Chapter 4 - Chapter Four

Arya heard the captains shouting orders as they entered the 'Owners' quarters. 3 steps down, and the iron-bound door closed behind them, and they entered a small hallway with three doors in a line. The largest was in the middle and led to the main cabin, with the two smaller doors leading to two smaller cabins. Brienne, who had followed them, mentioned she preferred the left-hand side as it allowed her right hand free to swing. Beth and Clancy had the right cabin then, and Beth moved towards it. Arya stifled a mention of port and starboard, which could all come later. She, Calancy, and Nymeria all entered the main cabin. The wolf sniffed unknowingly. What was this strange smell? Arya sighed, "It's cedar," happily. Oh, the joy of that beautiful and useful, rarest of woods. The whole cabin was paneled and outfitted in cedar. "It must have cost a fortune." She moved to the window seat and flung open the two shutters, letting a huge splash of light in. She fiddled with a mechanism, and the two glass windows came away open, letting in the sea air. She could hear the 3 captains shouting orders now. "Sloop away!" "Get those dinghys down and the kedging anchor away!" "Mind the lines, lads!" "Let's tow and kedge her away from the dock, away from the land lines!" "The tide and wind are in our favor; let's not miss them." "Sail crews on the ready!" She could pick out the individual captains' voices, but they sounded as one being while ordering the ship's actions. Nymeria claimed the window seat, happily resting her head on the window's wide ledge. The slight breeze pulled at her fur, and she seemed at peace. The small door on the starboard side of the cabin opened, and Beth entered. "Our quarters are magnificent!"

"And by the by, I'm not too good to be a chambermaid to you two ladies." She smiled demurely as she found a carafe of water and some glasses for them all. She even poured a larger bowl full of water for the wolf, letting Calancy bring it to her. The wolf sniffed and then inhaled the water, dripping it gloriously from her snout before shaking the excess everywhere. The three women laughed happily, and the wolf turned to the sound. Calancy's laughter sounded like a string of little silver bells chiming.

Arya could feel the ship moving, and the view from the window began changing slowly. As the leeward wind swung round, a minor breeze entered the cabin. Shouts began to sound clear. "Get that sloop aboard and stowed!" "Alright, you monkeys, let's get those sails unfurled." "Make us ship shape for sailing, boys!" The crew was responding merrily as the ship swung entirely around, catching the wind in her sails. As the Sovereign swung round, Arya could see the wharf, and Bran and Sansa were waving goodbye. The Sovereign caught the wind and shuddered slightly like she was adjusting to the load, then surged forward with the tide and wind at her back. Just then, Arya noticed Bran's detail step forward to block a crowd of armed men who were yelling at Bran. Bran hoisted two arms in the air and pointed in Arya's direction. She could see the consternation on the men's faces until the leader turned and ran out of sight. Arya bolted for the door.
