Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 Modification

The fall of the Constantine Wall shook the continent of Yureka. A day after the fall of the Constantine Wall, the Ylvania Empire announced that it would send millions of troops, 1,000 level 2 to 4 wizards, and Duke Alexander, the only level 5 wizard in the Ylvania Empire.

The announcement calmed the citizens and people for a while. They believed the Empire could take over and drive the orcs back outside the wall.

"I think they will fail," said Evan. He had a different opinion from most people.

Grandmasters are like nuclear weapons for a country. However, nuclear bombs are weapons of the state, while grandmasters are not weapons of the state. On the contrary, the state is the weapon of the grandmaster.

It was impossible for a level five wizard to sacrifice himself for the country. They would not mind helping the country if the risk was low, but when it came to their lives, they would definitely hold back.

Evan did not know whether the orc leader was weaker or stronger than Duke Alexander. But he knew that Duke Alexander would definitely be seriously injured even if he won.

Therefore, it can be concluded that he would eventually stop after ensuring that the orc leader was strong enough to injure him. Without the death of the orc leader, the Ylvania expedition to expel the orcs would ultimately fail.

"My Lord, if the Ylvania Empire fails to expel the orcs, I fear that many refugees will flood into our country and neighboring countries," Steven expressed his concerns.

"Refugees... You're right, we need to prepare for them."

Immigrants, isn't that what he wanted? However, the village's progress needed to be accelerated so that it could accommodate the immigrants.

Steven sighed and added, "Besides refugees, I'm also worried about what if the Ylvania Empire collapses? Wouldn't the Orcs destroy Vrution and other small countries on the border?"

"You don't need to worry about that. I'm sure other countries won't let that happen," Evan reassured the middle-aged man.

For now, the pressure would fall on the Ylvania Empire, but if Evan's prediction was correct, the Orc army would continue to pressure the Ylvania Empire until it swallowed up part of its territory before the war between the two eventually turned into a war of attrition, resulting in a stalemate.

Other countries may remain silent if the Ylvania Empire suffers, but if there are signs of collapse and chaos, then even the divided human countries will unite to suppress the Orcs.

Especially countries like Rhineland, which also borders the Moenstadt mountain range. They will definitely not let their neighbors be destroyed.

"By the way, Uncle Steven, did you deliver my message?" Evan asked.

Steven nodded. "I've already placed your order with several separate workshops. However, manufacturing will take time, and because each component is quite large, it will require several trips back and forth to transport each component."

"That's okay, take your time, there's still more than one and half month before the blast furnace is ready."

What Evan ordered was a set of components ordered separately for a steam blowing engine. A steam blowing engine is needed to blow stable air into the blast furnace.

Why didn't he go further by making a Bessemer converter? Evan believed that progress needed to be accompanied by understanding.

He needed to let the blacksmiths get used to the blast furnace and the steam blowing engine, and gain a basic understanding of metallurgy, before he could try to apply new technology. Because in the end, it was them who would be doing the work, not Evan himself.

While Evan and Steven were chatting, the horse-drawn carriage continued to leave the capital city of Zephyr.

Soon after, Evan arrived at the village. Upon arriving at the village, he shifted his focus to modifying the meditation technique he had purchased, namely the Greedy Devourer.

The greedy devourer is a technique that allows the user to create a virtual stomach. After successfully creating a virtual stomach, the user can absorb as much magical energy as possible, whether from the air, food, or directly from crystal energy, and store it in the virtual stomach.

What is unique about the virtual stomach is that it does not require the user to concentrate on digesting the magical energy and using it to cultivate the nexus.

This allows users to meditate for two hours to consume magical energy, and allow the magical energy to be digested in the virtual stomach while the user is active.

The problem with this technique is that the quality of the virtual stomach varies, as do the users.

The first problem occurs when talented users can create a virtual stomach that can hold a larger volume of magical energy and process it faster, while less talented users experience a small volume and slow digestion.

More talented users can choose better meditation techniques, while less talented users can also choose techniques that are easier and better for them.

This alone makes this technique less popular.

The second user issue is that sometimes users are too greedy and input too much magical energy, which damages the virtual stomach. This damage is very fatal because users cannot repair the virtual stomach, they can only create a new one, which takes time.

These two issues limit this technique. However, Evan believes he can solve these problems as long as he has the Wizard Time Center.

In the magic laboratory, Evan began the process of modifying the meditation technique, the Greedy Devourer.

First, he identified the process of creating a virtual stomach in the Greedy Devourer.

After a while, he obtained information about the virtual stomach.

Then, he learned that the virtual stomach was a thin layer of sac made of magical energy mixed with mental power.

Mental power is the most important measure of a person's magical talent. Talented children usually have good mental power scores and mental power growth.

"I see, since the virtual stomach is made from a mixture of magical energy and mental power, it means that the bigger and stronger the virtual stomach is, the more mental power is needed," Evan muttered.

He knew the problem, but what was the solution?

"To fix this technical problem without increasing the mental strength required, the only way is to increase the processing speed of the virtual stomach."

Evan designed a virtual stomach that was smaller than usual, but the inside of the thin sac of the virtual stomach was divided into several small sections.

This division was intended for seven types of magical energy: red, blue, green, yellow, brown, white, and black.

These types were once named fire, water, plant, wind, earth, light, and darkness. However, as times changed, wizards realized that these types were more than they had initially understood, so they decided to rename each type based solely on its color.

A simple example is the black type, which not only symbolizes darkness but also the concept of gravity and transmutation, which attract or absorb and change things.

The reason Evan divided the virtual stomach pouches was because by separating each type, the speed of magical energy processing would be faster and more controlled. For generalists, it seems that the most optimal is the seventh type of magical energy with the same amount.

After finishing, Evan then spent 10 points to apply the modification.

For the second modification, Evan added a kind of alarm. The virtual stomach pouch would send a signal by releasing a small mental attack, which was not too painful, only to alert the user.

He spent five points on this modification. In total, Evan spent 23 points, including room rental, just to modify this meditation technique. However, he had no regrets, as this meditation technique would allow him to progress faster.

The magic laboratory allowed Evan to modify things simply by modifying ideas or designs.

Wizards generally not only had to have good ideas but also had to apply the technical aspects related to those modification ideas. Evan, on the other hand, only needed to press a few buttons and use tools to solve technical problems.
