Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Professor X

Even though Adrian and Logan had already left the U.S., the storm they'd kicked up hadn't died down yet.

The two giants of the Mutant world had both gotten detailed intel on Adrian and Logan.

"Immortality... and unknown?"

Professor Charles stared at the two files in his hand, his brows tightly furrowed.

He temporarily set Logan's file aside. He actually knew quite a bit about Logan.

After all, he was a Mutant who'd been active in the world for over a hundred years, with his footprints all over the globe.

Professor Charles, back in his younger days, even had a brief run-in with him.

Too bad he wasn't mature enough at the time, and ultimately could only brush past Logan.

Now seeing Logan's file again, he couldn't help but feel surprised. Someone as wild as Logan would actually choose to become someone else's assistant.

Professor Charles brought Adrian's file up to his eyes.

"Eighteen years old, American..."

"Abilities unknown, currently demonstrated abilities include light energy manipulation, signal shielding..."

"Controlling Earth?"

"Suspected of having self-healing abilities?"

The more he read, the tighter his brows got.

This file was insanely detailed, even completely recording how Adrian entered the lab and how he escaped from there.

What worried Professor Charles the most was the description of Adrian's abilities.

He'd seen Mutants with multiple abilities before, but people like that were either crazy powerful or completely out of control. Someone like Adrian, who showed this much stability, had basically never appeared.

"After suffering inhuman torture for so long, it's hard to guarantee his psyche won't turn dark..."

"Troublesome."

Professor Charles rubbed his temples. Most of the Mutants he knew carried wounds that were impossible to heal.

The awakening of abilities was usually accompanied by losing control and danger, and few Mutants managed to get through the early stages of their abilities smoothly. Cases like Adrian's were the extreme of extremes.

If Adrian was truly as powerful as the file described, once his abilities fully awakened, he'd inevitably seek revenge on society.

That was Professor Charles's first reaction after reading the file.

"Hank, I need to use Cerebro."

After a moment of thinking, Professor Charles finally made his decision. He had to find Logan and Adrian as soon as possible. This was his advantage—if Magneto got there first, the consequences would be unthinkable.

On the other side, Magneto Erik also received info about Adrian and Logan.

"Hire us to deal with Adrian?"

"Looks like those guys are really panicking."

Erik smirked. To secure living space for Mutants, he and Professor Charles had taken completely different paths.

The Brotherhood of Mutants occasionally accepted jobs from some corporations to handle shady tasks.

Like assassinations.

"Boss..."

"We taking this job?"

Mystique Raven, standing nearby, spoke quietly.

Erik shook his head almost without hesitation.

"No."

"Sure, the pay's good, but based on what we know, this Mutant named Adrian has unknown abilities... I think they're hiding something."

"His real abilities might be way beyond what this document says."

A thoughtful look flashed in Erik's eyes. To be able to build the Brotherhood of Mutants in a situation like this, he was definitely no idiot.

Especially when it came to missions involving hunting down fellow Mutants, he was even more careful. One wrong move could make their people's unity fall apart.

Plus, his gut told him: Adrian was definitely not simple.

As for Logan, he didn't worry about him much.

"Still, we need to track where they're going."

"This Adrian might be someone we can bring over to our side."

Erik put down the paper in his hand, his tone firm.

"Understood." Mystique Raven nodded in response. Just from a strategic value perspective alone, Adrian was seriously impressive. If he could be brought into the Brotherhood, he'd definitely be a game-changing force.

In the underground base deep within the Mutant Academy at Xavier Mansion.

The long-sealed Cerebro was reactivated, and a faint blue light rapidly flowed along the precise circuits, lighting up the entire space.

Professor Charles put on the specially designed helmet according to procedure. This device could massively boost his psychic abilities, making his already powerful brainwaves undergo a huge leap, his mental power enough to cover the entire world.

But it was exactly this terrifying ability that, in countless parallel timelines, repeatedly pushed Mutants to the edge of despair.

The main reason was that Professor Charles was too idealistic. He always believed humans and Mutants could coexist peacefully, but he underestimated politicians' greed and fear.

Nobody wanted to live every day under a sword hanging over their heads.

To seek peace through peace, then peace dies. To seek peace through struggle, then peace survives. Like a great man once said, throw one punch to avoid a hundred punches. That was also the principle Adrian had always believed in.

"Hmm?"

Adrian, who was on his way, suddenly stopped, his expression serious as he looked up.

A powerful mental wave swept across the sky like a tide, as if some invisible eye was scanning the entire world.

"Such powerful psychic energy..."

He muttered, like he could already see the network of thoughts covering Earth.

"Professor X... Charles Xavier..."

"Is he coming for me?"

Just as his thoughts raced, Logan's eyes beside him suddenly changed. The wildness that a hundred years hadn't erased quietly faded. His body was still the same, but his demeanor abruptly shifted to this unfathomable calm.

His gaze was as still as an ancient well, but his voice, through some psychic connection, directly sounded in Adrian's ear:

"You're very special."

"My psychic energy... actually can't sense your existence."

Adrian looked up at the "Logan" beside him, his expression unchanged.

"Nice to meet you, Professor Charles."

He'd reincarnated from the Saint Seiya world, and even though his psychic energy hadn't fully recovered, he'd built this unbreakable barrier deep within his soul ages ago. Looked like it was working pretty well.

"You actually have telepathic abilities too?"

"How many abilities do you really have?"

Professor Charles's voice carried obvious shock.

The persuasion speech he'd prepared was completely useless now.

Because he saw Adrian's eyes. There was no hatred or suppression, no anger or rage—only this serene indifference and a certain unwavering sense of purpose.

This completely flipped the theories he'd formed based on the intel.

"So you specifically came to find me just to test me?" Adrian responded with no emotion.

"I just wanted to see you with my own eyes."

"Your existence will completely wreck the fragile balance between humans and Mutants."

Professor Charles didn't hide his intentions. This delicate balance had been kept up for years, and he absolutely couldn't let anyone break it.
