Em loved her new sword. She decided to call it Lunaris after learning it was made of Lunestia Silver which was formed from concentrated moonlight. At first, Em was hesitant to take this gift but after Ri insisted, she agreed to take it. The blade was carefully crafted so that the blade was wickedly sharp. Ri explained that Lunestia Silver was very rare and could kill monsters.
"But not only monsters, it can kill humans too, so be careful while using it okay?"
Em happily agreed. She spent most of her free time practicing with the sword, learning new formations. She got better at using a dagger too. One day, while Em was trying to make a disarming tactic, James came up to her.
"Nice sword you got there Em." He smirked
Em had to try with all her might not to strike him down on the spot "I said, I don't like nicknames. What do you want?"
"As you've got such a cool sword there I was wondering if you could let me borrow it." James smirked.
"With that attitude of yours, I'd rather die than give you it."
"Sure, sure. Emily, can I borrow the sword, please ?" James said with a mock bow.
"Urgh, I can't stand even the sight of you." Em grumbled and stormed off.
That night, while Em was lying on her bed, a thought occurred to her:
Why had Ri given her the sword?
She turned over to ask Ri but she had already fallen asleep. I'll ask her tomorrow, at lunch, Em decided. And with that final thought she dozed off.
When it was lunchtime the next day, Em sat next to Ri and said immediately: "Why did you give me the sword?"
Ri, who was happily munching on some roasted lamb, choked. "Well," Ri said, gulping down some water, "I didn't want to tell you because I thought you would worry but I was exploring the school once and I stumbled into this really dark and creepy room. Then I saw a man of some sort floating around it, he said I had to give you Lunaris."
"That's really weird, do you have any idea of who the man is?" Em asked
"Not a single tiny idea." Ri shook her head.
That night, as Em lay in her bed, her mind filled with more questions than it had been last night. She thought she couldn't sleep but as she closed her eyes, she dozed off and stepped into a world of dreams.
