Typhon

After regrouping with allied forces and replenishing supplies, Kael set off alone toward the dam occupied by the IMC. He continued his initial protocol mission: to rendezvous with Major Anderson.

The details of his journey weren't just a matter of record; they were an active legend echoing through the IMC's radio channels.

"Is that the Pilot?!" "That's him! My eldest aunt's neighbor's second uncle's youngest son's boyfriend died at his hands!!" "The phantom-like Death of Typhon?!"

Sitting inside the cockpit and listening to the intercepted comms, Kael's expression was so gloomy it could have dripped oil. Fighting the IMC was annoying enough, but being slandered like this was too much. Clearly, he was the victim of a forced self-defense scenario.

Sure, he had been a bit more proactive with his "defense" lately, but that didn't change the facts. It stung even more when he realized that while he was sleeping every night pillowed against BT's cold, hard steel frame, his other selves across the multiverse were holding fragrant girls.

"Pilot, multiple enemy Titan signals detected ahead."

BT's voice pulled Kael's attention back to the HUD.

"Understood. Initiating cleanup protocol."

Kael squeezed the trigger, zeroing the IMC soldier he'd been holding as a "key" to low-level communication secrets. He'd hoped for tactical intel, but all he'd gotten was a barrage of accusations. He leaped from the high platform, and BT reached out to catch him, sliding him into the pilot seat.

"Neural link established."

Flesh-and-blood consciousness merged with the giant steel machine. Every time he piloted BT, Kael marveled at the Resistance's neural link technology. In truth, Kael was the only one currently reaching the hardware's ceiling; other Pilots suffered from varying degrees of latency. On a battlefield, that tiny bit of lag was the difference between a successful mission and being zeroed.

Just as an enemy Stalker Titan landed, Kael performed an accelerated dash, pinning it against a wall before it could even adjust its stance. He aimed his 40mm cannon directly at the cockpit and fired. The thin energy shield failed instantly. An enemy Pilot of this caliber couldn't even last one round against Kael and BT.

As Kael piloted into the IMC chemical plant, a heavy Titan blocked his path.

"Well, well, well... another lone hero in a Vanguard-class. Welcome to Kane's party!"

Kael recognized the crazed voice. Kane was a mercenary belonging to Blisk's Apex Predators. Long-term drug abuse had fried his circuits, but he remained a Tier-1 threat with his 'Scorch' loadout and thermite grenades.

Kael pushed BT's kinetic systems to the limit and charged. Kane, startled by the velocity, fired thermite at the ground to block the advance. But Kael's 'Tone' 20mm armor-piercing auto-rifle knocked Kane's barrel off course. The grenade landed on an unlucky Stalker support unit instead, melting it into a puddle of molten iron.

"What?!" Kane roared. He had never seen a Pilot use a rifle with such precision at high speeds.

Kael delivered a heavy kick, sending the Scorch Titan stumbling back against a wall. While the heavy armor was solid, it was sluggish in close quarters. Kael pulled out a Titan-grade tactical knife and plunged it into the shoulder joint, severing the circuit connections.

"You bastard! You want to kill me? Then try it!" Kane, driven into a drug-fueled frenzy, prepared to manually detonate the thermite stored on his hull for a suicide strike.

Kael saw the movement. He used the knife to pin Kane's remaining hand to the floor and stomped heavily on the cockpit. The impact caused Kane's visual sensors to fail. By the time the screen cleared, Kael's cannon was centimeters from his face.

BANG. BANG. BANG.

The battle had lasted less than thirty seconds. Kael hauled out Kane's remains and took the Pilot's helmet.

"IMC radio detected... decrypting protocols," BT reported. " Strategic value confirmed. This will be to our advantage."

"Suggestion: Pilot, you should take an appropriate rest. You have been in high-intensity combat for four consecutive hours."

Kael rubbed his temples. It wasn't physical fatigue; it was the psychological drain of knowing that every time he went to the White Space for an update, the cockpit would feel colder when he woke up. But he had to go online; every Kael was desperate to latch onto a powerhouse's leg.

Titan Kael opened his eyes in the void.

"Bro, high-five!" Cyber-Kael shouted, desperate for the Titan world's data gold mine.

Titan Kael endured the crowding of the other Kaels with an expressionless face. One's own failure is depressing, but the success of a "friend" is often agonizing—and Titan Kael was still the only one in the collective who was physiologically a virgin.

"A newcomer is here," Titan Kael noted.

He turned to look at an exquisite, small cicada perched on Cyber-Kael's shoulder. He hadn't expected a version of himself that wasn't even human. He synchronized with the Cicada Kael's monotonous memories.

"Webbed Cave? Ziyun Mountain?"

Kael's brow furrowed as the legendary lore of the Black Myth world flooded his mind.

"Coach... I want to be a demon too!!"
