Chapter 3 - The Lighting Bolt and the Shield

Korven's excitement fills the room. What she had already tossed to the side as a failed mission has just turned into a chance to take down the Chosen Angels. An opportunity she refuses to throw away, no matter how much her subconscious is telling her to be wary. She writes down every thought she has on the note as quickly as one can. The page is filled with her excitement-induced ramblings, thoughts and queries about the message. As soon as she's done, she lunges towards her wall, rips the piece of paper from her notebook, and pins it to an empty spot, next to a list of catalyst items and ability types they activate and a list of people who died the day she was born. In her excitement, she fails to notice that all of her wounds had mysteriously been fixed. She rereads the note, highlighting every line until she arrives at the final word;

"Tomorrow,"

No time, no date, just

"Tomorrow."

Korven thinks to herself,

"If this were written yesterday, then 'tomorrow' is… well, today."

Korven's confusion grows,

"Is Fathe- Aldrick waiting for me now? Is there a part of the note I didn't get to?"

Only when Korven starts to ponder if she should return to her memory does she get distracted by the realization that both of her broken fingers and the rest of her wounds had mysteriously been mended. Korven's satisfaction is cut short by her realization of the source of her miraculous recovery. She moves over to the image of Aldrick and re-reads the description of Yyelters miracle; 'Guardian'.

"Gives Yyelter the ability to protect and heal the wounds of those he sees (can't be himself) when touching a shield/his shield-shaped amulet."

Korven rereads the description and highlights the words

"Of those he sees."

She reads it again

"He sees"

Korven realizes what this means,

"When did he 'see' me?!"

Every miracle comes with a limitation; Korven is forced to hurt herself to activate her miracle, just like how Aldrick can only heal the wounded he sees.

"So he either saw me, or he has a way to break his limit."

Korven can't decide which one is worse news. It's either that Aldrick is one of the strongest-known miracles, or that Aldrick has seen her in the past few minutes. Korven can't place exactly when she stopped feeling pain, but it must have been sometime recently. And the worst part of Korven's realization is;

"He would only do this if he wanted me to find out, he wants me to know how much stronger and smarter he is than I am. But why?"

Korven's mind is filled with queries as she unfurls her bandage to see what she already suspected: all her wounds and cuts have vanished.

Korven adds to her notes.

"Aldrick healed me-"

She draws an arrow to a section of the paper where there's no writing,

"-He wants me to know that I have no other choice than to meet him-"

She draws another arrow,

"-TODAY."

Korven circles the "TODAY." Sighs and shuts her notebook, defeated, knowing she can't beat Aldrick no matter how hard she tries. Aldrick Yyelter is one of Kilders' darkest secrets, and if Korven wants to accomplish her mantra, taking down "Father Guardian" is where she must start.

Korven makes up her mind, she grabs her sharpest kitchen knife and heads out. Planning on arriving early, giving her a chance to scope out any trap set for her. In turn, this gives her an advantage if things become aggressive. As Korven steps out onto the street illuminated by the morning sun, she is reminded again of how much of her days she spends inside. Her skin was pale, as if she were scared the sun would bite, in contrast to the dark pavement. Walking down the street, Korven finally feels like a regular member of society. The bright sun reminds her of the days before she discovered her miracle, the days when she lived with her parents, dreaming of becoming a police officer. The days when she believed the lies told to her by Kilder, when she didn't see through the dark mist. Yet Korven can not shake the feeling that she's being watched. Every passerby's smile seems fake, every person she passes, she suspects. Korven isn't used to kind people; she has never met one, so the harmless looks she receives make her feel uncomfortable. Korven can't forget the fact that Aldrick is a bigger threat than anyone thought, yet she is wandering into the belly of the beast. She loosely follows the path of blood drops she had left the previous day, pitying her past self, she holds a firm grip on her dagger. Korven turns into the alleyway where she woke up last night, taking her concealed dagger out of her waistband in a pathetic attempt to feel safe, but it doesn't work. Looking around at the alleyway that seems to be trapped in an eternal shadow, her eyes land on the puddle of blood that had long lost its Korven shape. Korven constantly checks her shoulder while walking down the steps into the abandoned-looking room she intended to investigate just the prior day. The apartment seemed neglected, walls torn down to make room for spectators and a pit for the fighting dogs. On one side, an empty bar, the whole room covered in yellow wallpaper and mould. It seems as if her plan to arrive early paid off, giving her more time to look around, but when she turns around, she sees him. Not Aldrick, but the impersonator she saw in her memory, Korven, whips around, entering a defensive stance with her knife.

"What is this? This wasn't part of the deal!"

Korven exclaims.

This threat doesn't faze the impersonator in the least. He places his hand on the knife and says,

"I know I'm not who you thought I was, but quite frankly, you aren't in a spot to be negotiating right now."

He continues talking in an infuriating tone,

"Now, for some unexplainable reason, Father wants to talk to you, so Im here to make sure you don't leave… early."

Korven notices the man's hand hovering near an amulet shaped as a lightning bolt. Korven stares in shock before finally calming herself down.

"You're a mira-"

She stops talking as she notices, walking in, the man whose image she had learned to hate, Father Guardian, standing right in front of her.
