The Descendants reached us before we had finished drinking.
They came across the pale grass in a tight group, no banners, no ceremony, just people who had felt the Seat change and needed to see if the plain still had a carrier on it. A few of them stopped a full ten paces short, as if the air around us had a temperature they did not trust. Orin stood up first and made the space ordinary again with her voice.
"Water. Food. Then questions. In that order."
They obeyed her. That helped.
