Chapter 10: The Shadow Protector and the Shi Family Daughter
"Miss, we have to get to the hotel first. That was your father's order."
"Go investigate that boy who just passed by me," Shi Lieya commanded, watching Xiao Yan's retreating back. "Let's go. I will find him later."
As night began to fall, Xiao Yan walked toward the shelters of the city. "Hmm, what a day," he sighed, his face etched with exhaustion. He had spent the day cultivating, but as he walked, he suddenly felt a chilling aura.
"Who is that?" Xiao Yan demanded, his hand moving toward his weapon.
"I am the city's Protector, and you are my prey, blinded intruder!"
"So, you're the City Protector everyone talks about."
The man was speedy; he was a Celestial fighter who had reached the 1st Stage of the Celestial Realm.
"Well, come out of the shadows. I'm ready to defeat you," Xiao Yan challenged.
"A mere Mortal thinks he can defeat me? What a joke."
[Master, warning: This fighter is mighty.]
"No worries, Michael. I can take it."
"I know you are not really blind," the Protector sneered. "You hide your eyes behind that silk because your eyes are undergoing a Codex mutation that usually takes years."
"That is none of your business. As long as my eyes are behind this silk, my senses will improve and I will become more powerful. So let's just battle; I can defeat you with my instincts alone!"
"Hahaha! Boy, you are too funny. I am the Shadow Protector of the Kingdom. I kill intruders and threats."
"Well, today, you won't be able to."
"Arrogant brat! I'll show you!"
The Protector lunged out of nowhere, slashing a curved knife at Xiao Yan. Xiao Yan's reactions were lightning-quick; he drew the Sky Ruler Mjolnir to block the strike.
CLANG!
"You're not bad," the Protector admitted. "You have a heavy weapon and a unique path, but today is your end."
He moved faster than Xiao Yan could track. The fight broke out in the middle of the street, the sound of their steps slashing through the air and their weapons cracking like breaking bones. The Shadow Protector clearly had the upper hand. Using a shadow skill, he sent Xiao Yan flying across the road.
"He really is too powerful," Xiao Yan gasped, coughing. "But I won't give up!"
He stood up and channeled his thunder powers, trying to end it with a single strike, but the Shadow Protector's speed was too high. He avoided the lightning easily and grabbed Xiao Yan by the neck.
"Where is your arrogance now, boy?"
"I'm not down yet!" Xiao Yan used his Codex Eyes to launch a Soul Attack, trying to create an opening to escape, but the Shadow Protector struck back instantly with a shadow skill that slammed him into the ground.
[Master, can you hold on? Do you want me to activate the Berserk State of Balance?]
"No, I'm alright. Let me finish this," Xiao Yan muttered, though his Qi was nearly drained.
"Now, die!" the Protector groaned, raising his blade.
"STOP!"
Shi Lieya appeared suddenly. "What is all this commotion?"
"I am just doing my duty, Miss Shi," the Protector said, bowing his head slightly.
"Oh, okay." As she was about to turn away, she caught a glimpse of Xiao Yan's face. "Wait... I have finally found you!"
She ran to Xiao Yan and hugged him tightly.
"Miss... I don't remember meeting you," Xiao Yan stammered, completely caught off guard.
"Oh, I saw you this morning! By the way, what happened here?"
"We were just fighting a little," Xiao Yan said. "Don't worry, you can go back."
"Is that so... Shadow Protector?" Lieya turned to the man, her eyes flashing with anger. (This brat's background is not simple. Why is Miss Shi protecting him?) The Shadow Protector thought nervously.
"You, Shadow Protector! You have hurt my friend. What do you have to say for yourself?"
"The guards reported him as an intruder," the Protector stammered. "It was a mistake. It won't happen again, I assure you."
"Well... you're Xiao Yan, right? I'm Shi Lieya."
"Oh, okay. Nice to meet you."
"You don't mind having friends, do you?"
"No, I don't. Why?"
"Because from now on, you are my friend!" she declared happily. (What a handsome and muscular guy... I want him so bad!)
"Is that how people make friends these days?" Xiao Yan whispered, feeling completely confused. (System, please help! I've bumped into another girl!)
[Master, that is your problem, not mine. I thought you were talented when it comes to girls.]
(Gosh, System, I need your help!)
"So, Xiao Yan, come with me!" Shi Lieya said. Before he could say no, she grabbed his hand and pulled him away.
"Well, I guess my charm is just too great," Xiao Yan thought as he was dragged along. "But will this one act dominantly like Jinyao?"
[Master, I feel like she is even more dominant than Jinyao.]
"I feel it too."
Jinyao, who had heard the fight outside, stepped out of her hotel just in time to see Shi Lieya holding Xiao Yan's hand.
"Xiao Yan? And Shi Lieya? What are you two doing together?"
