Chapter 5 - CHAPTER:5 THE FUTURE WIFE

HER POV

I stand at the bus stop, checking the road again and again.

"Ugh… seriously? Whenever I need to reach the hospital early, the bus never comes," I mutter to myself.

I scroll through my phone impatiently.

After some time, a bus finally arrives—but it's already packed.

"Nooo… it's so crowded," I groan.

"But if I wait for another bus, I'll be late."

With a sigh, I step inside.

Big mistake.

The bus is so crowded that everyone's bodies are pressed against each other. I didn't even get time to tie my hair properly today, and now it feels like I haven't washed it in days.

Thank God Alex isn't with me, I think.

What would he think? "Ew, my girlfriend looks like this?"

I shake my head, talking to myself and smiling slightly at my own thoughts.

"Madam? Oh madam?"

Someone shakes me gently. I snap out of my thoughts and look up.

"Aren't you getting down? This is the last stop," the bus driver says.

I look around and spot the hospital.

"Oh—yes! I need to get down. I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention."

I rush out of the bus and start running toward the hospital.

"Today is just bad," I mutter.

"Run, Riya, run!"

I finally reach the hospital, slightly breathless.

As I enter, I notice someone—someone I've never seen before.

For a moment, something feels… off.

I ignore it and walk straight to my cabin, sitting down heavily on my chair. I take a deep breath.

"I am sooo fucking tired," I whisper.

I close my eyes for a few seconds.

"Okay. Enough. Time to work. Let's go."

I step out of my cabin. The moment I open the door, a nurse approaches me with a file.

"Mmm… this patient has been recovering for quite a while. Who was handling this case?" I ask.

"Dr.guppta," the nurse replies.

I nod. "Alright. Keep monitoring the patient. I'll come and check shortly."

She nods and leaves.

I walk into the waiting room—and smile instantly.

"Alex!"

I hug him tightly. "You're here!"

"Yes," he smiles back. "I'm here, my love."

"So," I ask teasingly, "what work brought you to my ospital today?" I laugh softly.

He hesitates.

"Riya… I need to go to my hometown," he says. "It's important."

My smile fades.

"What? What kind of urgent work is so important that you have to leave suddenly?" I ask, looking at him.

Before he can answer—

"Ma'am, it's an emergency," a nurse says urgently.

I turn to Alex. "We'll talk later."

As I turn to leave, my eyes almost meet someone else's—

Almost.

My heart skips, but I shake my head and rush toward the emergency room.

"Prepare everything," I say firmly.

We begin the operation.

Time passes.

By 6:00 PM, it's over.

Successful.

Everyone is relieved.

I smile at the patient. "Take care of yourself, okay?"

She nods.

I leave the room and collapse into my chair in my cabin.

"Aaah, mummaa… I'm so tired today," I groan.

"I just want to go home."

I glance at the wall clock and smile.

6:12 PM.

"Mmm… 6:12 PM. That means it's time to go home," I whisper happily.

"Bye-bye, dear hospital. We'll meet again tomorrow."

I grab my bag and exit through the same door.

I take out my phone to book a cab—but the moment I look up, I feel it.

Like someone is watching me.

I look around.

Nothing.

Just as my cab arrives, I pause and look around again.

Did I really see someone… or was it just my imagination?

"I think I'm just too tired," I mutter.

I sit inside the cab. "Let's go."

I pay the driver, and when we reach my building, I hesitate again. I look around carefully.

Nothing.

I take a deep breath.

"It's nothing, Riya. You're just exhausted."

I take out my keys and enter the building.

When I reach the second floor, I unlock my door, turn on the lights, and collapse onto the sofa.

"Aaaah… thank God. Today is finally over."

I close my eyes for a moment.

Then Alex's words return to my mind.

I need to go to my hometown.

I open my eyes and grab my phone, calling him.

The number you are trying to call is switched off.

I frown.

"Why did he suddenly need to go to his hometown?" I whisper.

"Is he hiding something from me?"

I shake my head immediately.

"No. Riya, stop it. You're just overthinking. He must have some work."

I lean back, closing my eyes again.

I really am too tired, I tell myself.

But deep down.

Something doesn't feel right.I should sleep.

That's what I tell myself.

I walk into my room, collapse onto the bed, and close my eyes—but sleep refuses to come.

Alex's face keeps flashing in my mind. His smile. His words. His silence.

My phone suddenly starts ringing.

I open my eyes and glance at the screen.

Unknown Number.

My heart skips.

Who is it?

Alex… or someone else?

I hesitate for a second, then answer the call.

"Hello?" I say softly.

There's a brief pause on the other side.

Then a voice comes through—low, calm, almost amused.

"Hello, dear future wife."

My body freezes.

My fingers tighten around the phone.

That voice… it doesn't sound like Alex.

A chill runs down my spine.

"Who are you?" I whisper.

A soft chuckle follows.

"Relax, Riya… I've been watching you for a long time."

My breath catches.

The line stays open.

And for the first time that night, I realize—

I'm not alone. The call is end HELLO?? HELLO??? WHO ARE YOU?????

"Was that Alex?

No… no, it can't be him.

He knows I get scared. He knows I'm alone at night.

He would never joke like that."

My hands slide into my hair, gripping it hard as fear crawls under my skin.

Tears spill before I can stop them.

"No… why would he say he's been watching me for a long time?

What is happening to my life?

Oh God… what's wrong with me?

What do I do… what do I do…"

I force myself to breathe and call the number back.

Switched off.

My heart drops.

With trembling fingers, I open my contacts and dial my school friend's number.

It's late. Midnight.

Ring.

Ring.

Ring.

"Hello?" she answers, half-asleep.

"H-hello…" My voice breaks, and I start crying.

"Hey—what happened? Why are you crying, baby? Talk to me."

"I… I don't know what's going on in my life. I'm so confused.

I'm really scared. I don't understand anything anymore.

What should I do?"

"Okay, okay—listen to me," she says gently.

"We'll meet tomorrow and talk properly, alright? Stop crying now."

Then her tone hardens.

"And if Alex has done anything—he's dead. I'm telling you already.

You know I never liked that guy."

A small laugh escapes me despite everything.

She always knows how to calm me down.

"Yeah… we'll meet tomorrow. Same place, okay?"

"Okay. Good night, baby. I love you."

"I love you too," I whisper.

I end the call—but the silence in my room feels heavier than before.

And somehow…

I know this fear isn't going to leave me that easily.

What do you think—who made that call?

Did Alex really leave because of some urgent work,

or was that just an excuse?

Is this all part of Rishabh's dangerous game,

or is Alex hiding a dark secret from Riya?
