Chapter 3 - Zeron Solare

He just lies on the bed for a long time , thinking about everything. Sasha brought him food and everything he needed. As the night approached, she left to let him sleep.

He wasn't sleepy. Staring at the ceiling, fully awake, was the only thing he could do. The big window was open, and the wind came inside, making the room chilly. Sasha wanted to close it, but he asked her not to.

It's suffocating in here. He thought exhaling.

The lamp flickered on the nightstand as he sat up and looked around, noticing every little detail of the room. His eyes landed on the mirror kept in the corner.

Let's see—how do I look? He thought as he walked up to it.

This kid was adorable no doubt in that. Also he had black hair—rare in Solare family. Each and every child born in Solare family had Red hair.

Cheeks were soft too. A face untouched by wars , scars or by hunger. He waved and saw the reflection waving back. Hands being so soft , with no callus.

This was Zeron Solare.

But now he was inside this child . So where was the real one? And why was he here inside this kid?

He knew somehow that it's not him being born again. So why he was here?

Yet, beneath the softness, he saw it. Not in the face, but in the eyes. A tiredness that didn't belong to a happy child. A stillness that had learned what death felt like.

He stepped away from mirror. There were too many questions but no one to answer.

I miss Edrin. He always has answers for everything.

He felt the cold breeze and felt his body relaxed. Then walked upto the window and looked outside. Moon was shining in sky with stars twinkling like talking to each other.

There was a training ground below and he saw someone training with sword. He realized it was the same boy who tried to hit him back then. He looked exhausted and after one swing he stopped.

He stood there unmoving and then dropped on his knees. Caelan could see his shoulder shaking.

Is he crying?

After few minutes he wiped his face to remove the tears and got up.

Something didn't sit right with him. That kid was all tough and being a bully but now he saw the real one—a weak , tired and exhausted child. He reached for his sword and turned to go back inside but before that he looked up, towards the window and after few seconds he left.

Did he saw me? But I really thought our eyes did met for a second.

He stayed by the window for a little longer after kid disappeared in estate. Felt the cold air brushing against his skin as a reminder that this was real.

This body.

This identity.

This life.

Everything was real.

Somewhere below, doors closed and footsteps faded — maybe that kid or could be someone else and the estate fell into silence.

A silence too practiced to be peaceful.

He finally stepped back and closed the window. The room felt too bigger compare to his little chamber in assets building. He climbed back into the bed, curling up instinctively, even though he hadn't done that in years.

Funny how body remember things that mind didn't.

Zeron Solare

Second son of personal knight of that peice of shit.

And now it was him.

But again was it temporary or it's just new identity from now on.

The words felt foreign, like clothes borrowed from stranger. He rolled onto other side and stared at wall, replaying every second, what had happened since he woke up in this body.

The training ground.

The circle of children.

The way adults looked through him instead of at his face.

And the red-haired boy—kneeling in the dark, crying where no one could see.

Assets.

The word crept inside his head, uninvited, carrying the weight of being a disposable property. He squeezed his eyes shut, chest tightened as he questioned to particularly no one.

Why am I here?

I died and left that nightmare behind. So why?

He opened my eyes again and stared at the ceiling, at the painted figures frozen mid-battle, eternally glorious and eternally untouched by consequence. Warriors, Heroes, saints, victories without cost. Lies carved in color and gold.

He thought of Edrin again. Of his voice in the dark.

He let out a quiet breath and stared into the dim room, letting the truth settle in.

I had survived.

Now I needed to understand why.

And who was that? The voice I heard in that darkness.

Survive the void.

What void? And what duties he was talking about?

Atleast he have memories from then and maybe their is a chance to—fight back.
