I woke up slowly, still half asleep, my hand moving across the mattress before I even opened my eyes.
"Ezra?"
My fingers found nothing. I frowned and moved my hand across the other side of the bed, expecting to feel him there. Nothing. I opened my eyes properly and stared at the empty space beside me.
"Ezra?"
Still nothing. I pushed myself up against the headboard, rubbing my face. My body was still sore from everything that had happened, and for a few seconds I couldn't remember where I was. Then I looked around. My room. I tried to remember what happened. That's right, I fainted after exerting myself. They must have carried me to my room. Ezra was supposed to be here.
"Where is he?"
I threw the blanket aside and was about to call for someone when I heard footsteps outside.
"Is anyone there?"
The door opened almost immediately.
"My Lord?"
"Where is Ezra? When did he leave? Who was—"
