A dilapidated barbed wire fence stood on the coast behind the police station. Matthew took a running start and charged up, using his hands and feet to climb over the fence. He jumped down, looked back, and seeing no zombies chasing him, he let out a slight sigh of relief and walked forward along the barbed wire fence and the scenic riverbank.
Not far after walking, he saw a damaged section of the barbed wire fence. In the middle of the fallen fence, a steel pipe nearly a meter long was entangled. Remembering that he had escaped from the police station without even a gun, he quickly walked over, picked up the steel pipe, and placed one foot on the barbed wire, trying to pull the steel pipe out of the entanglement.
Perhaps the prop master had secured it too tightly, as even with Matthew's considerable strength, he couldn't pull it out. He had no choice but to grip one end of the steel pipe with both hands, apply more force with his foot, and amidst a series of ear-splitting scraping sounds, the steel pipe successfully disengaged from the barbed wire and landed in his hand.
Matthew tried swinging it a few times, seemed very satisfied, nodded, and prepared to walk forward again.
"Stop! That's enough!"
Behind a camera, director Zack Snyder's voice came through, "Are the two actors and the zombie actors ready?"
The assistant director immediately replied loudly, "All set!"
Zack Snyder then gave another command, "Camera operators, adjust your positions, get ready to shoot the next take."
Matthew stood still as Zack Snyder had instructed him earlier. Two cameras moved along pre-laid tracks, both remaining to his left. However, one filmed Matthew from the opposite side, while the other was responsible for his frontal shots.
With a command from Zack Snyder, filming quickly resumed.
Clutching the steel pipe, Matthew displayed extreme vigilance, tinged with a hint of fear and nervousness for the unknown, as he walked forward. When he reached a bend in the barbed wire fence, he suddenly stopped, hearing the sound of rapid footsteps approaching.
Matthew took a few quick steps and peered ahead. A man and a woman were running frantically towards him. The man was a middle-aged actor in his forties, and the woman was, of course, Alexandra Daddario.
Behind these two, a large group of extras dressed as zombies followed.
The zombie extras were all flailing their arms and gnashing their teeth, like mad tigers, running incredibly fast.
The two main actors were also moving quickly, as if they were using every ounce of their strength, and as they ran closer, the set suddenly became eerily quiet.
The entire crew seemed to be collectively stunned for a moment.
The sound engineer, responsible for on-set recording, watched the actors running towards them with his mouth slightly agape.
The two female makeup artists clicked their tongues in wonder, their eyes reflecting emotions of envy, jealousy, and resentment.
"Too big... too big..." The person in charge of props on set muttered, "It's just too big..."
Not to mention these people, even Matthew was momentarily lost in thought. Alexandra Daddario, running straight towards him, had a massive, bouncing chest that seemed ready to pop out of her neckline at any moment. That peculiar sight could only be described as magnificent.
"They're both seventeen or eighteen, but Keira doesn't even make an A..." Matthew wondered, "Alexandra Daddario must be at least an E, right? Maybe even an F."
And at that age, it was unlikely a girl would have had surgery; it should be all-natural.
Not just Matthew, even director Zack Snyder was momentarily taken aback. While such actresses weren't unheard of in Hollywood, the visual impact generated by her running so wildly was truly... stunning!
Zack Snyder realized the atmosphere on set was off. He cleared his throat and shouted loudly, "Stop!"
Matthew shook his head slightly, knowing this take would definitely need to be reshot.
Sure enough, Zack Snyder's shout came again, "Reset, we'll start shooting again in five minutes!"
With Zack Snyder's roar, the crew returned to normal. Matthew looked ahead, the extras playing zombies were scattered and walking back. The two actors who had been running in front were both bent over, holding their legs, and breathing heavily.
He first looked at the middle-aged actor in his forties, then his gaze fell on Alexandra Daddario. Perhaps noticing someone watching her, Alexandra Daddario looked up and also looked towards Matthew. Seeing Matthew looking at her, she immediately showed a slightly shy smile.
Matthew nodded gently at her. Alexandra Daddario smiled again and turned to walk back.
Five minutes passed in a flash, and filming quickly resumed.
At director Zack Snyder's command, Matthew returned to the bend in the barbed wire fence. Alexandra Daddario and the male actor ran frantically, followed by a group of extras even crazier than them.
"Switch lenses!" Zack Snyder told the camera assistant operating the camera, "Focus on Alexandra Daddario's chest and shoot a close-up."
The real-time footage from the camera was displayed on the monitor screen in front of him. Zack Snyder felt the image was indeed stunning. In fact, it could be even more stunning if he used high-speed slow motion to film this scene. When played in high-speed slow motion on the big screen, it should be able to stun many viewers, right?
What a pity, what a pity, Sean Daniel didn't agree to him using high-speed slow motion filming.
After finishing this film, once he had accumulated some capital, his next film must be a subject and genre suitable for showcasing his strengths.
He saw in the real-time monitor feed that Matthew charged towards Alexandra Daddario and the other actor, and then he called a halt to the filming.
Next, they were going to shoot the zombie-fighting scenes. He had previously watched Matthew rehearse with the prop team and action director. Matthew's strength was unusually great, and he was holding a real steel pipe. If it hit an extra's head, it wouldn't be fun at all.
The crew had prepared lifelike dummies early on. The dummies' heads and skin were made of realistic resin material, filled with blood bags.
Of course, the first to appear with Matthew were stunt actors disguised as zombies.
"Hurry! Come here!"
Seeing Alexandra Daddario running towards him, Matthew immediately charged forward. He had already realized that the people chasing behind them were somewhat similar to those who had attacked him in the police station: pale skin, rotting bodies... "Help! Help!"
Like all beautiful eye candy, Alexandra Daddario at this moment had only two tasks: one was to continue flaunting her figure, and the other was to scream at the top of her lungs.
Matthew let the two of them pass, then met the zombie charging at the front, kicking him in the chest. The extra playing the zombie fell to the ground perfectly, tumbling like a gourd. Since the run had created a distance of five or six zombies, Matthew was able to deal with them one by one. He used his immense strength to knock down three zombies consecutively.
The fourth zombie charged up, its gaping maw aimed at his left arm.
"Ah!"
Alexandra Daddario was still screaming.
Matthew dodged the zombie, and the steel pipe struck the zombie's body fiercely. The zombie immediately fell to the ground.
But before he could deal with the two weakest female zombies behind him, the zombie he had just struck down got back up.
"What are they?!" Matthew shouted at Alexandra Daddario and the other actor, "I broke his ribs, why can he still get up?!"
"Ah!"
Alexandra Daddario was still diligently performing her role as eye candy.
The middle-aged man said, "I shot them with a gun, but they won't die!"
Several zombies all got up, black, almost congealed blood dripping from their mouths. With the two female zombies who ran up afterwards, Matthew was surrounded.
"Stop!" Zack Snyder shouted loudly, "Switch to dummies!"
The assistant quickly brought a water bottle. Matthew bit the straw and took two big sips. Seeing Alexandra Daddario's chest rising and falling, seemingly uncomfortable, he said to the assistant, "Get Anna a bottle of water."
Soon, the assistant delivered a bottle of water to Alexandra Daddario, saying, "Matthew asked me to give this to you."
Alexandra Daddario twisted open the water bottle, pulled out the nearby straw and inserted it into the bottle, taking two sips. Feeling a little better, she turned to look at Matthew, and seeing him watching her, she smiled and nodded at him.
The crew quickly set up the dummies. Alexandra Daddario returned the water to the assistant, repeatedly adjusting her breathing. Screaming was also hard work.
Filming resumed. Matthew, wielding the steel pipe, smashed the heads of six dummies in various ways. The set was a gruesome scene of brains splattering and blood flying everywhere.
Matthew's face and clothes were also splattered with blood and other substances.
This was definitely a heavy-gore scene.
Matthew also knew that this was one of the selling points of zombie films; violence and gore were inherently important components of commercial movies, especially R-rated ones.
Afterward, the crew entered a short break. Matthew sat on a chair in the temporary rest area. Alexandra Daddario brought a chair and sat next to him.
The two chatted casually for a few moments, then Alexandra Daddario suddenly asked, "Was something wrong with me just now? So many people were staring at me."
Matthew turned to look at her, feeling an urge to ask her what she ate to grow so big, but he held back and subtly hinted, "Most of the crew are men. Why else would so many people be staring at you?"
Alexandra Daddario immediately understood, showing no embarrassment at all. "Oh, so that's what it was."
"By the way, Matthew," she suddenly changed the subject, "I only have my character's script, I haven't seen the full script. Have you?"
Matthew nodded gently, "Yes, I have."
Alexandra Daddario asked, "is the female lead's role significant?"
"Not really." Matthew slowly shook his head, "She can't really be called the female lead; at best, she's a supporting actress. Jessica Alba's screen time isn't that much either."
