Chapter 7 - THE LOG CABIN

They ran.... They ran past trees and corpses.

Some people began to fall unconscious while some got petrified and disintegrated.

Mrs. Mason, who was still dragging Oliver's unconscious body, stopped

"Sorry Mum. You must be tired" Lenora said

"There is no time for a nap. Let's put hands together and get out of here" Kevin was scared now.

"I told you something was wrong out there but you didn't believe me" Cole murmured to Percy

"I thought you were playing games with my thoughts" Percy said

"Why would I play games like that?"

"Let's go" Kevin said, as he took the unconscious body from his mother and headed into the forest. But this time, they began to walk very fast. Everywhere around the part of the forest was slightly clear of the danger.

Back in there, Mr. Mason and Adam engaged in a serious fight. Mr. Mason had acquired three straight scars on the left side of his face. He had turned insane. He moved swiftly, rapidly, towards Adam's hand, grabbed the saber and thumped him down to the ground. Adam staggered forth. He glanced at the eyes of furious Mr. Mason

"You deserve to die!" He yelled. He growled, as his claws and fangs retracted. The pigment of his eyes changed — from glossy blue to dark red and his hairs stood upright.

Mr. Mason ran toward him and swung the blade at him but he skipped it and clenched Mr. Mason by the neck, thrusting it hard.

"Don't.... Don't!!"

"You don't have anything to say" Adam's fierce voice rang in Alec's ear. Adam tossed him up and slammed Mr. Mason back onto a tree before landing on the floor. Adam had turned away. Mr. Mason was effortlessly sorting through the ground with his hands and his right hand got a glimpse of a dagger. In the twinkle of an eye, the only thing Adam felt was a whirlwind, that blew past him. He felt scorching pain in his chest.

Mr. Mason was seen in front of Adam but they were not too close.

"Goodbye..... My friend" Mr. Mason said, coldly. Adam fell uncontrollably onto the ground. He slowly used his hand to jerk the dagger away from his chest. Blood has started emitting out of his nose, mouth and chest. He transformed into dust promptly and Mr. Mason ran into the woods.

The teens walked deeply into the woods and finally, they came across a lodge.

It was rugged and rustic, built of lumbers notched at the ends and laid upon another with spaces filled with moss, outfitted with pieces fashioned from twigs and branches — the parts of trees left over from crafting the logs.

"Finally!" Mrs. Mason exclaimed.

"Is this the dock of safety?" Kevin asked but nobody responded

"There is no way this place is safe. Even if we hide in here, some one owns this house" He said and gently dropped Oliver's body on the floor. She coughed.

"Oliver!!" Dominic smiled.

"You guys are wasting time!. Get in that cabin" Mrs. Mason said

All the teens began to steer towards the cabin, only Kevin and Oliver was left behind.

"Okay. Try to stand up let's move. Lemme help you" Kevin said and wrapped his arm around Oliver's shoulder, helping her to gain balance.

"RUN!"

Boom!!..

A bang was heard from afar. Mrs. Mason and the kids could see an enormous beast. This thing was nine hoofs tall, with raw paws and fangs. He was holding a six feet long dagger in his right bucolic hand.

Kevin and Oliver, who had fallen on the ground due to the shock of the bang, stood up and started running toward the Cabin.

Getting to there was a stiff entrance. Mrs. Mason pushed it open and they walked in

"We have to knock. Someone should be inside" Cole insisted

"There is no need for that!" Mrs. Mason said. As she was about to open the door, behind them, arrows from nowhere — Multitude of arrows was seen flying through the sky, toward them.

"Noo!!" They all yelled but as soon as the arrows got almost closer to them, something like an obstacle, with blue shady color whacked it away from the sky and they fell on the ground, vibrating.

"Woah!" They were all surprised

Getting inside, they saw some sets of tables and chairs, arranged all over the room. It looked like a one-room apartment but it was very wide and it somehow looked like a restaurant — A hall restaurant.

"Hello!" A voice was heard in the room. Whirling backward, in a stunned manner, they all saw a short woman — A very short and fat woman, with dark brown eyes and a bald head. She was awful and had a nasty smell. She held a plate of leftover strawberries.

"Hi!" Lenora was the only one that responded

"Please, let's....."

"Have a seat everybody" The woman couldn't let Mrs. Mason finish her words.

They all sat down, with a table in the midst of them.

"Her voice sounds scary" Kevin exclaimed

"She didn't even ask us questions or exchange pleasantries with us. Do she even knows us before now?" Percy asked Cole, quietly.

"I don't think so. I mean, no woman would do this — Just get strangers and give them seats" Cole replied

Cole kept staring at the woman, as she climbed onto a stool, put the plate in the dishwasher and got down. As she turned back, heading for the kitchen, Cole couldn't believe what he saw.

The woman had a tail — A pigtail.

"Hey, Cole!" Percy called out to him, noticing how he was looking at the woman

"Oh..... Nothing!"

"This is kinda strange" Dominic said. "What's strange?" Oliver asked.

"I read the weather forecast this morning and it said nothing about storms for today" She answered

"It's even more stranger because the weather forecast is still saying the weather is sunny. How possible??" Emma exclaimed

"Have some of these!" The woman came back with two trays of fruits in her hand — Apples, pineapples, oranges, grapes, strawberries, kiwis and so much more. She dropped them on the table and walked back to the kitchen.

"Fruits!" Kevin grabbed a strawberry and munched it. All of them began to eat.

"Don't you have this strange feeling?" Cole muttered

"You always feel strange!" Percy replied, with a chuckle

"I can't help it"

"Just think about it. A dangerous storm outside, gross stuff, people killing people....."

"Not people killing people!" Percy corrected.

"Yh, whatever. And houses, trees. Everything has been destroyed by the weirdos and the Storm. But this building, built with woods is still standing here. The lady isn't even bothered.... Am not sure she knows if there is a storm out there. It's just safe!"

"It's not normal but let's not try to freak her out. Let's thank heavens that we found a place like this..... In the woods" Percy said.

"That's correct. She wasn't even surprised when we smashed in. She even gave us food..... Really different." Cole confessed

"It's getting too much that I might sneak out of here" Cole added

"We just luckily ran away from danger. You can't go back into it. And like I said, let's not freak her out" Percy told him

Cole took time to look around the room. It was bigger than he thought. He just grabbed an apple out of tiredness and began to chomp it.

Twilight soon covered the surface of the earth and the moon raised, as it stood up there, doing it's job.
