Chapter 80 - Chapter 80: Including Me?

The Bedroom

Maria Hill slowly opened her eyes.

The bright ceiling above her seemed to deliver a single message—

She…

was still alive…

She lifted the soft, fluffy down quilt—and her cheeks instantly flushed with shame and anger.

The clothes she was wearing now—

They had been changed.

Inside and out.

It was him.

That man.

What had he done to her?

Maria Hill couldn't even bear to imagine what that despicable man might have done while she was unconscious!

"That was my clothes, idiot…"

"I was going to throw them away anyway—consider it a gift."

A mocking voice rang out from the sofa in the bedroom.

It was Android Android 18.

She was an artificial lifeform—unlike humans, she didn't need to sleep every day.

So she had stayed behind.

To "watch over" the woman in front of her—Maria Hill.

"Why… didn't you kill me?"

Hill asked cautiously.

Her body felt fine. There were no strange sensations, no lingering traces.

She hadn't been touched…

Or perhaps the other party had simply handled things too perfectly.

"Someone wants you alive. So you live."

Android 18 rolled her eyes irritably.

"Heh… an interrogation, is it?"

"Where is Renjie? I want to see him—now!"

As a trained agent, Hill understood her current situation.

"The boss is asleep. He left me here to protect you."

"Yes—protect. Not supervise."

"In this villa, aside from the boss, everyone wants you dead."

"Including me."

"If you step outside this bedroom, you'll be torn to pieces."

Android 18 sneered as she explained.

This foolish woman had done something absolutely unforgivable.

Yet Renjie had not killed her.

He had even injected her with a gene enhancement serum worth 'one billion dollars' on the market.

Her life was nothing less than Renjie's mercy.

"What do you… want from me?"

Hill asked warily.

The man they were dealing with was Renjie.

One could never afford to lower their guard around him.

She shifted her gaze toward the corridor.

Sure enough—shadows were moving outside.

"Tch… don't flatter yourself."

"You're no different from a stray cat or dog picked up on the roadside."

Android 18 replied with disdain.

She then continued flipping through her magazine, killing time.

"Can I make a phone call?"

Hill's face reddened slightly. She wanted to reach the outside world—escape this place.

"Do you think you have a choice?"

Android 18 sneered.

"I am the supreme commander of the Helicarrier, and a Level 9 agent of S.H.I.E.L.D!"

"Do you know what my disappearance means?!"

Hill finally revealed her identity.

But Android 18 rejected it without hesitation.

"Our boss can replace your director himself. Who do you think you are?"

"If you're bored, watch some TV."

"Say one more word—and I'll rip out your tongue."

With that threat, Android 18 grabbed her magazine and walked out.

She had said all she needed to say.

What happened next… was this woman's choice.

After Android 18 left, Hill felt the hidden gazes intensify.

A red dot even locked onto her left chest—

There was a sniper outside.

Hill gave up resisting.

Outside was hell.

Androids.

Superhumans.

Assassins.

Agents.

Everyone wanted her dead.

Only this bedroom—

was the safest place on Earth.

She picked up the remote from the nightstand and turned on the wall-mounted TV.

Since she couldn't leave…

She would at least watch something, and endure this long night.

The evening news—

was all about Renjie.

On-screen was a thirteen-year-old girl with congenital heart disease.

One week ago, she had received an implant of Medical Nanobots.

Now her illness was cured.

She was running and laughing like any other child.

Her parents held her as they cried with gratitude before the cameras.

It was Renjie's scientific miracle that saved their family.

Hill frowned and switched channels.

A disaster zone appeared.

The area had just been struck by a violent storm.

Rescue suits marked "Hammer Industries" were working with firefighters to save the trapped.

These armors possessed terrifying strength—easily lifting tons of steel.

Rescue operations had never been this efficient.

The rescued civilians cheered their heroes.

Children gathered around the rescue suits, singing praises to their "Savior—Renjie."

Still Renjie.

Hill kept switching channels, trying to find something different.

This was satellite television—nearly every country's news could be accessed.

....

A female reporter was covering a newly built energy facility.

This new energy source was safer than nuclear power—completely pollution-free.

No matter the conditions, it could provide stable electricity.

She interviewed a man who had completely changed—

Ivan Vanko.

The former avenger, now in a suit, full of vitality.

This energy technology would soon enter the automotive market.

Factories were already being jointly built with local governments.

New energy…

Maria Hill froze.

She suddenly remembered her tragic past.

The day she was born, a once-in-a-century blizzard struck.

The temperature dropped to –44°C.

The hospital's power failed.

Her mother froze to death.

Her father blamed her.

And never forgave her.

That was why she became cold.

Detached.

The person she was today.

If…

This technology had existed decades earlier—

Perhaps such a tragedy would never have happened.

Hill sighed softly.

She changed channels again.

The Middle East.

Coalition forces were withdrawing from the battlefield.

The reporter cried as she spoke.

Her nation had finally welcomed long-awaited peace.

People held up portraits of Renjie, dancing and singing outside restricted zones.

With new energy gradually replacing oil and strategic resources—

The root of conflict was being removed.

World peace was no longer a dream.

Hill sat there in a daze.

Again—Renjie.

This man's influence had changed the entire world.

If Renjie were truly a destroyer—

Then how could anyone explain what she was seeing?

Were all of these lies?

Impossible.

No one

could deceive the entire world.

Maria Hill curled her legs up on the bed and fell into deep thought.

She began to doubt Nick Fury's words

Even his true intentions.

Clearly…

She had judged too quickly.

Perhaps

That young man named Renjie…

Was truly this world's Savior.
