How to allocate stats scientifically—that was the question.
Real life wasn't a game where you could stack a couple multipliers and call it a day. Sometimes the frailty of the human body forced you to prioritize survival.
Su Ming reviewed his talents:
Mind's Eye (Excellent): Your martial talent improves; you gain weapon-skill proficiency faster.
Analysis (Excellent): Your observation improves; you analyze information more effectively.
Honkai Energy Resistance (Excellent): You resist minor Honkai corrosion and can harness Honkai energy.
All three were solid—especially Analysis. It wasn't just for combat; it would help in daily life and work.
Su Ming still hadn't given up on returning to his peaceful daily life.
As for stat allocation…
Given the circumstances, draw rewards first.
The system had two gacha tiers:
Standard: 100 Classic/Degenerate Points per ten-pull
Premium: 1000 points per ten-pull
With 300 Classic Points in hand, Su Ming decided to do three standard ten-pulls. He urgently needed immediate combat power—hoarding would slow his growth.
"System. Draw."
A familiar sky-blue background and streaking meteors appeared. Su Ming nearly lost it.
Wait. You're really doing this?
Unfortunately, the standard draw had no purple-rarity guarantee. In a pile of white trash, Su Ming found only one green item.
Anti-Corrosion Vial (Excellent):
Can hold a small dose of anti-Honkai corrosion medicine. Slightly suppresses Honkai corrosion. Usable only inside instances. Refills on each reset.
A dungeon "anti-poison potion." Useful enough—especially since minor resistance wouldn't fully protect him in a collapsed Nagazora.
As for the pile of white junk—
Su Ming tossed it away in disgust.
What am I supposed to do with this?
"I've got talents and anti-corrosion measures. Fine—System, allocate points."

[Normal human stat cap is 10. Player possesses Honkai Energy Resistance. Injecting Honkai energy…]
[System tip: Honkai energy modifies the body, breaking limits and granting attribute bonuses.]
Wait—if the human cap is 10, why is my stamina 18?
Su Ming noticed, but didn't bother thinking too hard. This was the Honkai world. It wasn't strange if he'd come into contact with Honkai energy somehow.
But—
"Why is my beyond-human Strength still labeled 'couldn't even subdue a zombie girl'?"
Su Ming challenged the system.
The system responded by showing the scythe zombie's stats.
Scythe Zombie
Strength: 15
Constitution: 10
Stamina: 15
Intelligence: 2
Spirit: 2
Agility: 15
Description: The weakest zombie. Still stronger than you.
Su Ming shut up.
So my base stats are worse than a zombie's? My Intelligence is higher, sure, but it's not like I can debate a zombie.
At least my stamina is higher. If I run, maybe I can outlast it.
That was his coping strategy.
"System. Enter instance again."
[Instance loading…]
The world spun.
He returned to the same starting area—confidence surging. Stats might still be worse, but his brain was better.
Following the hallway near the break room, Su Ming found the scythe zombie that had previously taken his head.
Its back was turned. Perfect.
He drew his long blade, raised it high, and swung down with full force—no hesitation.
The sharp whistle of air betrayed him.
The zombie's keen senses reacted instantly. Without even turning, it swung its scythe back; the hook blocked his blade.
Clang!
The shock numbed Su Ming's hands, but with Honkai enhancement his strength held, and the sword didn't fly away.
The ambush failed. Su Ming retreated a step, annoyed.
He immediately realized he'd relied too much on training "forms." Even for an ambush, he'd chosen a high-overhead stance designed for maximum power—when a thrust would've been quieter and faster.
He turned the lesson into experience on the spot and adopted a middle guard—balanced offense and defense—waiting for the enemy to commit. The zombie had reach advantage with a polearm; reckless attacks would get him killed.
The mindless zombie predictably attacked first, sweeping horizontally.
Now!
Su Ming's eyes sharpened. If his strength had been insufficient, he'd have to retreat. But now that he could contest it, he could step in.
He advanced and countered—pressing his blade against the scythe shaft, stopping the strike and sliding his edge along the handle to close distance, exploiting the short-weapon advantage up close.
The zombie, forced to retreat, tried to hook the scythe back to strike Su Ming from behind.
Too late.
After raising Agility, Su Ming slid forward again, compressing the zombie's space and cutting off its leverage. He broke contact from the shaft and rode the momentum into a decisive slash.
A diagonal cut—aimed at throat and chest.
The zombie tried to dodge but refused to abandon its weapon.
It couldn't.
Slash.
His blade carved through. Su Ming pivoted to avoid the returning hook.
Black blood burst from the wound. With Strength beyond half the human limit, the heavy strike split half the zombie's body—thankfully, it wasn't human anymore, so there was no forbidden gore.
Su Ming hissed.
He didn't have time to celebrate. He stumbled, clutching his waist. A cut had opened there—scythe edge.
He'd calculated the hook wouldn't reach his left side, but the curve of the blade reached his right first. Even with the pivot, he still got clipped.
"Only the first one and I'm already struggling. Makes sense. I fought too aggressively because death doesn't matter here."
That was the issue with the human body: even a waist cut disrupted muscle and movement, making it hard to generate force.
Because he wasn't afraid of dying in an instance, Su Ming had fought with reckless intensity—he wanted to feel the edge of life and death and sharpen his technique.
Rip.
He tore fabric, wrapped a crude bandage around his waist, and injected the anti-corrosion medicine.
"Alright. Let's see if I can kill one more."
Su Ming smiled—bloodthirsty.
Maybe… he actually liked fighting?
