Chapter 5 - First Encounter

The cave waited in silence. Its mouth yawned wide against the jagged cliffs at the outskirts of the city, shadows pooling like ink inside. To anyone else, it was just a gaping void. To Rin, it was a puzzle a living system begging to be understood.

He adjusted the strap of his pack and let the Life System guide him.

[Nearby Dungeon Detected – Low Threat]

The interface pulsed faintly, highlighting crawling monsters lurking within. But something else glimmered in the menu Dungeon Entry: Tutorial Combat Activated.

Rin's pulse quickened. He had observed monsters from a distance, analyzed weak points, and evaded attacks. Now, the system demanded he step inside.

He took a cautious step forward. The air inside the cave was cool, damp, and smelled faintly of ozone like electricity had danced along the rocks. Every footfall echoed, carrying a sense of exposure.

Then movement.

A crawler skittered from a shadowed alcove. Its metallic carapace gleamed, and its tiny eyes reflected Rin's silhouette.

[Threat Level: Low – Engage Tutorial]

The system provided a series of prompts:

[Observe Monster Movement]

[Identify Weak Points]

[Evade and Attack Strategically]

Rin's hands tightened around a metal rod he had scavenged from the construction site. The crawler lunged. Its tiny claws clanged against the stone floor.

He rolled sideways. [Evasion – Active] The system pulsed, guiding his movement perfectly. He swung the rod, targeting the red-highlighted joint of the crawler's legs.

The creature collapsed, stunned. Numbers and symbols floated briefly above it, indicating critical damage.

Rin exhaled. This wasn't luck it was calculation. Observation. Prediction. Precision.

[Skill Progression – Observation Mastery +1]

Another skimmer lizard a bit larger, more agile pounced from the side corridor. Rin adjusted instantly, noting the creature's trajectory. [Predict Movement – Passive Skill Activated]

He feinted left, then struck the skimmer's abdomen where the system highlighted its weak spot. Sparks flew as the metallic shell cracked. The creature screeched and fled deeper into the cave.

The Life System pulsed warmly, approving.

[Skill Unlocked – Trap Manipulation (Active)]

A prompt blinked: "Use environment to your advantage." Rin's eyes scanned the cave. Stalactites hung low. Loose boulders littered the ground. He prodded one with his rod, causing a small rockslide that blocked the crawler's path.

The system guided him again, reinforcing strategy over brute force. He realized: survival wasn't about power it was about understanding the rules.

Minutes passed. Every creature he encountered followed the same predictable patterns, their weaknesses highlighted by the system. Rin moved like a shadow rolling, striking, trapping, observing. By the time he exited the cave, his clothes were scuffed, and his arms ached, but he was victorious.

Outside, the sun gleamed on the city skyline. Rin paused, breathing heavily. He had entered a dungeon for the first time and survived.

[Life System Update – Tutorial Complete]

Observation: Level Up

Evasion: Level Up

Trap Manipulation: Acquired

Rin smiled faintly. He had only scratched the surface, yet the system had already begun shaping him into something… more than human.

Looking toward the horizon, more caves glimmered faintly. Dungeons waited, monsters waited, and the Life System waited for him to grow stronger.

Rin's eyes hardened. He would master this world. Step by step, cave by cave.

And he would not merely survive. He would thrive.
