Chapter 14 - A Battle Between Life and Death

Shock and overwhelming rage gathered in the Goblin King's eyes, completely erasing the confidence he had held just moments ago.

As he let out a maddened roar and charged toward Subutai, four arrows suddenly whistled through the air from behind.

"Graaaah!"

Subutai blocked the arrows and dodged, doing his best to avoid a direct confrontation with the Goblin King. His plan was clear first eliminate the goblin archers, then deal with the Goblin King.

However, the Goblin King suddenly pressed forward, leaving Subutai with no choice but to keep evading. He needed to find a way to shake the Goblin King off and create an opening to kill the archers.

As Subutai narrowly dodged one of the Goblin King's attacks and slipped past his side, something suddenly whistled toward him from the front. Seeing the arrow flying straight at him, Subutai raised his spear to block it and quickly retreated, keeping his distance from the Goblin King.

He tried several times to break away, but each attempt ended in failure.

In the end, Subutai clenched his teeth and decided to fight the Goblin King head-on.

When the Goblin King closed in, Subutai struck first, slicing his skin. The tip of the spear barely pierced the Goblin King's flesh, and blood slowly began to seep from the shallow wound.

The Goblin King paid it no mind and swung his sword, trying to cut Subutai down. Subutai easily dodged and stabbed again, inflicting yet another minor wound.

I can't kill him like this…

At that moment, something sliced across Subutai's skin. Startled, he jumped back and realized that the archers behind the Goblin King were firing arrows.

He had been too focused on the fight in front of him and had neglected the archers.

Having trained in boxing since childhood, Subutai was used to focusing all his attention on a single opponent. Fighting multiple enemies at once was extremely difficult for him especially when facing such a powerful foe. A moment of carelessness could mean injury… or death.

Gritting his teeth, Subutai charged at the Goblin King once more.

Each of his attacks left shallow wounds on the Goblin King.

"My attacks aren't doing any real damage."

"Can I really defeat this monster?"

But as his thoughts wandered, a powerful strike came crashing toward him. Subutai snapped out of it, but it was already too late.

With no choice left, he raised his spear to block.

At first, the impact didn't seem too heavy but suddenly, an immense pressure surged through the spear, as if it were being crushed.

Subutai barely managed to hold on. His face flushed red, veins bulged, and his arms began to tremble violently.

The Goblin King increased his strength and flung Subutai backward.

Subutai staggered several steps before regaining his balance. When he raised his spear again, his hands were still shaking.

Even so, he refused to give up.

The Goblin King was stronger, but his speed was inferior to Subutai's. As long as he stayed careful, there was still a chance.

Subutai continued to dodge, landing one or two counterattacks each time. But it was obvious that fighting like this would never lead to victory. Worse still, arrows continued to rain down from behind the Goblin King.

The most troubling part was that his arms still hadn't stopped trembling.

The arrows slowed Subutai's movements, slicing his skin again and again. Even so, he gritted his teeth and continued to fight, dodging both the Goblin King's attacks and the incoming arrows.

Suddenly, Subutai slipped past the Goblin King's strike and lunged straight for his throat.

Sensing the danger, the Goblin King retreated for the first time.

A burning pain flared across his neck. When he slowly raised a hand to touch it, green blood stained his fingers.

His face twisted in rage as he let out a furious roar.

"GAAARRRHH! GAAARRHHH!"

Subutai quickly pulled back, took a deep breath, and locked eyes with the Goblin King. At that moment, a brilliant idea flashed through his mind.

He charged forward boldly, dodging several attacks without striking back. He weaved between frontal blows and the arrows whistling in from behind, as if patiently waiting for a single perfect opportunity.

At last, the moment arrived.

The Goblin King gripped his sword with both hands, gathering all his strength to deliver a devastating downward strike.

This is it.

If Subutai could successfully dodge this attack, the Goblin King would be left almost completely defenseless.

As Subutai barely avoided the strike and moved to counterattack, he heard the sharp whistle of an arrow flying toward him.

Countless thoughts flashed through his mind but in the end, he chose the most dangerous option, even if it meant death.

Subutai did not dodge the arrow.

With a crazed grin on his face, he swung his spear with all his strength toward the Goblin King's eye.

Blood burst from the Goblin King's eye as he reflexively shut it, screaming in madness and swinging his sword wildly.

"GRAAAH!"

At the moment Subutai felt a surge of triumph, something struck his shoulder. An overwhelming pain exploded through his body, wiping the smile from his face as he screamed uncontrollably.

"AAAAAAAH!"

Looking down, he saw an arrow embedded deep in his shoulder, blood pouring down his arm.

Enduring the pain, Subutai clenched his teeth to stop himself from screaming again. His spear slipped from his grasp and crashed to the ground.

Fighting to stay upright, Subutai raised his hand and grabbed the arrow lodged in his shoulder. After taking several deep breaths, he snapped the shaft in half.

He knew all too well that pulling it out completely would cause him to bleed to death.

His hand trembled as he held the broken arrow.

Suddenly, hearing Subutai's earlier scream, the Goblin King swung his sword toward him.

Subutai's hair stood on end as he quickly looked up and saw the blade flying straight at him. He hurriedly retreated, barely dodging the attack, while the Goblin King continued slashing wildly in all directions.

Taking a deep breath, Subutai ignored the Goblin King.

Instead, he turned his gaze toward the four goblin archers still standing behind him.

Clenching his teeth, Subutai picked up his spear and began walking toward them. His steps quickened until he broke into a run.

Every step sent searing pain through his shoulder, but he endured it and pressed forward.

Suddenly, four arrows flew toward him at once.

Barely able to grip his spear with one hand, Subutai immediately dodged. Unable to avoid them completely due to the pain, several new shallow wounds appeared across his body.

As Subutai drew closer, the goblin archers continued retreating.

Blood flowed heavily from his shoulder. His head spun, his vision blurred, and his speed began to slow.

For some reason, an overwhelming drowsiness washed over him.

His eyelids grew heavy…

…and slowly began to close.
