Chapter 103 - Fracture Theory

The Triangle did not reset after the pilot.

It adapted.

Which, Dreyden had learned, was worse.

Reset implied defeat. Adaptation implied learning.

And systems that learned became dangerous.

The Integrity Stabilization Pathway had not collapsed. It had simply changed shape. Public dashboards were replaced by "curated summaries." Engagement metrics were delayed by hours. Enforcement units were still present—but dressed down, sleeves no longer black, posture no longer confrontational.

Soft power.

The kind that smiled while adjusting the cage.

Dreyden stood at the edge of the upper terrace overlooking the central courtyard, hands resting against the cold rail. Below, students moved in looser clusters than before the crackdown. Not careless.

Aware.

There was a difference now.

Before, people avoided being seen together.

Now, they made sure to be seen—just within regulation limits.

Three here.

Two there.

Four walking apart but converging at intersecting paths without stopping.
