"I will leave now."
That was the most reasonable thing to do right now. The longer I hesitated, the more danger spelled out for me. I just needed to trust Ruby to handle the rest for me for now.
Find a way to reach Escanor before he reached the Dark Elves and do something foolish.
But my shoulders lowered. "I still don't like this."
Ruby stepped closer, after lowering Elon back to the floor carefully when he stopped sobbing. "You don't have to like it," he said quietly.
I raised a brow at his words. What did he mean that I didn't have to like it? Was that the most comforting he could be?
He gently pushed some strands of hair behind my ears. "You only need to return before I do, Mistress."
My eyes widened slightly. "Hmm?" I had been distracted after he touched my face that I didn't understand what that meant. "What do you—"
