybe we want more.

[ManaAddict]: Accident or not, that spell was cracked, or maybe I'll cracked… ayo!!!

[RankWatcher]: VAHARD gonna recruit you early fr

[SomeGuy]: RAHHHHHHH, Ma'am step on me!!!

[AnotherGuy]: Academy livestreams already wild day one.

[ChaosEnjoyer]: Peak content, peak everything.

[Cute moderator]: Please remain respectful… guys…

——

She bowed again, clearly overwhelmed, trying her best to stay polite while the comment feed scrolled faster than she could read.

"I'll… I'll be more careful from now on," she said sincerely."

I stared at the screen for a moment.

"…They're so weird," I muttered.

The academy had its own public network— official channels mixed with student-run streams. Combat footage spread faster than gossip, and anyone flashy enough could go viral overnight.

And somehow… Yesterday when I was in the car I saw her livestream, even though I'm not official VAHARD yet.

Power didn't just make you strong here.

It made you visible.

She bowed again, gripping the hem of her shirt nervously.

"I'm really sorry, everyone," she said softly. "Because of this incident… I think I'll be taking a short break. I might've made some of you uncomfortable."

The moment the words left her mouth—

The chat exploded even more.

——

[NOOOO_WHY]: WAIT WAIT WAIT DON'T GO

[ManaCultLeader]: BREAK?? AFTER THAT SPELL??

[Anonymous]: MOOOMMMMY NOOOO!!!

[Anonymous has gifted 800 subs]

[Cute moderator]: PLEASE REMAIN CIVIL!!!

——

The gift counter shot up so fast it started lagging.

She froze, eyes wide, clearly not expecting that reaction.

"I—uh—th-thank you," she said, bowing again, flustered. "Really. I'll… I'll see you all later."

And with that—

The stream ended.

The screen faded to black.

I stared at my phone for a few seconds.

"…Damn," I muttered. "There are a lot of weird people these days."

I checked the time.

7:28 a.m.

"…Wait. What?"

My head snapped up.

The bathroom.

The shower was still running.

I stood there for a second, staring down the hallway, then sighed and got up, walking toward the door.

I knocked once.

Nothing.

"Hey? Luna you've been there so long, it's seven bro." I called out.

"H– Hey! One second!" she shouted.

Then— muffled muttering from inside.

I frowned.

"What are you muttering about in there? Just be FAST!" I raised my voice.

"I– I know!" she replied, a little too high-pitched. "Give me a second!"

The muttering continued.

Then suddenly—

"WOO—woahohoho!!!" Luna shouted.

I jumped.

I shouted. "WHAT THE HELL!?" I shouted. "Why are you yelling?! Just hurry up!" I crossed my arm, annoyed.

"I'M COMING!" she yelled back.

A few seconds passed.

Then—

The door creaked open.

Luna stood there, hand still on the doorknob, completely flustered.

She then looked at me, stared a bit too long.

"Ah." She said, "Yes of course."

I blinked. "What?"

"N–Nothing!" she said quickly, stepping past me and speed-walking down the hall. "Bathroom's all yours!"

"weird…"

Luna didn't slow down.

***

Luna came out of the room.

She spun once.

Then again.

The robe flared slightly with her movement, the hem catching faint light.

"Woohoo," she said, with a playful tone. "Does it look good on me?"

I glanced at her, once, check her out.

Then—

"Nah," I said.

Her smile froze.

"…Wow. Okay. But it does look good in you My husband. Hehe."

"I know." I said flatly.

Luna stared at him.

"...Yea." she muttered.

Then the Familiar window appeared.

[Affection slightly increase.]

Wait what? What the heck?

With a sigh I turned toward the door.

"Let's just go," I said, reaching for the door. "We're going to be late."

"…Y–Yeah," Luna replied.

***

The walk to the academy was crowded.

Students filled the path— some strolling lazily, others sprinting as if late to everything. Then I looked around, tall, ancient trees lined both sides of the road, their branches arching overhead like a natural cathedral. The only way forward was a wide brick pathway, worn smooth by generations of footsteps.

And somehow…

Everyone was looking at us.

Whispers floated through the air.

"Isn't that him…?" some girl whispered.

"That's Luna Ebonveil, right?"

"Oh wow—he's actually handsome." another random girl whispered.

I ignored it and kept walking.

The academy soon came into view.

Harvard Academy stood tall and imposing, its gates larger than any normal entrance should be. Runes glowed faintly along the metal as the doors sensed our approach and slowly opened automatically.

Inside, the halls split left and right, lockers lining the walls in perfect symmetry. The air buzzed with magic, literal magic.

Students floated a few inches above the ground. Others practiced spells mid-conversation. Some sat on benches, reading grimoires like it was the most normal thing in the world, and some were casting nature spells.

I walked forward until I spotted a locker engraved with my name.

Before I could say anything, Luna pointed down the hall.

"Hey, Rex," she said. "I think my locker's over there. Well see you in class."

"Sure, go ahead," I replied.

She left, and I turned to my locker.

The moment my fingers brushed the metal surface, a faint rune lit up beneath my hand. There was a soft click, and the locker doors slid open on their own.

"…No key?" I muttered.

Fingerprint recognition. Of course it was.

Inside, everything was already arranged, too neatly to be natural. Stacks of thick spellbooks with embossed titles, enchanted pens that hummed faintly, scrolls sealed with wax sigils, and a wand resting in a molded slot like it belonged there.

None of it was mine.

"…Right," I whispered. "Wew… Starter kit."

Maybe every student received the same things. A standard issue set for learning magic.

That thought lasted exactly half a second.

Then another one hit me.

Magic.

My expression stiffened.

"…Wait. Magic."

A cold feeling crawled up my spine.

"I don't have magic."

I stared at the wand longer this time, as if it might somehow reject me on sight. Or explode. Either felt possible.

Then an idea slipped into my mind.

What if I get expelled?

If I can't use magic… if I fail hard enough…

Would they kick me out of this academy?

And if that happens—

"…Would I finally get out of here?" I murmured.

"…Would this weird system disappear too?"

For the first time… It almost felt like hope.

"Operation getting expelled From now on will start." I whispered to myself.
