Classroom
At that moment could be observed a classroom in where a gray-haired teacher was in front of the blackboard writing data and important dates in middle of a history class
But if one paid attention could notice how the gazes of all the students were not directed toward the blackboard but rather all were focused on a boy seated in the last row of the classroom in the seat next to the window
Could be seen the boy mentioned looking in direction toward outside of the window seeing the cars and passersby pass without caring to him in the least what the teacher said
His brown hair was messy and moved slightly with the wind while his blue eyes were much more interested in what passed outside than in what the teacher was saying
Aaron could not avoid reminiscing in his mind what passed minutes before the sensation of his elbow crashing direct against the face of Lionel was something very satisfactory
A smile installed in his lips upon reminiscing that moment while his gaze directed to the seat in front that was empty
Suddenly he came out of his stupor upon hearing the unmistakable voice of Professor Smith
"Does this lesson seem to you funny Mr. Reed" Said Professor Smith in a light ill-tempered tone upon noticing the lack of attention that the boy paid him
In that the gaze of Aaron settled on the blackboard and on the gentleman that was in front of the blackboard
Mr. Smith was a middle-aged man with gray hair and glasses whose clothing consisted in a plaid shirt together with a dress pant that by the way did not match
If to that we combine the gray hair and his visible beer belly I could not avoid remembering to my other life and in how I could have ended in the same way or even worse
"Mr. Reed" Shouted Mr. Smith this time louder upon noticing how I stayed simply quiet while I gave him a gaze that for him felt as contemptuous
Recovering the sense Aaron could not avoid hearing the laughter of his other classmates upon seeing the face of shame and the light blush of the ears of Aaron upon realizing that he had stayed in silence for more than 10 seconds
"Yes Mr. Smith" I asked him in a soft tone of voice trying to appease the anger of the teacher
"Could you tell me why you are not paying attention to the class" Said Mr. Smith with a light tone of anger in his voice while could be seen the bulging veins in his neck
"It is nothing sir" Was my response while I lowered slowly the head trying that he appeases his anger
"Let me tell you Mr. Reed that your performance in my subject has decreased exponentially" Continued with his scolding Mr. Smith while he directed toward me with the arms behind the back
"I have been studying sir" I said returning my gaze toward Mr. Smith while I raised my gaze so that my eyes could see to his frontally
"Uhmm" was the only response that could be heard to Mr. Smith while he did not remove his gaze from mine
"Very well then let's put it to the test" Was his response after our brief staring contest
"I will make you 3 questions and if you respond them well I will consider that nothing passed" Said Mr. Smith with a light tone of arrogance in his voice believing that I had already lost
"But if you respond wrong then you will have to come with your representative the next class" Said he now with a tone of voice more serious waiting for my response
Without removing my gaze from his I decided to accept his deal and make that he swallows his words
"It seems fine to me sir" was the simple response that I gave him waiting to that he makes me the questions
"First question" Said Mr. Smith with a petulant smile in his face
"What represent the 13 stripes of the flag of USA?" Said he waiting for my response
I could see how the gaze of my classmates frowned while some scratched the head trying to remember when was it that they taught us that
"The 13 original colonies" Was the simple response that I gave him without removing the gaze from Mr. Smith
I could see how the frown of Mr. Smith lightened with a light trace of surprise upon seeing that I had responded correctly while my classmates looked at me as if another head had grown on me
"Good" was the simple response of Mr. Smith after some seconds
"Who wrote the Declaration of Independence?" Said this time with a more solemn tone in his voice
"Thomas Jefferson" I responded to him this time faster and with a light smile in my face
I could see now a trace of incredulity in the face of my teacher while he tried to think in some question that makes him recover his authority in front of all the class
Then with a sharp gaze direct toward me as if he wanted to intimidate me he said
"How was called the ship in which traveled the Pilgrims in 1620?" Said in a grave tone waiting to make me fail with that question
Before that my frown puckered slightly upon realizing that that was a topic that yet we had not seen in class
If I had been any other child of the class probably would have stayed quiet without knowing what to say pity that I was not any child
"The Mayflower" was my sharp response
I could see the incredulity engraved in the face of my professor as soon as I could respond his last question when yet we had not addressed that topic in class
"Ujum" Cleared his throat Mr. Smith with a light trace of shame and incredulity in his face while he avoided looking me in the face
"You can sit down Mr. Reed" Was the only thing that occurred to him to say while he tried to resume the class
In as soon as I took seat I could not avoid hearing the murmur of the rest of my classmates whispering about what just happened
"Did you see that" said a classmate seated in the middle row
"I can't believe it" said another girl
"I always thought that he was no more than a fool" I heard say to one of the boys in the front
"Shshsh" Whispered to him quickly his friend
"Do not let him hear you didn't you see what happened to Lionel" Said with a light tone of fear in his voice upon thinking in his absent classmate
"Silence" shouted suddenly Mr. Smith trying to resume the class
After that was installed a silence in the classroom while the class followed without any other setback
Pity that that calm was seen interrupted by an announcement in the speakers
"Aaron Reed please approach to the office of the principal" was heard through the speakers of the sound system of the school
I saw how all the gazes in the classroom directed toward me while I got up to put myself on the way to the office
Directing me toward the office I could not avoid thinking in the reason for which they called me to the office and is that there was no need to be a fool to know that it was for the incident in the playground
Once I was outside of the door I gave some light knocks waiting that the voice of the interior let me enter
"Enter" said a sharp and slightly harsh voice
Giving a step forward opening the door I found me inside the office of the principal
In front of me seated in a wooden desk was a middle-aged woman
She was a woman with the gray hair tied in a bun together with a pair of glasses over an aquiline nose and a navy blue blazer
"Take seat Mr. Reed" Said with a tone of voice authoritative while pointing the chair in front of her desk
I approached to the chair and once seated I waited to that the principal talked
"Do you know why you are here Mr. Reed" Began to say the principal
"For what happened in the yard" I affirmed
"Aha, how you explain that you broke the nose to your classmate?" Said the principal now with a frowned brow in all her face which did no more than highlight all the wrinkles in her face
"It was an accident" Was the only response that I told her
"Very convenient I must say" Said the principal with a tone of poison in her voice
"What are you suggesting, that I did it on purpose?" I asked her while my brow puckered upon intuiting what she was suggesting
"I only say that it is very suspicious that the day after that you had an accident something happened to your classmate" Was what she said
"We were playing the accidents happen" Was my sharp response to what the principal said
"Perhaps you did not see that your classmate was behind yours?" Asked the principal in response
"I did not see him simply he was very short" I say while with my hands I tried to show her the difference of height that there was between Lionel and me
"Do you consider this a joke young man" Was the response of the principal raising slightly the voice
"Not at all simply I say that the accidents happen" I said with a serious tone in my voice
"You must know Mr. Reed that I called your mother and the parents of Lionel to discuss the matter" Said the teacher in a low tone
No sooner said that entered abruptly two persons and a small child behind them
Mr. and Mrs. Price together with Lionel who yet held a handkerchief in front of his nose and that in as soon as he saw me hid instinctively behind his mother
"So it was you who did this to my son" Said Mr. Price in my direction in a low tone trying to appease his anger
"Principal I demand that they expel this delinquent look how he disfigured the little face of my son" Said a scandalized Mrs. Price while pointing the bruised face of Lionel
After that followed 5 full minutes of demands and threats if the school did not expel me and forced me to apologize to Lionel
In that moment was heard someone knocking the door while a blond head peeked and entered in the office
As soon as my mama entered the first thing she did was approach direct toward my direction and examining if something had happened to me once she checked that I was whole and without any other visible wound I heard her throw out the air that she was holding
After that she directed her gaze toward the principal and asked her "What was it that happened principal?" asked my mother in an interrogative tone
Before the principal could talk was heard the sharp voice of Mrs. Price "Melissa?" said Mrs. Price in as soon as she saw the face of my mother
"Mr. and Mrs. Price" said my mother once she saw the other two adults in the room
"I should have supposed that you would be involved in this" said Mr. Price with poison in his voice
"Look what the savage of your son did to my little one!!" said Mrs. Price hysterical pointing the bruised face of Lionel and is that once he removed the bandage could be appreciated his swollen nose together with the dried blood
"It was an accident" was the only thing I said trying to appease the things
"You shut up little brat" said Mrs. Price with poison in her words toward me
"Do not talk like that to my son lady" Responded my mother to her in a defensive tone
"After all what we did for you so you pay us Melissa?" said Mr. Price
"Lionel started" was what I said "he was the one that threw the baseball ball in my head yesterday" I said pointing with the finger to the small child that hid from my gaze
"Do not tell lies my son is a good boy" was the sharp response of Mrs. Price
"Do you have any evidence of that young man" said Mr. Price in my direction
To that I closed the mouth because apart from the information of the nurse there were no eyewitnesses that witnessed the attack
"That I believed" said Mr. Price in a complacent tone
"Look Mrs. Reed this matter is grave Lionel is a good student while your son on the other hand .." did not finish the phrase but could be understood by the subtext of that they did not believe me what I said
"Before this I do not have more option than to expel your son from this institution" After the principal said that I saw how the face of my mother paled while smiles of sufficiency formed in Lionel and his parents
"Principal I …" tried to say my mama while she tried to appease the situation
"My decision is definitive Mrs. Reed" was the sharp response of the principal
To that only I stood up and said it's okay mama simply let's go I said while I approached to the door
"I suppose that only we can sue the school" I said with my back to the principal directing me to the door
Before that the frown of the principal deepened while saying "What you want to say young man"
"I only say that after I had an accident of the head the day of yesterday I was expelled in a fraudulent way from the school" I said with a smile in my face
"I imagine that you will not want that the press gives bad publicity to the school right" I said without removing my gaze from the eyes of the principal
"Are you threatening me" Said the principal this time in a tone more grave and deep
"I am informing you" I corrected her while my hand was in the doorknob together with my mother
"Wait" said the principal with a tone slightly anxious in her voice
"What does it seem to you if simply we leave it in a suspension of 3 days" said the principal trying to negotiate
"Detention" was the simple response that I gave her while my hand started to turn the doorknob
"Done" was what the principal said in resigned tone
"But principal" said Mrs. Price in an aggrieved tone
"What happened to your son was a simple accident lady" said the principal trying to appease her
After that followed a back and forth of discussion between the principal and Mr. and Mrs. Price seeing that already they did not need us to me and my mother we opened the door while we directed to the exit
"I cannot believe that you did that" said my mother in my direction with a tone of incredulity while we went out of the school
"I simply made her see that it was not a good idea to expel me mother" I said in her direction while I gave her a smile
She returned me the smile while she asked me "Ready to go?"
"Always" was the only response that I gave her once we were in the street
