Raven finally stops on a cliff with a wide open clearing.
Destroyed trees.
Rock craters.
Swords stabbed into the ground.
This place has seen death.
Raven:
"Welcome to the Outer Grounds.
If you survive here⊠you can survive anywhere."
Aryx gulps, his heart pounding.

Raven drops a wooden sword at Aryx's feet.

"Pick it up."

"I killed a demon yesterdayâ"
Raven slams his sword against Aryx's wooden blade.
The shock throws Aryx to the ground.
Raven doesn't stop.

"You survived because of luck.
Not skill.
Not strength."
He points his blade at Aryx's throat.
"If you fight like that againâŠ
you'll die before sunset."
Aryx lowers his eyes.
The words cut deeper than the sword.

Raven walks behind Aryx.

"Inhale."
Aryx breathes in.
Raven:

Again.
Until Aryx's chest burns.
Aryx:
"I⊠I'm tryingâ"
Raven:
"Trying means nothing here.
Breath is power.
Breath is life.
Breath is your blade."
He shouts:
"AGAIN."
Aryx forces the air into his lungs.
Slow⊠deep⊠sharp.
Suddenlyâ
Something clicks.
His lungs feel wider.
His heartbeat steadier.
His shoulders stronger.
White mist escapes his mouth.
Raven pauses for the first time.
Raven:

That's Soulbreath Level 1."
Aryx feels a spark of pride.

Because Raven throws another wooden sword at him.
