Chapter 7 - Uninvited Guest I

Keenan Colburn is the son of Victoria Colburn, the oldest among the six children of Senior Mrs. Colburn. Lucian being the last, had witnessed Keenan's birth, despite being so young.

Keenan on the other hand, had just finished high school and was 18 years of age.

In most countries, he was still considered a teenager, and not an adult.

Brianna knew the absurdity of it, but there was nothing she could do about it. Besides, the contract will be expiring in a year and six months.

Her concern wasn't even about marrying Keenan, it was the main reason of the contract. Giving the Colburn's her bloodline.

That was the problem. Her previous childbirth came with complications resulting to losing her womb in order to save her twins. The irony of their death.

She never even got the chance to hold them or see them before Lucian had them cremated. He hadn't asked. He hadn't waited for her to wake from the anesthesia. He had simply turned her children into ash while she was still bleeding for them.

Those ashes were the only thing she had left. And Lucian had treated them like trash... Brianna closed her eyes against the bitter memory.

"You know, when I told Keenan about it, he seemed more okay with it than I had thought."

Brianna frowned a little. Of course he'd be okay with it. Keenan was a boy who had spent the last three years staring at her a second too long at family dinners.

She remembered those "puppy dog eyes" filled with a longing that was far too heavy for a teenager.

The car pulled up in front of the villa. Making Brianna momentarily looked out the window, then back in. "I'll think about it."

"There's nothing to think about. I know you wouldn't pick giving the family 50% of your assets over being paid half a billion by the end of the contract, would you?"

Brianna didn't care about whatever she got from them. She was well off, financially. Still, giving them 50% of her hard-earned money felt like a second robbery.

Besides, did the contract really stand if her husband was dead?

"Lucian is dead. So the contract is nulled."

"The contract didn't specifically state Lucian Colburn. It could be any Colburn."

Brianna closed her eyes and cussed her mother in-law.

"I guess it's a yes, then."

The driver opened the car door for Brianna, waiting patiently for her to come down.

By the time Brianna went inside, the sight of the person in her living room made her tensed.

Bobbie Sue sat comfortably on the couch, sipping from a tea cup. The moment she saw Brianna, she motioned her to come sit.

Brianna had a confused look on her face when she sat down. "What are you doing here, Mom? You didn't call like you used to."

"I did call, Brianna! You just didn't pick up. I was worried," Bobbie Sue pouted, though her eyes were busy inventorying the expensive vases in the room.

"I thought you had forgotten about us."

Brianna looked away. "I was busy."

"Well, clearly! You should have seen Reyna's twins yesterday. It was their third birthday. Absolute chaos, but so precious."

Before Brianna could look away, Bobbie Sue thrust her phone into Brianna's face.

"Look at this one, Bri-Bri."
