"Detective San Akicita , we found this by zir chambers and from the looks of it ; ze was writing when ze was attacked " said the detective's assistant
"Handest it to me " Akicita ordered as she spread out her red hands exposing her blackened palms , " It is funny how the monarch's last writing was the name of his brother ( silence as Akicita smiled from canine ti canine ) first interrogation on the first day , what a lucky week to be on duty , set sail for the dark continent , find a crew to lead us to Geonas Stanlin and Long ... live...King Kafisa the second " she said as she waltzed out the door but in more of a catwalk ladyboss manner .
"She doth know that we are not welcome anywhere near that land and they have judicial right to fire their arms at will if we do , doesn't she ? " asked the eromenos
" Cares she not , hast thee not learnt all that thee can whilst with me ? " asked Bernafsudin , the assistant to Akicita " Go prepare the ship Thabani, you had her " he added as he turned his back
"Ok , sir " replied Thabani Ben Odokku , the eromenos , as he exited the room , he was stopped by Bernafsudin
"Thou knowest that i love thou " Bernafsudin said only to be scoffed at by Thabani who couldn't care any less
Boarding the ship
"Bernafsudin , i just can't comprehend and wrap around my brain how a brother can kill his fellow sibling , this doesn't feel right , what if we are being led astray intentionally so that the murderer can get time to wipe away any traces left ? " asked Akicita
"And what if that that we founden was the truth and we art on the right track ? ; i wonder who it could hurt , finding the killer won't bring back the crown princes dad " Bernafsudin said as he left in order to climb abord the ship .
Akicita : ( in thought ) That is wierd , why would he deliberately state that this investigation is a waste of time , wasn't he the king's right wing man ? There must be something that he is hiding from me , i should probably seek some more information , what if he really is the first suspect and after all i am on the right track ?
"Don't bother (Akicita startled ) thinking about it miss , when he responds like that it is normally because he feels guilty and incompetent " said Thabani as he carried the luggage that belonged to Bernafsudin
"Tell me Thabani , the wert a royal eromenos before the king gifted you to Bernafsudin ,as according to thy limited judgement , how was their relationship ?" Akicita asked
Thabani : (in thought ) why is she asking all of this about Bernafsudin , if i respond wrongly , i could probably find myself back at the palace forced to serve a prince that i grew up bestfriends with ... , i already served his father and i did everything in my power to escape that but if i do i still might end up under my cousin's legislation ...
"He was with me the night the king vanished without a trace , i was giving him my services- those that are due of my duty , however ; the relationship between the king and his brother has always been bumpy ; as a matter of fact , legend has it :
One day way before King Kafisa was even recognised as destined to lead the sons of man , he lived with his befallen mother of an illness unable to treat yet as fatal as one could imagine with a possibility of destroying a whole human body within the course of three days if not met with proper treatment , Geonas was handed the task of finding the only human capable of healing their mother being that your highness was bound to a bed and a wheelchair and if one is to welly judge his highness wasn't in the best conditions to carry out his duty as oldest child ; three weeks of watching his mother slowly die and knowing that there wasn't a thing in his power that he could do , passed and his brother arrived but with Grootslang and two angels , it was known but still a mystery though that Grootslang had chosen him to inherit her magic. His highness later discovered that his brother was chosen to inherit her power , he confronted the demi-titan about her choice and she claimed that if he alone was to inherit her "all" , he would become her newbody therefore the new grootslang and that is how her immortality worked , she said that it was a mistake she made once and refuses to take part in again , her lifespan is two centuries and the only reason she's still alive is because she made that error with the son of Smit , Marq when he took down Smit through Betrayal and now 200AS she has reached once again the end of her life and she had to live it in guilt , "How can one live and doeth thy work if on one's conscience is a murderof someone innocent at heart ; my job is to judge but i can't judge the guilty when i too... I am one of them ,that is hypocritical and virtue-less " she said , his highness so filled with rage pardoned her out of the humanity he bears in his heart , he led them to his mother only for the two angels to fail , she wanted to die but his higness needed her alive and so he tried forcing his brother to force them but his brother had been brainwashed , he had forgotten about the value of family in their world , his highness then attacked at the expense of Grootslang's life and since then , his higness and his brother have never forgiven eachother since then . It is not credible to prefer a monster to his people but to Geonas ,his brother Grootslang was one of his many motherfigures . Since then, Geonas promissed to heed revenge for the murder of Grootslang and the two angels stayed to assure the safety of Kafisa I
And so the story goes , Kafisa went on to marry Shiane of the northern lands , one the richest families in the whole region and imposed himself as representative to his people ,adopted me then later on got coronated as the first mornarchy and stable system or in other terms the most organized political system the sons of man ever had " Thabani said as he walked away
Akicita : ( in thought ) That was quite the introduction to this land , i know my people were of recently welcomed in it but that explains everything ; all those ditches and loose ends to the stories and rumours my people whisper now have been filled firmly . Based on my findings , well that that i was told , it seems the king - may he rest in peace , was not as invincible as believed , he had to marry his way into power for him to finally have that many peasants under his thumb - all those souls that mistook him for a saviour ; the dispute between him and his brother still feels lacking , i need more clarification , i need something on which i can base my facts , i need a way , i need a miracle - what happened to his highness ?
The ship horn blew and it was high time Akicita moved forward so as to board the ship , if not , she was probably bound to miss her only chance to meet Geonas for questioning . She got on her feet with a migraine slowly feeding on her head , for an angel she seemed not to be divinely blessed with the capability to live a carefree life , she was able to get stressed out and at a point even fall ill , while on the ship , she ran across Bernafsudin .
" What troubles you detective , for a young lady you seem a tad bit like you are losing your mental streak , is it because you believe that "only" thou canst fly your way over the entire ocean just enough to get thee to the other side of the world ; you do realize that even birds rest every now and then and unlike thou their wings do not compete with their body for energy , even after a heavy meal , thee'd never make it to the dark continent alive ,thou dost remark all of this , dost thee not ? " asked Bernafsudin
"Well , whether i make it or not , the kings royal fleet of escorts , we the angels shall find his murderer , now care to inform me where ye were yesterday during the king's bedtime ? " responded Akicita
Bernafsudin's face turned pale and for a minute the plastic-teethy smile that he had always plastered on his face vanished , " Why yes !!! " he said in panic , " Thee hast then a valid point ( he then looked around swinging his head from side to side , looking up and down and again from left to right ) , i was at the stables hooking up with the palefrenier and my dear eromenos , and now that thee hast what thou searched so yearningly for , art thy hunger replenished ? "
Bernafsudin then walked away leaving Akicita even more puzzled , all was well but something wasn't adding up , that day on which he clames to have slept with the stable boy , was the very day the castle was under lockdown due to a disease having infested half the royal staff . Akicita then sat down and starred at the water .
Just then came along the eromenos ; " I see that thou art troubled by the design of time , thou hast a partner but that colleague treats thee good as dead ; tell me why dost someone of thy calibre care as much to worry over the death of another tyrant : sometghing about this story art too profound that thou canst grap it wholly " he said as he offered his hand over to Akicita , a sign that he was signing up as her personal inner spy
" Why wouldst thee breaketh the deed with thy master all because of me , my grudge against the murder is for only me to know , ye are subjects to a tyrant thee says but but nearly forgets that that tyrant wert more humane than ye combined but to prove my fault thee musteth then accept thy aide and my aide . We shall find the murderer if that is thy truest intention and we shall avoid a war the sons of man lose winning at the price of their souls " said Akicita in response
Akicita then took Thabani's hand , Thabani then took out of his robe a paper and handed it over to her , she read
" THEREON hear hee , take heed for the progeniture of the malefique Grootslang hast gained way with the angels of the tribunal , a coup of state is planned where the King's right man is to lead Kafisa to his fall ; Geonas shall handeth forth the throne to its betrothed Bernafsudin , the regent of Kafisa II "
She was bewieldered knowing that Bernafsudin's alibi checked out , he was indeed making out with the stable worker , then of all situations the note was probably anticipated , Akicita was confused , how could Bernafsudin plan all this when he is the one than called her in to help in the fast place , " Where didst thee find this piece of evidence " she asked and Thabani all shivering and worried responded in a whisper " I am the nephew of Kafisa I , my parents were murdered by thy higness because they failed to help thee whilst the was trapped on the streets , my parents robbed thee of thy heritage and watched thee slowly die and so he killed them the night my mother had me twelve years ago , he raised me like one of his own only to make me a sex slave and to award me to my current master after he was appointed right wing man , My parent's death led my sister to start an anti-monarchal rebellion and the instant i learnt of it , i went on to confront her but i found her shaking hands with an angel and she had this paper , a few nights later i found the paper in my master's room , and whilst he was in the stable house , i left to confront him and found him making out with the stable boy , he forced me to join in and that was when i lost my virginity and purity , but as we were at it , i noticed my sister quietly steal a horse from the stable and with her was Geonas Stanlin , i was obviously in disbelief , my master had betrayed the king " responded Thabani
Akicita : (in thought ) Wait , he was raped and that to him seems ok , he is a victim but he still supports the "king" , a king who can't take care of the people under his juridiction , what a monarch , High chances are the king did survive but is being held captive rather by Amethyst Ben Odokku or Geonas Stanlin or maybe even the slightest by both of them .
"I understand your worries , go order the ship to disembark at the Mao-Samui islands , that way we can interrogate thy sister and Geonas Stanlin without having to make a U-turn . " said Akicita as she tried to hug the sobbing Thabani " Thou dost what was right " she said as he backed away due his self disgust and shame .
Two hours later
Hoot-hooooooooooot! sounded the ship , a sign meant to alert its arrival to the coast guards of the beach and port ; everyone in the ship awoke , dusk it was but the dawn wasn't as far as promissed , from their slumber-chambers they came to watch at which land their fate had befell ; two steps out her room and the foul scent of corpses haunted her nostrils , on the icebergs were bodies of the sons of man hanged to their demise ; with arrows in their fresh bleeding wounds and fingers missing from their palms .
"Stop!" ordered Akicita : she held the edges of the boat and leapt , in the cold misty air , her wings spread and flapped so hard that the water below her formed a tiny wave , just enough to push the boat away , she flew towards one of the bodies and examined their cause of death , she then flew to the next and so on further more , till she returned to the deck where everytone awaited on her analysis and orders ; her fave was cold and stark , no expression - no words , not even a sigh ... she stood there with her wings folding back in,to place beneath her cloak , she looked on confused , baffled and traumatised .
"We are in enemy territory , surely she is our killer ! " said Bernafsudin , his face as pale as shock , the kind of face any guilty man would have made , " You ! ... how can we trust you , you could be just as bad as your sister ! Death to the witch " yelled Anasais , the royal advisor as he lifted his gold dressed finger at Thabani who stood just as far enough from Bernafsudin to be hidden without having to be in his master's shadow .
"Hey , Anasais , why don't you pick on someone that can actually fight back , if ye wilt to address my personnelle , thou shalt have to address me first and i shan't repeat myself " said Bernafsudin in a cold tone , one used after exhaustrion from repetition of something thee deems to simple to be repeated to an average human without any sign of comprehension.
"Oh , i will do as i wish , thou dost not order me : we all knowen that he was officially promised to me before thee wentest to thy higness - soul rest in peace - that thee hast not an eromenos " Ansais replied as he laughed wildly together with the rest of the crew . Bernafsudin slowly climbed the stairs - pucking his jaws as he jeered , he walked towards Anasais and everyone kept quiet and observed an utter silence , Anasais then jeered at him and as he turned to walk away , Bernafsudin held his shoulder and piulled him back , and before Anasais could say a word ... Pyaaaaaaaaa! was the only sound heard coming from anywhere around his face
"Thee dost permits thyself to touch me , " the flamboyant Anasais yelled as he held the edges of Bernafsudin's cloak . Bernafsudin then smiled " Not everyone had to bottom for thy higness so as to get promoted - not once ... not twice - you dirty little ( his smile fades ) horny roué " he said as Anasais was about to hit him back , Akicita spoke
" All those bodies , all those inhuman ways to die , all those innocent souls murdered - and why ? " she asked as she walked forward into a crowd that formed for her a path , Thabani then approached her but didn't bother instilling any means of connection , he was suffering from shame , Akicita then held his palm looking him in the eye and hugged him with both hands and wings.
Whispers flooded the crowd , " Are you sure that your master was with thee , he seems to have a tad bit of leverage on Anasais , that could help us finden thy link between thee and the murder of the king ... it would make sense that one like the other wanted the king gone because of zir misfortunate choice of letting the Jester be the reigning regent over zir progeniture " whispered Akicita into Thabani's ears
"I do recall passing out after penetration but it was for a minute or two but that is not enough time to murder somebody and hide their body , what if he was collaborating with my sister ? " replied Thabani as he looked suspiciously at Bernafsudin " Go then and find out more , i will deal with the interrogation : i suggest that you stay here and avoid bad memories once you gain sight of your sister " whispered Akicita as she let him go
Akivita : (in thought ) we have so far six suspects ; Thabani , Bernafsudin , Anasais , Geonas , Amethyst and the jester . When it comes to Thabani , i don't understand why he supports the king , why does any of them even do it for goodness gracious , Bernafsudin has an alibi but that alibi constitutes about nearly multiple probabilities , he could have probably killed the king himself or maybe he is working with Amethyst , speaking of her , i practically know nothing about her , the only thing i do know is that she is thabani's sister ... THABANI!!! The only copmmon link between all of these suspects is Thabani himself , either he is my murder , probably a great mastermind or he is a victim and the killer's actual target - that would explain a lot . One thing above all is certain , the king still lives on .
As Thabani head on to his chambers , he was met by both Anasais and Bernafsudin , " And so little boy , what wert thee and dear old dectective chatting about ; i see that yee have gotten quite close these last few days " they said , Anasais held Thabani by his collar and right before Bernafsudin could hit him with the back of his wrist , knuckles to face , a young woman's voice echoed in the halls " Unhanden him whilst ye still can or as i like to say , while thee still hath breath in thy airsacs " she said
Thabani was dropped onto the ground , his dear model body bruised from the fall and poor diet , in his eyes was a fear unlike any other and just then he received a hand helping him up " Amy ! " he exclaimed in shock , " Howdy there baby brother , i see thee has finally grown an apple in thy throat , and to think that that was thy greatest fear - i guess you got over ( notises cut scars on his throat ) well still on about body dysmorphia but i guess i can understand " she said , Thabani smiled but right before he could even get the chance to think things through and probably make the right choice ...
He said " Thee hast to get out of here before the detective finds thou , i don't know how thou art connected to this and i ignore it but the king lived long - our uncle is missing henceforth proclaimed death , our whole kingdom is at stake and worry roams the streets without passport nor permission , anybody they can blame they shall blameth " and she smiled , just then just as she opened her mouth to speak , she was interrupted "Amethyst Ben Odokku , step away from Thabani , drop thy weapon and put thy hands on thine chest , thee is allowed to follow in for questionning , do thou understand ? " asked Akicita
Amethyst dropped her harpon and followed Akicita . And the rest dispersed except Thabani who tagged along with Akicita so as to keep safe . "Where were thee , the night of the disappearance of King Kafisa I , thy uncle if i may presume " asked Akicita as she walked on ahead of them
"I did make a stop at the palace , it was to visit my baby brother but in no other circumstances could i have anything to do with the King's abscence , i have an excuse - an alibi , when i saw my brother get pinned down by a male twice his age and size , i had no option but to beat that man up and free the stable boy who i then left with my fainted baby brother , i then went to Tyrone's in town and treated myself to a good old poitin . " explained Amethyst
"Then try talking to me and convincing me about all the bodies hanged on those icebergs " ordered Akicita
"You mean the bloody icelands , we actually collected those from the war Kafisa led against the other humans led by his brother , the war ocurred years before we were born , some of us ( starring at Thabani ) but it still lives on till today , in fact the icebergs keep the bodies so fresh that it looks like they were slaughtered yesterday " explained Amethyst
" Well , since i have no evidence pinning thee to the crime , tell me - did thou notice anything strange that night ? " asked Akicita
" No , i did not , i did though hear my brother's master claim to go ask the king for another sex slave because i might have hit him a little too hard ..." said Amethyst before she was interrupted
"Wait , thee wantest to tell me that Bernafsudin happened to go see the king the same night he went missing ? " asked Akicita in realization.
"Yes , he did pledge to kill my brother and so forth if otherwise so i'm pretty sure he dost end up seeing the king in the narrative " she said as Akicita stood up and left , she spread her wings and flew inside the ship leaving everything inside upside down .
Akicita : ( in thought ) How couldn't i see it , it was right below my nose , Bernafsudin is the only noble that the king rarely gifted , his alibi is half baked - no son of man can last as long in bed , and in fact he left angrily so as to afront the king - a deuil he was never bound to win , he doesn't really care if we find the king or not nor if we find the assasin or not , he literally assaulted thabani sexually and just now before Amethyst intervened ; he probably killed the king and left Geonas' name written on the book as a false clue . Wait , Geonas' name was written in blood , that substance is hard to wash off , as blue as it really is .
Just then a boat was leaving the ship and Akicita spotted it out a tiny window that even the slimest modely couldn't use as as an exit , she braced herself and swung mid-air towards the shut window then wrapped herself or in simpler terms sandwiched herself in her wings and pierced a whole through the solid ship , her wings were bleeding and probably hurting due to the wind that was blowing on her scars , she flew to boat and made as swift crash-landing , she stood up and limped towards the door only to find Anasais and Bernafsudin having intercourse , she got out quick and vomitted and then Bernafsuddin dressed in only a cloth came out , " How can i be of service , dear Akicita ? " he asked
"Bernafsudin Koa Maluhia , thee hast the right to follow in for questionning , do thou understand ? " she asked and Berbafsuddin clutched his cloth
Bernafsudin took a seat and said " Yes , i did it "
"Dideth what ? " asked Akicita
"I betrayed the king ... that night as i climbed the royal stairs into his chambers , i nopticed one of the windows wasn't welly shut and when i opened up the door to his room i noticed Geonas standing there and so i asked what he was doing here but he vanished in a spark of light , how was i supposed to explain that to anyone , i searched for the king and when i couldn't find him , i decided to search for his diary , he had a tendence to write with deep dark red ink but i wasn't able to find any and so i tried cutting myself but i failed and then i realized that i always had that pimple down there , i popped it band used its blood to write Geonas so that i wouldn't have to say it but his name would still lead us to him " explained Bernafsudin
" Thou dost realize that because of thine antics , trying to keep the glory to thy name ; the king - thy bestfriend could probably be sacrificed any minute now as we speak " said Akicita , she sighed and rolled her eyes
"Take us back to the ship " she ordered and then , Anasais asked her as she felt betrayed , "What gift dost thou possess " and she looked at the open waters ... " As a child i realized , all the angels in my family had the useless gifts , my dad was born with that of tidyness and my mom that of kitchen duties , we were low ranking angels and so we had to constantly prove ourselves to earn a place in a world in which angels were still a source of ethousiasm and amazement to the sons of man - as the others got richer and much more popular amongst the people , my family got poorer and poorer to a point at which any huiman was better than us 21fold , i lived trying to learn my powers only to realize , my powers are my beautiful peacock wings , their strength and stamina , their agility and accuracy. I was heartbroken to learn that but what could i do , having discovered my potential i then begun to fly high past the stratosphere only to breathe in that scent of raw energy and watch my body lose itself to it as i lost consciousness ; i dreamed top reach the stars as i'd fall but i'd always awaken on the ground with another broken arm , forced to be useless for eternity . Later on i learnt that my wings can have minor effects on humans and so i decide to use that to my advantage and become a detective - that way i became more useful to a society that refuses to acknowledge my presence , even after working day and night and putting my life at the stakes , i am still the baker's daughter to their eyes , reminds me of the carpenter's son , so ironic how he died for the sons of man but is stiull called a carpenter. My power is so then my constant determination and my empathy , my apathy and my intellectual capacity , my syupidity and all my flaws , including this stupid diary " she said as she pulled out Kafisa's diary , then all of a sudden the diary opened and a page tore itself from the book and levited a meter away as measured , in Kafisa's voice it read
"If thee is reading this , that means that thee hast foundeth the first lead in solving my murder case and to all it's worth , i wish you the best , LONG LIVE THE KING !!! "
