All of them looked back at the airship, either in confusion because they didn't understand why it fired on one of them, or they looked at the airship in fear because they didn't need any reason to be afraid other than the fact that Greg had started firing on them, his allies.
One of the fearful ones, the middle-aged man named Benard, saw this and sighed as he said, "I knew this was too good to be true. I guess I got blinded by greed. Now I am going to pay for it."
He believed that Greg was out to kill all of them so that Greg would be able to hoard all of the merit points. But he didn't wait for death to come to him.
After he realized that Greg was unredeemable, he chose a direction to escape to and began to run in that direction. He was quickly followed by the other five veterans.
Even the clueless newbies began to scatter when they saw this. Their decision to escape turned out to be the right one because Greg was turning the airship again for another round of bombardment.
