Chapter 3 - Surrounded by Snakes

JAY-JAY POV

"Wow, hotty," one of them said, eyes dragging over me like I was something on a menu.

"Hey girl, our house is a few minutes away. Come with us," another added, grinning like he thought he was irresistible.

"Trust us," the third one chimed in, "we'll show you heaven."

I raised an eyebrow, deadpan.

"You'll show me heaven?" I repeated, my voice flat enough to cut glass.

They all smirked, thinking they were winning.

I stepped toward them slowly, letting them believe whatever fantasy they'd built in their heads.

"How about I show you how heaven feels?" I said, voice low and sweet in the most dangerous way.

Their smiles widened.

Idiots.

I closed the distance, leaned in like I was about to whisper something—

—and instead swung my fist up and caught the nearest one clean on the jaw.

He stumbled back, shock wiping the grin right off his face.

The other two froze, eyes wide, like their brains were buffering.

I shook out my hand, deadpan.

"Still want to show me heaven?"

"You bitch!" one of them barked, stepping toward me

I didn't even let him finish the sentence — I drove my fist into his stomach, hard enough to make him fold over with a grunt.

And just when I thought that was it…

A few more guys stepped out from behind the corner.

Oh, come on.

I thought it was just three.

Why is it never just three?

Shit, Jay. What the hell did you do?

I squared my shoulders anyway.

"Really?" I muttered. "You needed backup? What, the first three weren't enough to embarrass yourselves?"

They came at me, and I swung back, punching whoever got close enough.

That sudden kick of energy kept me moving

— until one of them caught me straight in the stomach.

The air punched out of my lungs.

I hit the ground hard, palms slapping the floor as I tried to push myself back up.

"Damn it…"

Everything hurt.

Cowards. Hitting a woman like that.

I forced myself to stand, even though my legs felt shaky.

Before any of them could get another hit in, Robin and Ben were suddenly there — stepping in front of me like a wall, throwing themselves into the fight without hesitation.

Mia rushed to my side, grabbing my arm before I could fall again.

"Jay, hey—hey, stay with me," she said, voice tight with worry.

I blinked hard.

The room tilted for a second.

Great.

The drink was definitely kicking in now.

My head felt light, my stomach burned

"Mia…" I muttered, gripping her arm. "I'm fine."

One of the guys lunged toward us, arm raised, and I was too dizzy to even react.

Everything felt slow, blurry — like my body was half a second behind my brain.

Then a hand shot out and caught his fist mid‑swing.

Percy.

Nice.

He stepped forward, pushing the guy back with that "I'm‑so-done-with-everyone" look on his face.

And then — oh, he was joining the fight.

But Percy didn't care. He moved fast, blocking hits, shoving guys away, showing off like he'd been waiting his whole life for someone to give him an excuse.

I rolled my eyes, even though the drink was hitting me hard.

Idiot Percy, showing off like this was some action movie.

Then I heard my name.

"Jay, are you okay?" Yuri asked, coming toward me.

I stepped back immediately, and Mia tightened her grip on my arm like she was scared I'd fall.

"I don't need your fucking mercy," I snapped, my voice shaking more than I wanted.

Percy jogged over, breathing hard, clearly done with the fight. "Jay, why are you here alone?"

PERCY POV

"I akshed you… didnd come…" she slurred, her voice wobbling all over the place.

Great.

Just great.

Her words were tripping over each other like they were drunk too.

"How many glasses did you drink?" I asked, already done with this entire disaster.

She blinked at me like she was trying to count the air.

Oh god.

I'm going to have to take her to my house.

Boss is going to kill me.

And her.

And then me again for letting her get drunk in the first place.

"Percy, I only drank one glass," Jay said, stumbling toward me.

I had to grab her before she face‑planted into the floor.

She was holding up three fingers.

"Jay… you're holding three fingers," I said, rubbing my forehead because I could already feel the migraine forming.

Jay burst out laughing — loud, unhinged, like she just heard the funniest joke in the universe.

Great.

She's officially gone.

"What the fuck?" Keifer said, staring at Jay and the guys on the floor like he walked into the wrong movie.

"Will she be okay?"

"I think she is fully drunk,"

"Good thing Barakuda didn't come,"

The whispers spread through Section E like wildfire.

Then Jay poked my cheek. Hard.

"Percyyyy."

"Ow—baby sistah, you're hurting my handsomeness," I said, trying to pry her finger off my face.

She giggled like a gremlin.

Keifer threw his hands up. "What the fuck is going on here?"

I looked at him, then at Jay hanging off my arm, then at the idiots she fought earlier groaning on the floor.

"Isn't it obvious she got drunk and got into a fight?" I snapped, because honestly, the only reason she was in this mess was because of them.

Damn girl — she's a woman but fights like a whole man.

"Jay, are you hurt?" Ben asked, stepping closer.

Jay blinked at him, then suddenly lit up. "Benny!"

And she threw her arms around him like he was a giant teddy bear.

"Oh my god, she is gone. Like completely gone," Robin said, rubbing his face.

"Let's take her home," Mia said firmly.

I nodded, ready to grab Jay and get her out of this disaster before she passed out on the floor.

But before I could even move—

Keifer stormed in, grabbed Jay by the arm, and yanked her away from Ben.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Keifer yelled at her, eyes blazing.

Jay flinched, her voice cracking. "You mother‑fucker, let me go!"

I stepped forward, jaw tightening so hard it hurt.

"Keifer," I said, low and sharp, "now is not the time."

He didn't even hear me. He was too busy glaring at Jay like she'd personally ruined his life.

"She's drunk, Keifer," I snapped. "Back off."

Jay clung to my arm, her voice wobbling. "Percy… there are so many snakes here. I don't wanna be here."

Yuri stepped forward like he was about to touch her — absolutely not.

I pulled Jay away before he even got close.

"Let's go home," I told her.

"I want to go back to New York," she whispered, voice breaking.

"Jay, we've been through this. You'll come to NYC soon, but not now."

"I want to go to NYC NOW!" she yelled, loud enough that the whole of Section E froze.

Every head turned.

Then suddenly — she grabbed Keifer's collar.

"You little mother‑fucker!" she screamed at him. "You asshole! You used me to get revenge on my brother!"

Her voice cracked, raw and shaking.

"Why does it hurt so much?" she yelled, tears spilling. "Do I not deserve love?"

The room went dead silent.

Jay was sobbing now

I moved fast, gently trying to pry her fingers off Keifer's collar.

"Baby sistah… please let go," I said softly.

She didn't even hear me.

"You asshole!" she cried, voice breaking. "Why make me feel like this? If the problem was between you and Aries, then go fight him! Why hurt me like this?"

Her words were shaking, spilling out faster than she could breathe.

"You happy now?" she yelled, pulling his collar tighter. "This is what you wanted, right? Me heartbroken? There—" she pointed at her own chest with a trembling hand, "see? This is all because of you!"

Her voice cracked so hard it felt like the whole room flinched.

Keifer didn't move.

But his eyes…

They were wet.

Not enough for anyone else to notice.

But I saw it.

That regret.

That guilt he tries so damn hard to hide.

That look that says he knows he messed up — and he can't take it back.

Jay kept sobbing, her fists still gripping his collar like he was the only thing holding her together and the thing tearing her apart at the same time.

And Keifer just stood there, letting her.

"Tell me why, Percy…" she whispered, finally letting go of Keifer's collar. Her hands dropped to her sides, shaking.

Her eyes lifted to mine — glossy, broken, begging.

"Do I not deserve love?" she choked out. "Tell me why… why does everyone who comes into my life either want something from me… or want me… or my body…"

Everyone froze on her last word

Her voice cracked on the last word, and something inside me snapped.

I just pulled her into my arms.

"Shh… I'm here," I murmured, holding her tight as she trembled against me. "It's okay. Your big brother is here."

She buried her face in my chest, sobbing like she'd been holding this in for years.

"What is she talking about… body?" someone whispered from Section E.

Of course they didn't know.

Nobody knew except me, Jare, and Jay.

That day… that accident… that thing she never talks about unless she's breaking.

"Tell me why I don't deserve love…" she whispered — and then her eyes rolled, her knees buckled, and she passed out.

"Jay!" Ben rushed forward, panic all over his face.

I caught her before she hit the floor and handed her to him carefully.

"Happy now?" I snapped at Section E, my voice echoing through the room. "Look what you did to her!"

I looked at Felix, disappointment written all over my face.

He met my eyes for half a second… then turned his head away.

I turned to Keifer and Yuri, anger boiling so hot I could barely see straight.

I grabbed Yuri by the collar and shoved him back. "If anything happens to my sister because of you — or your whole damn Section — you know what I can do."

His eyes widened. Good.

"Percy, later," Mia said, stepping beside me. "We have to get her home."

I nodded

I was about to leave when Keifer grabbed my wrist.

His grip wasn't angry.

It wasn't threatening.

It was desperate.

"Take care of her," he said quietly.

I stared at him.

I didn't know what game he was playing — or if this was guilt, regret, or another one of his plans.

But Jay was unconscious in Ben's arms, and I didn't have time to decode Keifer's feelings.

So I just nodded once.

Then I took Jay from Ben, carried her out, and headed straight to my car.

I drove and dropped the other three at their houses.

Robin leaned into the window before getting out.

"You sure you can handle her?" he asked, eyes flicking to the unconscious Jay in the backseat.

I nodded, waving him off. "Come on, how hard could it be to handle her?" I said, rolling my eyes like I wasn't already dying inside.

Robin snorted. "Famous last words."

Ben gave me a sympathetic pat on the shoulder. "Good luck, man."

Mia just looked at me with that you're‑in‑for‑hell expression. "Call us if she wakes up swinging."

"Yeah, yeah," I muttered, shooing them away.

They left.

"How hard could it be," I said to myself.

Then Jay mumbled something in her sleep and kicked the back of my seat so hard I almost swerved into a tree.

I closed my eyes.

Oh.

This was going to be hell.

I'd have to carry her with my handsome hands.

Great.

I was about to lose 10 kgs lifting this girl.

I grabbed my phone and called Jare.

"Percy," he answered.

"Your twin sister got drunk and knocked out three boys," I said.

"Sounds like her," he replied, not even surprised.

"Jare, she's been asking for you," I said, glancing at her through the mirror.

"I'll come soon," Jare said.

"Oh come on, that means I have to lie to her with my beautiful mouth," I complained.

Jare laughed under his breath. "You'll survive."

"Barely," I muttered, hanging up.

I looked back at Jay again.

She was drooling on my seatbelt.

Perfect.

Just perfect.

I took her to my apartment.

Carried her inside.

She kicked me twice.

Slapped me ten times.

Damn it.

Is she a woman or a man?

I finally got her settled on the couch, tucked under a blanket like a drunk burrito, and called Boss.

"Percy," Angelo answered.

"Boss, Jay is with me," I said.

"What the hell?" he snapped. "I told her Yuri would drop her off and pick her up."

"Don't trust that mother fucker guy, Boss," I said, still pissed off by what he did

"Don't tell me what to do, Percy. He is Jay's fiancé," Boss yelled.

"Well not by choice," I shot back. "You dragged her into this stupid engagement to destroy her life."

"I know what's best for her," Boss said.

I laughed — humorless. "I think she knows what's best for herself. Anyway, I'm calling to tell you this: my baby sistah is staying with me for one week. She needs a break."

A long pause.

"Fine. Make sure she's safe," Boss said.

I hung up.

Then I looked at Jay — knocked out, drooling, hair everywhere, looking like she fought a war and lost.

I sighed.

I have to cancel that engagement with that roster.

No way he's marrying my baby sistah.

Over my handsome, beautiful, perfect dead body.

Think, Percy.

You have an incredible brain.

I could ask Grandpa… but he'll get mad.

So for now, we play the long game.

Then I cancel it when I get the chance.

Yes.

Nice idea, Percy.

Genius.
