As his cultivation concluded and he exited the Ring Space, Qin Yan noticed the oil lamp on the table was still burning. He walked over, blew it out, and climbed into bed.
The next day.
Qin Yan was roused from his sleep by the resonant crowing of a rooster. He checked the time; it was four-thirty in the morning.
"This girl, she's kicked the blankets off again," he whispered with a helpless smile as he looked at Little Liya beside him.
The little girl had slept so restlessly that her blankets were tossed aside, leaving her small frame exposed. Qin Yan pulled the quilt up and tucked her in once more.
He got out of bed and walked to the window. It was still dark, the sun hadn't yet risen, and the stars were still twinkling, but a sliver of fish-belly white had already appeared on the distant horizon. The air was thick with the chill of dawn.
Suddenly, he heard the sound of wings flapping from the direction of the chicken coop in the courtyard below, followed immediately by another loud crow. The roosters were up, signaling that the sky was about to brighten.
Even though the roosters had begun their morning calls, the air was still free from the musk of the animals. Everything was so pure it was refreshing, like an ink-wash painting filled with the elegant, pleasant fragrance of fresh grass.
"Hah!"
Qin Yan stretched and took a deep breath, instantly feeling much more refreshed. The hazy drowsiness of waking up early vanished without a trace. It was time for his morning practice—and perhaps to find something to eat.
He hopped onto the windowsill and, with a soft whoosh, flew up into the sky.
Qin Yan drifted above the village, noting that the inhabitants were not yet awake. He descended once he was outside the village limits, adjusted his Gravity Suit to forty times gravity, and tested the weight with a few hops. After a brief warm-up, he began jogging along the road.
As he found his rhythm and regulated his breathing, Qin Yan began to run faster and faster. Glancing at the woods by the roadside, he leapt into the trees without a second thought.
Shu! Shu! Shu!
His figure flickered between the massive trees, leaving afterimages in his wake as he darted through the jungle.
A short while later, after covering about six kilometers through the thicket, Qin Yan finally burst out into a clearing where a gurgling stream flowed before him. He smiled; it was the perfect place to wash up. He plucked a few stray leaves from his hair, brushed the twigs off his clothes, and walked quickly toward the water.
Under the faint glimmer of the early light, the water was impossibly clear. The stream babbled and tinkled, its crisp, melodious sound flowing right into Qin Yan's heart. He followed the bank until he found a spot where the water rushed between two large boulders.
Stepping up, he scooped some water with his hand. It was ice-cold. After washing his hands, he cupped them together and took a drink, feeling the pure liquid seep into his lungs.
"Ah!" Qin Yan couldn't help but exclaim. The water was sweet and refreshing, prompting him to take another long draught.
Once he had his fill and washed his face, he continued his journey.
He crossed through more jungle, skirted a patch of desert, and bypassed a plain until he finally arrived before two great mountains. The peaks were towering and stood close together, connected by a narrow, naturally formed stone arch bridge.
Without hesitation, Qin Yan began his ascent. He moved with the agility of a monkey, his small frame leaping and climbing across the treacherous cliffs and between the two peaks.
Before long, he reached the summit. A gentle breeze blew across the top, causing Qin Yan's hair to sway slightly. Looking out into the distance, the jagged mountains stood tall amidst the swirling mist. The peaks overlapped in a winding, undulating chain that stretched as far as the eye could see, as majestic and magnificent as a storm-tossed sea.
On the distant horizon, a streak of light appeared green on top and pink below before merging into a golden-red glow that expanded rapidly. The sun was beginning to rise.
Qin Yan spread his arms, fully immersing himself in this beautiful moment. He truly felt the weight of the old poem: I must ascend the mountain's crest / It yields all others to my view.
Then, he began his training atop the peak. He practiced a set of fist forms, each strike echoing with the Tiger-Leopard Thunder Sound. With every kick, the mist beneath his feet boiled and churned. From a distance, he looked like a God of War practicing a supreme martial path.
After several sets of fist techniques, he moved on to basic exercises: push-ups, handstand push-ups, and even single-finger handstand push-ups.
Once the physical routine was finished, Qin Yan sat cross-legged to meditate. In the silence, he sensed the nature of heaven and earth.
Emptying his mind and body, he slowly drew out the Ki hidden within him. He felt the Ki flowing through his veins, circulating again and again in a continuous loop, growing stronger with every pass.
Hu!
Exhaling a mouthful of turbid air, Qin Yan opened his eyes and ended his meditation.
By now, the sun had fully risen, and the world was bright and clear. The mist in the valley below had dissipated, revealing the lush green of the mountains. Reflected in the sunlight, the peaks shimmered with golden light, looking like a magnificent painting.
It was time to go back. Ending his practice, Qin Yan leapt from the peak and began his return journey.
