Chapter 9 — Alone with Olivia
The taxi rolled away, and I stood in front of Zack's house for the first time since my rebirth.
The street looked exactly like it had in my last life. Same white fence, same quiet suburban street,Neatly trimmed lawns. Mailboxes that didn't start to bend or rust. The white Mercedes Benz that sat quietly in the driveway. Nothing had changed.
That was the funny thing about time. Sometimes, it was your life that gets broken… not the world around it. I stared at the white fence for a second longer than necessary, memories flickering through my mind like an old TV reel — Zack laughing, beer cans, late-night games, promises we didn't mean but said anyway. And underneath those memories…Emily's voice.
Soft and Breathless. Saying his name, Not mine.
The muscle in my jaw tightened before I could stop it. I exhaled once, calmly, and rang the doorbell. The door opened faster than I expected
Olivia carter stood there, Zack's Mom. For a moment neither of us spoke. She was exactly how I remembered and somehow completely different.
Same soft brown hair that gathered into a loose bun like she did it on the way to the door. Same tired eyes that pretended to be fine. Same sexy curves wrapped in a silk blouse that highlighted her large ample breasts and pencil skirt that hugged her lovely hips and highlighted her nice bubble butt.
She blinked when she saw me.
"Alex?"
Her voice had that warm tone. Like home that you don't want to admit you missed.
"Hey," I smiled. "its been a while."
Her gaze slowly moved over me from my shirt to Shoulders then finally stopped at my face.
Something flickered in her eyes before she hid it.
"You've… grown," she said lightly. " well why don't you come in... don't just stand there"
I stepped in. The house smelled like her cooking and expensive perfume.Zack's voice came from the stairs.
"Alex!"
He jogged down and slapped my shoulder like we were still best friends. Fake smile that seemed so obvious, Fake laugh. Same guy who slept with my wife in another life.
"Bro, you made it."
"Yeah," I said. "You said you wanted to talk, figured it got to be something important."
He scratched his neck, awkward.
"Yeah, about that… uh… actually I kinda… need like… a little cash.."
Of course, I should have known.
His mom turned sharply. "Zack."
That tone cut him in half. He froze. "No," she said, arms crossing. "You already burned through this week's allowance."
He tried to grin. "Mom...."
"No."
Her eyes narrowed. Shit I almost laughed. He pouted, then shrugged like it didn't matter.
"Whatever. We'll talk upstairs then."
We went to his room. Posters of different basket stars. Basketball shoes. The bed was slightly messy. Then He talked about stuffs like practice, about how school sucked and the hot girls in class. Mainly nothing important.Just nodded when I needed to.
I didn't hate the sound of his voice. I just hated what I remembered under it. Then his phone buzzed. He picked it up.
"Yeah, coach?" Pause. "Now? But it's Sunday—"
Longer pause, groans "Yeah, yeah, I'm coming."
He hung up and groaned.
"Bro, we got emergency practice for the upcoming Tournament on Friday. Coach is really losing his marbles."
My eyebrow lifted slightly.
"So you're leaving?"
"Yeah, like… now, now."
He grabbed his gym bag fast, shoes, jersey. Then opened his door.... looking back.
"Uh… wait here if you want. Mom's downstairs. She'll make food or whatever. I'll be back later tonight."
Perfect, seems the heavens were finally smiling at me.
"Sure," I said calmly.
He grinned.
"You're the best, bro."
That word again.
He ran downstairs, yelled something to his mom, and then the front door opened and closed.
Silence fell through the house.
Just me, and her. Soft footsteps moved in the kitchen. The quiet, soft kind.
I headed downstairs.
She stood at the counter, cutting vegetables. Jacket off now Slim nice waist, Full hips, Loose shirt that made things even worse. She didn't notice me at first. Then she finally did.
"Oh— Alex. Zack left already." She smiled apologetically. "I'm sorry he dragged you over here just to leave."
"It's fine," I said, leaning casually against the doorway. "I don't mind."
Her eyes lingered on me a second longer too long, Then she looked away.
The system's panel slid into my mind.

The effect was subtle.
She blinked once, almost absentmindedly.
Then her breath slowed.Nothing dramatic, just a barely noticeable change in rhythm, like her body had remembered something her mind forgot to approve first.
She walked toward the kitchen.
"Tea? Coffee?" she asked, voice a little softer.
"Tea is fine," I said.
I followed her.
Her house shoes tapped lightly on the hardwood floor. Sunlight filtered through the kitchen window, warming the room in golden stripes. She opened the cabinet, reached up, and for the briefest moment the hem of her blouse lifted, revealing her smooth waist.
She caught me looking.
Her smile lingered anyway.

She poured hot water into the mugs, steam rising upward. I watched the steam, not the curve of her hips as she leaned forward, because watching the steam made me look more innocent.
The system snorted.

She paused. Her eyes slowly lifted to meet mine. That was the first real shift. Something warm unfolded behind her gaze, like a closed room had just been unlocked inside her chest.
"You really did change," she said quietly.
"In a good way?" I asked, tone playful but gentle.
"In a great way," she replied before thinking, and then laughed softly at herself. "More confident. More… grounded. I don't know. It suits you."
I sipped my tea.
"I could say the same about you," I said truthfully.
Her eyebrows rose, amused. "About me?"
"You look like a woman who knows exactly what she wants," I said, then added lightly, "and exactly how to get it."
Something in her expression softened, then darkened, not sad, just unguarded
"That's… kinder than reality," she whispered.

She leaned against the counter, quietly studying me
"What happened to you?" she asked. "You used to look like you were waiting for life to start. Now you look like it already has."
"I just stopped expecting people to save me," I said, Silence. Her lips parted slightly.
She understood that sentence far more than she wanted to admit. She set her mug down.
Took two steps toward me.
Close enough now that I could feel the faint warmth of her body. Close enough that if I breathed deeper, our chests would brush.
My expression stayed neutral by intent.
The system nearly cackled.
[Target proximity threshold passed.]

Olivia hesitated for a moment. Then she closed the last bit of distance on her own. Her hand lifted slowly, uncertainly at first then slowly came to rest on my forearm. My breathe hitched but barely noticeable.
"I'm glad you're here," she said softly. "This house gets too quiet sometimes."
"You don't like the silence?" I asked, voice low.
"I like quiet," she replied, eyes holding mine. "I don't like being alone in it."
Her fingers curled slightly, unconsciously, holding me just a little tighter.

[ Reason vs Impulse balance shifting ]
[Self-control: unstable]
I didn't touch her back, I didn't have to. She stepped closer instead. Her perfume wrapped around me — clean, subtle, warmth mixed with something sweet and tired. Her gaze flickered briefly to my mouth, then snapped back up like she'd caught herself. Her breath brushed my chin.
"Alex," she whispered, "why do you look at me like that?"
I smiled faintly.
"How do I look at you?"
"Like I'm not just… someone's mother."
Her voice trembled on the last word.
"That's because you're not," I replied gently.
Her composure cracked, Just a little. Her hand slid from my forearm to my chest, over my heartbeat. She didn't seem to realize she'd done it until she felt the pulse under her palm. Her lashes lowered.
"You shouldn't…" she murmured.

Lust: 87%

She leaned closer anyway.
"I really… shouldn't."
Her face was inches from mine now. The world shrank to the space between our lips. Her breathing was unsteady, her body moving before her thoughts caught up.
The system chimed, delighted.
[Initiative threshold reached.]
[Target has decided to act first.]
[Congratulations, Host. Keep being shameless while pretending not to be.]
"Olivia," I whispered.
She froze for half a second at the sound of her name on my tongue. Then she closed the last inch of space. Her lips brushed against mine. Warm,Soft, sweet Not accidental. Finally the aura of seduction had done it's work.
She kissed me with a sudden hunger and passion, like she had been trying not to want something for a very long time, and had finally stopped pretending. I kissed her back and pulled her slightly closer by the waist as she melted into the kiss.
The system sang cheerfully in my head:
