Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: A Battle Of Good And Evil(lol)

BOOOOOOOOOM!

A blinding column of holy light descended from the night sky like a vengeful meteor, slamming into Momonga with cataclysmic force.

The impact carved a ten-meter-wide crater into the blood-soaked plain, dirt and grass exploding outward in a violent geyser.

The shockwave whipped up a stinging gale that lashed Nigun's face and forced him to shield his eyes.

The sudden sight froze him in place. "What!?"

He forced himself to the crater's edge, heart hammering.

"Sorcerer King, crawl back to your tomb!"

There, standing calmly at the center of the devastation, was a tall, silver-haired youth clad in flowing white robes that shimmered with faint divine radiance. He faced the undead overlord without a trace of fear.

Momonga casually dusted off his black robes, the motion almost theatrical, as if the holy strike had been nothing more than a stiff breeze. He tilted his head in mock surprise.

"Ah, the Holy Domain God Lord's lapdog. I'd barely stepped out before I smelled your sanctimonious stench. Name yourself, pup."

Helant's icy blue eyes narrowed to glacial slits, the divine light around him sharpening into something dangerous.

(Yo guys! The long silly names are essential to show that they are having fun without even taking things seriously- in all seriousness, typical Overlord vibe like how Ainz invents stupid names on the fly)

"Sorcerer King, I am the third-generation Human Emissary of the Holy Domain God Lord—Helant. Remember it well, for your kind will soon learn to fear the name."

"Sorcerer King? Holy Domain God? Human Emissary?"

Nigun's mind reeled. He had never heard of any of it. None of the Theocracy's intelligence reports mentioned such titles, such beings.

But there was no time to think.

He retreated several steps from the crater's lip and glanced back at his comrades—the elite casters of the Sunlight Scripture, all knocked unconscious by the earlier shockwave, sprawled lifelessly across the grass.

Flee?

After a heartbeat of hesitation, cold pragmatism won.

"For humanity… for the Theocracy… I must get this intel out. You'll have to be sacrificed."

Subordinates could be trained again. His life, his knowledge of this new horror, could not.

He sprang up, Hero-class strength propelling him in a desperate sprint toward the distant tree line.

"Did I say you could leave?"

Momonga snorted, leaping lightly from the crater. A crackling bolt of azure lightning gathered at his fingertip.

"Dragon Lightning!"

The spell locked on like a living serpent. Nigun's eyes bulged as he threw his arms up in a futile block.

Crack!

When the blinding flash faded, he dared to open his eyes.

A soft, protective white radiance enveloped him. The deadly thunderbolt had vanished without a trace.

"I'm… alive?"

"Sorcerer King, you will not kill before my eyes!"

Helant now stood beside him, wreathed in the same gentle yet unyielding light.

"Seventh-tier spell: Radiant Aegis."

Shafts of pure, golden-white light settled over each unconscious Sunlight Scripture member like protective veils.

Seventh tier…

Where had this Helant come from, casting such legendary magic as easily as breathing?

Nigun was stunned, even as he silently thanked whatever gods still listened.

Only Zesshi Zetsumei in the entire Theocracy could wield seventh-tier spells with such casual grace.

"All humans of this world are subjects of the Holy Domain God Lord."

Helant's voice rang out, ethereal and divine, carrying an otherworldly weight.

In the glow, Nigun studied him more closely. Flawless features, skin so fine the delicate blue veins beneath were visible, chest rising and falling with calm breaths. No scales, no fangs, no monstrous aura.

Human?

"Hmph. Helant, was it?" Momonga stepped forward, extending a skeletal hand in invitation. "Why not join me? A human life lasts only a century, but swear yourself to me—Ainz Ooal Gown—and share eternity."

"Come. Join us."

"Rot away in a tomb like you? No thanks." Helant sneered, divine light flaring brighter. "When my god returns, vermin like you will be ground to dust."

He turned to Nigun. "You're from the Slane Theocracy. We're both human. We help each other. I'll hold him here. Run back and warn your nation."

Before the sentence finished, Nigun bolted.

"Thanks! I'll deliver the message!"

Helant's mouth twitched in irritation as he glanced over his shoulder.

So rude. He hadn't even finished speaking.

He set his stance, white robes billowing in the wind, and declared firmly,

"Sorcerer King, your opponent is me!"

"Enough posturing." Momonga leapt forward, voice cold as the grave. "Eighth-tier spell: Beast-Binding Barrier."

Bang!

Nigun slammed face-first into an invisible wall and slid to the ground. He spun around in horror as the translucent barrier sealed him inside like a cage.

Momonga's voice drifted over, calm and merciless.

"I keep my word. I said you would die in despair and agony—and so you shall."

A chill crawled up Nigun's spine.

For a moment, he thought he saw black mist rising from the monster—death made manifest, silent and freezing.

"No!" Helant gathered light between his palms, eyes blazing. "Seventh-tier spell: Sacred Meteor!"

Night turned to day as seven blazing white meteors tore searing trails across the sky and plummeted downward.

"Die!"

Boom, boom, BOOOOOM!!

Each ten-meter sphere slammed into the plain, shockwaves rolling outward like tidal waves, flinging Nigun to his knees inside the barrier.

Surely nothing could survive that.

"Not bad." Momonga's calm voice cut through the thunderous echoes. "You're stronger than the first Human Emissary."

Nigun's heart stopped as he looked up.

The monster hovered in the sky, completely unscathed, robes fluttering gently.

"I decided to kill you. I never break a contract," Momonga said to the trembling Nigun.

"Sorcerer King, what do you take life for!?" Helant shouted toward the sky, voice cracking with fury.

"Life? Haha." Momonga pointed a bony finger at him. "Death is the destiny of every living thing, is it not?"

Lightning converged at his fingertip, crackling with apocalyptic power.

"I won't kill you—at least not yet. Ten-Thousand Thunderbolts."

Dozens of blinding bolts struck Helant simultaneously.

"Arrrrggghhhh!!!!"

A raw, agonized cry tore from his throat as he collapsed to one knee, blood dripping from his nose and mouth, white robes scorched and torn.

Momonga landed lightly before the trapped Nigun and lifted him by the collar with effortless strength.

"Come. Savor death and suffering with me."

"No—let go!" Nigun clawed desperately at the iron grip.

As Momonga carried him past the fallen Helant, he murmured softly,

"Next time, you won't be so fortunate."

Nigun stretched out a trembling hand toward the crumpled Emissary.

"Save me… Don't pass out!"

____

I know the titles are long and silly, but the silliness matches the Overlord world. Remember Momon of Darkness & Honyopenyoko?...

Also, I'm always.. or should I say my mind is always confused with Nigun the Overlord character and Negan the TWD one (In spelling I mean). It's a weird thing..
