Four years have passed since the revelation of my knowledge, and much has changed.
My mother was the first to unlock her magic. It took her a full year of meditation to succeed. With one more person choosing not to break the barrier, I gathered more data for my theory—and when my father unlocked his magic just three months later, I became ninety-nine percent certain that I was right.
First: after a few months, my parents began to show a physical rejuvenation that became difficult to ignore.
Second: both of their physical abilities have reached another level—my father now carries oak logs that would normally require three men to lift.
My mother quickly became interested in potions. When I showed her my methods and theories, she accepted everything with such ease that I began to wonder whether she might also carry memories of another world.
I, the inventor, was completely left in the dust—seventy percent of all potion recipes were discovered by her.
My father, on the other hand, became fascinated with enchantments. Now all of his tools are enchanted, although at least he still hasn't surpassed me.
With my father's help, we created a second base, hidden deep within the Spine.
Using wagons that my father and I enchanted with runes for levitation and propulsion, we were able to travel far into the forest. At first I considered creating flying brooms, but that would require protective and stabilization runes during flight, which would greatly increase mana consumption.
When we returned to our new base, I think we may have gone a little overboard—because when we showed it to my mother, she could hardly believe it.
We had practically built a village. A runic forge, multiple greenhouses for my mother's herbs, a plaza—everything integrated with the environment. We did not cut down a single tree.
What left her completely speechless, however, was a small castle. It is not very tall, reaching only halfway up the surrounding trees—but considering that trees in this part of the Spine reach heights of one to two hundred meters, that still says a lot.
Inside this castle is the new library, now covering one hundred square meters, with three floors filled with shelves. All that remains now are the books.
Over these years I continued expanding my runic repertoire, managing to create runes for the concepts of gravity and space, as well as for certain elements such as hydrogen and barium.
The elemental runes were easy—just requiring a sample and letting the slow process continue—but gravity and space were difficult. I had to use images, transmit full theoretical concepts… but with perseverance I succeeded. I do not even want to imagine what creating a rune for time would entail.
During the year my parents were unlocking their magic, I learned some news that reminded me once again to pay close attention to the world.
Garrow's son, Roran, was born.
Now I have little time left before Brom arrives in Carvahall.
I do not know how he will react to us—my fear is that he might immediately turn hostile.
But I also do not want him to try to drag us into the Varden. As just as their cause may be, I cannot trust placing my life—and my parents' lives—into their hands. There is also the matter of the Twins.
For all these reasons, I will do everything I can to avoid that outcome.
