Esme's POV
My body nearly gave out. I kept on running, trying not to increase my pace, or I'd jeopardize everything. I couldn't do more than this.
"I should shift."
"Not now. You'd break."
I would also break if anything happened to my uncle. "I will try. Just get ready—"
"Mistress! Permission to send you back!" It was a child's voice. I couldn't see him, but I sensed familiar mana around me. It must be connected to those brothers, so I slowed down, resting by a tree.
"Please, yes!"
"Granted!"
I closed my eyes, and the scent of blood hit me first. I was only steps away from our door. This was too close. I ran into the house and met Lena inside.
"Esme! You're back…" Lena stared at the entrance. "I just checked the road for you now though." She pulled me toward my uncle's room.
I waited by the door, careful not to wake him when I realized he was asleep. I handed the cure to Lena's mother. "I found it on the rogues. Confirm, please."
