"Isabel…"
My name dragged down his throat in slow motion while his lips grazed my ear. Sensation swept through me, and breathing suddenly felt impossible.
"What are you doing?" My voice was a rasped breath. Across the room, I caught gazes sweeping our way. They were likely wondering who this mysterious woman was, dancing so closely with the King.

He turned me around, his dark eyes pinning me in place. His narrowed gaze told me more than he could say; he didn't want me addressing him by his title.
"Trying to go against my words, hmm?" he whispered. He leaned closer until his breath brushed my mouth. "Do you want to know what happens to disobedient lambs?"
My hands gripped his shoulders. Part of me wanted to pull him closer until his lips finally touched mine, but we were in a room full of prying eyes ready to carry a scandal to the ends of the earth.
"Tell me," he said, ignoring the murmurs from the crowd. "Why have you come, especially in disguise?"
