The captain bent down, leaning close to Alex's ear, whispering so that only the two of them could hear, his rapid breathing betraying his unease.
"I fear this is not a normal event." he said, his voice dropping to a mysterious low: "I am a witness. I saw that moment."
Alex was astonished, almost crying out, but hurriedly covered his mouth with his hand and lowered his voice to ask: "You saw the culprit? What did he look like?"
At the mention of the word culprit, the captain's face turned ashen gray like dead ash, his eyes revealing extreme terror. He shook his head violently: "There was no culprit, at least I didn't see anyone attack him. I only saw him walking out of the alley alone, screaming, and then his hands just... detached."
Alex's face went pale in an instant.
Two hands could not simply fall off on their own like autumn leaves. If it wasn't done by a human with a weapon, then it could only be those unclean things, those evil supernatural forces.
