Chapter 6 - Being Followed

Today, Louis once again appeared at the largest shopping mall in the city.

As for why, it was obvious. He had already stocked up enough, and the plants were growing at an astonishing rate.

The reason was simple. The food here was genuinely delicious, especially the pastries. Thinking back, it seemed that across both of his lives, he had never eaten something like this. Perhaps he believed that the past had long since been buried in the sea of memories, yet from time to time it still jumped out, as if mocking him.

Still, Louis did not dwell on it too much. It was difficult to control one's own thoughts. What mattered most was not allowing oneself to be buried by them.

Carrying a box of pastries, Louis slowly headed back.

At that moment, it seemed someone called his name, but Louis did not pay it much attention.

Suddenly, Louis frowned slightly and sidestepped. As a result, Lucen's outstretched hand grasped at empty air, failing to catch Louis's shoulder.

Lucen stared at the young man before him, shock and doubt still lingering.

"Louis, is that really you?"

It was remarkable that Lucen could still recognize him. After all, Louis was clearly very different from how he had been a month ago.

Yes, drastically different.

Lucen gazed blankly at Louis, almost unable to recognize that this beautiful young man was the younger brother once abandoned by the entire family.

What had happened over the past month?

At this moment, John walked over as well. Seeing the scene, he could not help but frown, his gaze turning icy.

That was right. John had now awakened what he called a "prophecy" and spatial storage. That was how he explained it to everyone.

But in truth, that was not quite the case. He could be considered reborn.

In his previous life, when the apocalypse descended without warning, money and power became nothing more than rags. Still, at the very least, they had managed to enter the largest stronghold in City A at the earliest opportunity.

Everyone struggled desperately to survive, yet during that time, Louis began seducing those in power. And he actually succeeded, becoming a shameless kept man. In the end, he even used the power of those people to crush his own family to death.

John felt nothing but extreme disgust. However, the sensation of being torn apart and bitten to death by zombies was still deeply etched into his mind. Although he had indeed framed Louis when Louis returned home, Louis had gone so far as to slaughter the entire family because of it. That level of cold-bloodedness was truly horrifying.

After his rebirth, John was deliriously happy, and at the same time almost wanted to kill Louis immediately. Yet Louis had already been driven out of the house.

That was not right. In his previous life, no matter how much humiliation he endured, Louis had still been determined to stay in the Alexander household to enjoy wealth and luxury. How could he have left so easily?

Every day without seeing Louis was a day of anxiety and dread for John. Even though he already knew the future, even though he possessed spatial storage, if he could not kill Louis, that sense of fear would continue to gnaw at him.

Especially at this very moment, when he encountered Louis again in this appearance.

He was truly beautiful, damn it. In his previous life, Louis had relied on this very face to climb his way up, but that had been after the apocalypse. Why was Louis already this beautiful now?

A monster, a whore fit only to serve beneath men. Yet when he saw Lucen staring fixedly at Louis, John could not help but feel afraid.

He hurriedly put on a smile and looked at Louis, speaking gently.

"Louis, you've changed so much. I almost couldn't recognize you."

Louis nodded.

"That's right. Once you have money, anyone changes."

He did not spare John or Lucen even a glance before turning around and leaving.

Those two should feel lucky that this world still had laws for now, and that he was busy enough at the moment. Once the apocalypse arrived, Louis would definitely behead John first, and the rest of the Alexander family should not even dream of escaping that fate.

Yet at this moment, Lucen actually chased after him.

"Louis, how long are you going to keep sulking? No matter what, the Alexander household is still your home. Come back quickly. The outside world is far more dangerous than you think."

Thinking of how Lucen was about to bring up the matter of the apocalypse, John's heart could not help but leap into his throat.

Idiot. He had clearly said that Louis was the one who would destroy the entire family. What on earth was Lucen thinking?!

What was Lucen thinking? It was very simple. If Louis was the one who would destroy the entire family, then they could just bring him back and kill him without anyone ever finding out. With the current power of the Alexander family, that was entirely possible.

Moreover, Louis's face… Lucen narrowed his eyes, unable to suppress the turmoil in his heart. Especially when he thought about the fact that Louis shared the same bloodline as him, it only made the thrill even stronger.

Louis looked at John, whose smile was on the verge of collapsing, and at the disgust in Lucen's eyes. He gave a light laugh and said, "Don't forget, we already signed an agreement to sever our blood ties. Don't act like we're close. And don't look at me with that kind of gaze, or else I'm afraid your eyes won't stay on your head much longer."

Louis's eyes were cold and sinister, completely devoid of any hint of a joke.

Lucen could not help but snap back to his senses a little, shame instantly turning into anger.

In the past, Louis had always spoken meekly in front of them. How would he have dared to speak like this?

But before Lucen had the chance to scold him, Louis had already turned and left.

In a crowded place like this, Lucen would not act recklessly, but he had already taken out his phone.

Did Louis really think he could escape so easily? In his dreams.

The road home was the same as usual, with only one difference. Louis could feel eyes following him.

Clearly, someone was tailing him.

Ha. Perfect timing for him to test the true strength this body possessed after its transformation.

These people had obviously observed Louis's daily route before. When they saw him suddenly enter a deserted alley, the first thought in their minds was that their chance had arrived.

They did not believe Louis could have any sort of plan. There were many of them, and every one of them was taller and more muscular than Louis. Even if Louis did have a plan, it was destined to be crushed before it could take shape.

With that thought, a group of six quickly gathered and chased after Louis.

What they did not know was that Louis had been waiting for them for a long time. He carefully placed his box of pastries on the ground, then straightened up, tilting his head slightly as he looked at the group standing before him.

Only then did they notice that Louis's eyes were pitch black, so dark that it was almost impossible to distinguish between the iris and the pupil. The feeling they gave off was strangely unsettling.

It was clearly not completely dark yet, and yet it felt as though the night wind had already risen.

The man in the lead suddenly roared, "Grab him!"

The booming shout seemed to snap those who had just hesitated back to their senses.

That's right. There were so many of them. What the hell was there to be afraid of?!

As soon as the words fell, the entire group lunged forward at the same time, each of them preparing to seize one of Louis's limbs and finish the job quickly and cleanly.

But that beautiful illusion never came to pass.

Louis evaded them at an unimaginably fast speed, so fast that only afterimages remained in their vision.

Before anyone could even react, a man nearby was suddenly struck from above. The blow landed squarely on his neck, sending him collapsing to the ground. The sound of bones snapping rang out, chilling to the bone.

Louis did not stop there. He twisted his body and kicked, instantly sending another man who was rushing toward him flying. That man was hurled backward, crashing into others and knocking them down as well, before slamming hard into a nearby garbage truck, writhing in pain and unable to stand.

The leader had clearly not expected things to turn out this way. Louis was strong to an inhuman degree. This was supposed to be a simple job… but seeing the others sprawled across the ground, he could only turn and flee.

But the sound of rushing wind rose behind him, the strong gust making his hair flutter slightly.

A soft laugh sounded right beside him.

"Trying to run? That's not something you get to decide."

Louis spoke lightly, and at the same time, his hand clamped tightly around the back of the man's neck.

"Bang!"

A loud crash rang out as the man's entire face was slammed into the ground and dragged against it.

It felt as though thunderous impacts were echoing inside his skull. His ears rang with pain, and fresh blood spilled out.

Louis planted his foot directly on the man's face, grinding down as he said coldly, "Go back and tell your master to hide well. I'll be coming for them soon."

With that, he kicked the man aside and picked up his box of pastries, heading home.
