Chapter 8 - Mockery.

Slav asked with pure unadulterated mockery, "Do you know the number of people who awaken an Innate Metac every year in the Four Direction Sect? There are more than a thousand of them. I won't even be surprised if there are more than ten thousand people with a talent greater than 50%. Even so, there are only 100 divine beings in the whole world. So it is definitely not by talent."

After saying this much, he stopped laughing and sneered at the young man before saying, "You're shit. You're just an ordinary person who got lucky. You're worth nothing more."

Then he patted his chest and said, "Even I, with a powerful family, don't dare to covet a rank 6 divine power. What more, you are a lucky fool?"

The young man became angry that a young boy had derided him like this in front of everyone. So he stood up and said angrily to Slav, "Shut up, boy. If you don't shut up, I'll beat you up."

But Slav didn't back down. He sneered at the young man and said, "If you have the guts, why don't you come and beat me?"

The young man was truly indignant and very angry, so he took a step forward towards Slav. It was clear that he was ready to teach Slav a lesson. But Muni intervened at the last moment.

Muni said calmly to the young man, "Sit back down immediately."

His face was cold as he gave that order, so even though he didn't shout and appeared calm, the man took him seriously and quickly returned to his seat.

After the young man sat down, Muni said sternly to him, "Next time that you do such a thing as to try to break the rules right in front of me, I will make you wish for the sweet release of death."

Then Muni turned to Slav and said with a frown on his face, "You troublemaker. Don't make trouble for me, or I will be forced to fine you."

He was frowning, but it was clear that he was more frustrated than angry with Slav. This was the opposite of his reaction to the young man.

Slav also didn't cower and instead smiled at Muni as he said, "I'm sorry for the disturbance, Instructor Muni. I just couldn't withstand his ignorant boasting."

Muni snorted in response before saying, "If not for your powerful father, I would have given you ten lashes for speaking in my class without permission."

Loki watched all of these happen with a growing realization that Muni didn't dare to actually punish Slav. This was because Muni had threatened to fine Slav, while he had threatened to make the young man wish for death. This was even though Slav was the one who caused the trouble.

The young man also recognized the preferential treatment that Slav was receiving. It made him feel cheated.

Then he heard Muni say that Slav's father was powerful, so he gritted his teeth and thought to himself, "Only time will tell. Only time will tell who will have the last laugh."

"Is it not power? I, too, can be powerful."

On the other side, Muni continued his class as if nothing had happened. He said, "Young Slav is not entirely wrong. He was right to say that the chances of advancing to rank 6 and becoming a divine being aren't dependent on just talent. There is also a need for hard work, luck, and powerful connections."

"This is because there is a limited number of people who can advance to rank 6 in the world. So the competition for rank 6 is stiff."

After saying this, he paused and sighed before saying, "I heard that in ancient times, things weren't so difficult as this. I heard that cultivators could gain extra lifespan right from rank 1. I heard that rank 1 cultivators can live up to 150 years, rank 2 cultivators can live up to 250 years, and some rank 5 people can live for 2,000 years."

Then he shook his head as he said, "I find it difficult to believe that such a thing was possible. If it is true, then those days are long gone. It is nothing more than a fairy tale now."

His voice was gloomy and despondent as he said these things. But he quickly cheered himself up and continued the lesson.

Just as Muni had said, they spent more than eight hours learning how to cultivate. When they became tired, they napped or rested. Then they resumed after a while.

Muni didn't have many expectations or require much from them. He allowed anyone to sleep if they wanted to. As long as they didn't make noise and create a ruckus in his class, he didn't mind what they did.

The reason he was like this became known to them after the class. Muni didn't bother to hide it because he thought there was no use in hiding it.

Muni woke everyone who was sleeping so that he could address them before he called an end to the class. He glanced at the yawning Slav briefly before saying, "Aside from the young ones among you, all of you are adults. So you're free to make your decisions and deal with the consequences of your decision."

"I spent 8 hours today helping you learn how to cultivate. Such a thing will never happen again. At least, not for free."

"At most, we will have one-hour classes per day for cultivation from now on. So I hope you took advantage of what I gave you today to learn as much as you could."

Then he smiled at them as he said, "That aside, it is time for your assignment. I will give you one month, after which I will test your cultivation. The four weakest of you will be eliminated after the test."

No one was surprised to hear this because Muni had informed them right from day one about the dangers of the initiation program. But some people still couldn't help but be nervous for one reason or another.
