"I want you to know something, whether this works or not. If it doesn't, you will swear and promise to remain blindfolded every moment you're with me, and we'll continue our lives as normally as we can." She looked up at him, making sure he understood how serious she was.
"I won't be me with—"
"Promise me." Viola cut him off before he could finish. "If I were in your place, and I wanted to kill myself just to get away from hurting you, how would you feel?" she asked.
The question made Sebastian pause.
He had never thought about it that way before. In his mind, dying had been the only way to keep Viola and their unborn child safe from him. But imagining Viola making that same choice, choosing death because she was afraid she might hurt him, made his chest tighten.
He finally understood how it must feel for her to watch him willingly choose death rather than stay and fight for their life together.
And somehow, that realization made him feel like even more of a coward.
