Cherreads

Flutter of the White Emperor 14

Ruto opened his front door quietly so as not to disturb anyone. He'd gotten home quite late as he decided to take a stroll to pass the time. In truth, he didn't fancy facing Rossweisse just yet. He didn't know why, but he didn't like the fact that she'd been angry with him like that. He understood why, but he didn't like it.

Lately he'd noticed that he'd not exercised his annoyance tactics with her like he would with others, just straightforward and (mostly) honest with her. He did, however, find it funny how he, the Hakuryuukou, was admittedly frightened of being thought of in a bad light by the Valkyrie. It was too soon for him to explore the details of what he was feeling, but he knew he was growing attached to her.

He removed his shoes and attempted to creep up the stairs. He would have succeeded too, if it wasn't for the Valkyrie in question scaring the ever living shit out of him and making him fall up the stairs.

"There's no point trying to sneak off. Come on, I'll heat dinner up, then we've gotta talk." she said without waiting for a response.

He rubbed his chin after it had collided with one of the hardwood steps and turned to look at the perpetrator.

Rossweisse was standing there in nothing but a T-shirt he'd given her for nightwear. As you can imagine, it was much too big for her but did its job just fine. Ruto felt weird and what he thought was annoying flutter in his stomach upon seeing her.

Ruto followed after her to the kitchen. He shifted uncomfortably in her presence as she waited for the microwave to finish its job.

He wouldn't meet her gaze, and it infuriated him as to why. Why was it so difficult for him?

You okay? You're all over the place in here. Albion asked, voicing her concern.

I don't know what to do, Albion. I can't look at her and I don't know why. I actually feel guilty for making her angry at me. I mean, yeah she was listening to my conversation so this was totally avoidable so technically this isn't my fault but… I don't know. he thought desperately.

It's cos you like her idiot. You don't like her being angry with you because you'd rather her be nice. It's really as simple as that.]

I guess I'd be lying if I said I wasn't getting attached in some way but, stuff with feelings was never my forte. What am I supposed to do? You gotta remember that before all this I was a shut in.

Albion was silent as the ding of the microwave broke Ruto's focus. The two of them sat down and Ruto thanked her for the food. It was Soboro Don, basically a bowl of chicken and rice.

"So, what was earlier about. No lying please, I heard everything." Rossweisse said sternly. Ruto nodded, fully willing to explain most of what the conversation was about. He wouldn't mention how he came to be in contact with Azazel though.

"I was talking to Azazel about the incident at the church earlier. One of the higher ups for the Fallen Angels, Kokabiel, was manipulating some of the more loyal Fallen to get a Sacred Gear. I was asking to confirm whether or not he actually knew anything about it and he didn't. He did, however, offer me a reward for defusing the situation." Ruto explained as condensed as he could.

Rossweisse nodded along as he explained, gaining a curious look on her face. After he'd stopped talking, Ruto began begging to whatever being would listen that she'd skip over the obvious questions.

"So you were just gaining information then?" she asked. Ruto nodded. "Well, then I suppose I can't really be mad. In the end no one got hurt too badly and no real damage was done to anything." She surmised. Ruto didn't mention that a church got totalled and that a nun died but hey, what she didn't know...

"I've come away from this with one revelation, Rossweisse." Ruto said.

Is it how much you appreciate having me around? Rossweisse thought eagerly. "Oh yeah, what was that?"

"It's that I've gotta be careful of when I take a dump from now on. After all, if your little spy act told me anything it's that you could be listening to me shit and I'd be none the wiser." Ruto said, effectively killing any hopes Rossweisse had. Ruto started laughing at Rossweisse's mortified face. She was too appalled to think of a coherent sentence to defend herself with. Ruto just ruffled her hair and smiled at her, then went and sat in his chair to begin flicking through Netflix.

Damn her hair's soft. Ruto thought in wonder.

Damn he's an asshole! Rossweisse thought in rage.

She didn't say anything and stormed upstairs to her room. Ruto looked over to the doorway with a confused expression.

The hell did I do this time? he thought. In the back of his mind he could hear Albion practically dying with laughter.

As usual, Haru was dreaming away with Rias Gremory beside him, using him as a hugging pillow. He'd grown used to it and why the hell wouldn't he? His alarm clock sounded and he groggily turned it off. He smiled as he saw Rias' crimson hair on his left side and… yellow on his right. His face morphed into one of absolute horror as he saw the smirking face of Ruto looking at him.

"Morning stud." he said, putting on a girl's voice as he winked at him. Outside flocks of birds scattered as Haru's scream pierced the air louder than any air siren. Ruto rolled off the bed clutching his mouth and stomach as he tried desperately to contain his maniacal laughter. His body shuddered from the effort while tears pooled in his eyes.

"W-w-w-what the hell are you doing here!?" Haru shrieked, bunching up his covers and pressing himself into the headboard of his bed. Rias only groaned sleepily and pulled the covers back from him.

Once Ruto had calmed his contained laughter which left his abs aching and his head light, he began to explain.

"Well, it began when I got pulled out of bed for a morning grocery run." he began.

A wild flashback appears, it uses harp noises.

"Damn that Valkyrie! Dragging me out of bed to go get groceries. It's friggin cold out here too." Ruto continued grumbling to himself as he got to the store, picked up what they needed and proceeded to head back. However, he'd passed what he'd found was Haru's house and thought What's the best way to fuck with Haru? and after a moment or two, a stroke of brilliance hit him. He grinned evilly as he deployed Divine Dividing and flew around to the back of the house to check the windows.

The idiot left his window open. We fight things that fly and can probably kill you with their brains and he leaves his window open. Ruto tutted in thought. He carefully opened the window more and silently crept in after banishing his wings. He set down his grocery bag on Haru's desk, got under Haru's sheets and waited.

More harp noises, wild flashback fainted.

By the time he finished, Ruto was sitting on Haru's desk with his grocery bag.

"I gotta say man, you really know how to mess with someone when you want to." Haru said having calmed down.

"All part of being me, dude. Say, you never told me about you and Gremory." Ruto said curiously. Haru looked down at her.

"Oh that. We're not together or anything like that, she just heals me when I'm injured and doing it like this is the best way to go about it." he explained strangely calm.

"Is that so..." Ruto trailed off. "Well, I'll leave you two be. Tell Gremory I stopped by and said hi would ya?" he said and leapt from the window.

Haru looked out the window after Ruto left. "What a strange guy."
