Chapter 28 - Ambush 2

Thinking about how bright his future is, Vogue felt life was perfect. And with two ladies he was teasing, life was more than perfect.

He decided to take his usual shortcut home through an abandoned alleyway between two old buildings. His footsteps slowed when he saw two shadows blocking his way. Their faces were hidden as it was nighttime. But humanity had evolved in such a way that people in this world could see properly during Ming time as though it was day time.

Vogue's footsteps came to a complete stop when he heard the sound of movement behind him. He glanced back over his shoulder and noticed that two more figures had just jumped down from the roofs of the buildings forming the alleyway walls, blocking off his path from the back.

Now he found himself stuck directly between four people who had clearly been waiting specifically for him. This was obviously an ambush.

"Yo! It's the trash! I heard you stopped attending classes because of the you're scared of the Osympic Trial and know that you'll surely become a Sunfiend so you ran. Is it true?" One of the four shadows laughed mockingly at Vogue, his voice dripping with disdain.

Vogue's face scrunched up as though he had heard something stupid. "Do you hear yourself at all? I mean, in novels, random characters are usually stupid and are meant for protagonists to step on, but can't you guys think?"

Vogue face-palmed and shook his head.

"Must you use the word 'trash'? There are literally more creative ways you can call someone trash. At least think with your brain before opening your mouth, you stupid." Vogue glared at the shadow and sighed in disappointment.

Not to mention the other shadows, the First shadow who had mocked Vogue froze in disbelief and embarrassment.

Even with the four of them surrounding Vogue, Vogue didn't even reveal a single hint of fear an instead scolded him.

Anger immediately surged, replacing the embarrassment as the shadow roared in rage. "You only know how to talk! If you applied your talking skills to your cultivation, you would have become a Peak Evolver!"

What happened next stunned the four shadows.

"Pa!" "Pa!" "Pa!" "Pa!" "Pa!" "Pa!"

"That was really creative and impressive!" Vogue clapped his hands, with a proud and impressed smile.

The first shadow felt his anger melt like snow as he waved his hand shyly. "T-thank you. If you hadn't corrected me, I would have kept making the same mistake. Plus, my brain cells fired extremely fast to come up with that."

Vogue nodded and gave him a thumbs-up. "Nah, with what I've seen, you might have figured it out yourself. You just need to work on you creativity is all."

The remaining three shadows stared back and forth at the first shadow and then Vogue, baffled with what was happening.

Then they glared at the first shadow in anger.

There were here to deal with someone and their coworker was actually bonding with the enemy?

The first shadow seems to have noticed their glare and he rubbed his nose embarrassingly and cleared his throat.

"Ahem. We—"

"You should stop talking now." The shadow beside him immediately cut him off.

Then he stared at Vogue and pointed his sword at him.

"Let's cut off his head quickly and get the hell out of here before the Enforcers are alerted by the sound of battle."

Hearing his words, Vogue's eyes glinted. He thought they were here to beat the crap of him but apparently, they were here to kill him and cut off his head.

Vogue frowned in confusion. From the time he arrived here and from the memories he recollected, he had no life or death grudge with anyone, so why would anyone want him dead?

"At least before I die, can you tell me who sent you?" Vogue asked calmly.

The first shadow felt it was an appropriate request.

"Seeing as you've accepted your death, we will tell you—"

"Shut up Luke!"

The three other shadows shouted simultaneously, stopping the first shadow from talking.

"Just speak softly; there's no need to shout at me." The first shadow muttered as his shoulder slumped in dejection.

The three shadows felt that half of their energy had been consumed by the stupid first shadow.

"Kill him now!" The second shadow growled as he moved, making the others also move with their weapons raised.

Vogue casually scratched the back of his head while thinking about a completely different topic. He was calculating in his mind how long it would realistically take him to acquire the full ten thousand Pain Points he needed for his next major system upgrade.

Just as the four assassin shadows closed the distance and were one meter away from Vogue, his entire demeanor suddenly changed completely.

His casual expression vanished and his gaze turned cold. Without hesitation, he immediately activated his Black Sun technique at full power.

"Boom!"

A massive wave of steaming hot energy suddenly blasted outward from his body like a powerful steam engine exploding.

The shockwave rippled through the air visibly as his entire body turned a deep crimson red color. Thick veins the size of a baby's finger bulged out and spread throughout his exposed neck, shoulders, and wrists, making him look like a demon from hell itself.

Instantly, his strength, speed, and physique tripled in the blink of an eye.

The four shadows that were moving as fast as a bullet instantly slowed down in Vogue's vision.

Vogue took a single step forward and the solid concrete ground underneath his feet immediately shattered into countless pieces.

"Bang!"

The air screeched as his speed battled friction, appearing before the second shadow that kept interjecting the first shadow.

Vogue formed a knife with his palm and stabbed directly through the shadows chest.

The shadows flesh gave way like wet paper and his ribs that was supposed to be rooted ring his hand were as soft as a broom stick as ur shattered to smithereens as his hands punched straight through, grabbing directly at the Shadow's beating heart!
