"Sofia! Stop!" Alaric's voice was right behind her. He lunged, his hand catching her wrist and spinning her around.
"Let me go!" she screamed, finally ripping the diamonds from her neck. She reached for the necklace, her fingers shaking with rage. She finally ripped the diamonds off and threw them at his chest.
"Take them!" she cried. "Take the 'loaned' jewelry and your 'loaned' dress! I'm returning them right now!"
Alaric caught the necklace, looking completely confused. "Returning them? Sofia, these were a gift."
"A gift?" Sofia laughed, and it sounded like she was breaking. "The note said they were a loan! It said I shouldn't embarrass you with my 'rags.' Well, here! Take your property back!"
Alaric's face turned dark. "I didn't write any note. I bought those for you. I told Bianca to send them to you with a message telling you how beautiful you'd look." He stopped, realization hitting him. Bianca. She had switched the note to hurt Sofia.
