"Kael, let her be," I say, my voice muffled against the mattress.
Kaelen immediately lets go of her arms. He gives me a short, obedient nod and resumes his stoic guard stance right beside the bedroom door.
Elena practically hops onto my bed, dropping a pair of wicked-looking daggers right beside my head. "It's not fair, Big Sister!"
"What?" I ask, rolling over and looking at her. I am already exhausted and mentally concerned about a million other things for tomorrow.
"Don't act the fool, Big Sister! I heard you invented something new today called a 'fridge'! You haven't even given me any noodles to taste yet, and you didn't even tell me you made a new thing!" she pouts, crossing her arms over her chest.
Ugh... "Um, sorry, dear, but you see..." I desperately try to deflect. "I even promised Kael noodles, and yet I haven't given him any either. Ask him if you want."
