Chapter 48: A-Rank Ninjutsu
Ronin reappeared on the roof of a residential building.
The lightning around him snapped out of existence with a loud crack. He exhaled deeply, his breathing heavy.
Omokage had indeed set up numerous ambushes. However, the skirmish confirmed one critical detail: There were no traces of other Phantom Troupe members.
Is he really alone?
Ronin took out the preservation jar from his backpack.
Then, he removed the pair of Scarlet Eyes from the severed head of the Nobunaga doll. He felt a distinct resonance—a signal that they could be absorbed. This confirmed they were genuine, not Kortopi's fakes.
Ronin used the Transformation Jutsu to disguise himself, packed the eyes, and headed back to the hotel. Only once he was inside did he finally relax.
He briefed Kurapika on the situation and placed the jar of Scarlet Eyes on the table.
Seeing the eyes floating in the jar, Kurapika froze. His own eyes instantly turned scarlet in resonance.
Ronin sighed. He didn't absorb them immediately. He gave Kurapika a moment alone with the remains of their kin.
While Kurapika grieved, Ronin entered a state of Zetsu to recover his stamina, his mind analyzing the layout of the church.
Kurapika didn't stay inside for long. Shortly after Ronin closed his eyes, Kurapika emerged from the room, carrying the jar.
His eyes were still slightly red, but it was the redness of crying, not the scarlet of rage.
"Here, Brother Ronin," Kurapika handed the jar over solemnly. "We have important things to do. You need to get stronger quickly so we have a better chance at revenge!"
Ronin took the jar. He didn't hide away to absorb it. Right in front of Kurapika, he wrapped his hands around the glass and injected his aura.
Inside the jar, the Scarlet Eyes dissolved into a stream of crimson warmth—visible even to the non-Nen-user Kurapika—that flowed along Ronin's aura and surged into his own eyes.
As the warmth faded, Ronin's pitch-black eyes changed.
They turned crimson. The two existing Tomoe spun, and slowly, a third Tomoe formed alongside them.
When the red glow subsided, Ronin possessed the fully matured Three-Tomoe Sharingan.
Kurapika watched the entire process. Brother Ronin didn't lie. Perhaps because he was there during the massacre, our people entrusted their hope to him!
This time, Kurapika didn't cry. He looked at Ronin with a complex mix of emotions.
The aura capacity boost didn't double this time.
Based on Miria's calculation method, Ronin estimated the increase was around 5,000 aura units.
It seemed 5,000 was the max yield per pair. Subsequent fusions likely wouldn't provide exponential growth.
Subtracting Ronin and Kurapika, there were 32 pairs of eyes left. If each gave 5,000, absorbing them all would yield a total of 160,000 aura units.
And that was just from the eyes.
Ronin was still in his rapid growth phase as a martial artist. Combined with his own training, his future potential was staggering.
For now, with the third pair absorbed, his total capacity reached nearly 15,000 units.
Casting B-Rank Jutsu felt much easier now. As for A-Rank...
Ronin kept his Sharingan active and raised his hand, forming seals. Green Chakra immediately coated his palm.
Mystical Palm Technique.
An A-Rank Medical Ninjutsu. High difficulty, high consumption, but incredible healing power for both internal and external injuries.
He performed it effortlessly. It felt almost unreal.
If the third pair unlocked A-Rank, would the fourth pair unlock S-Rank? And what came after S-Rank?
Ronin couldn't predict it, but he would find out as he continued collecting.
For now, he needed to consider which A-Rank Jutsu were useful.
The most relevant one for his current situation was the sensory technique he had considered before: The Telescope Technique used by the Third Hokage to spy on Naruto.
To use it, he needed a crystal ball. Thankfully, those were sold in department stores.
The other condition was knowing the target's Chakra signature.
Fortunately, Ronin had handled the head of the Nobunaga doll earlier, making direct contact with Omokage's Nen.
Ronin told Kurapika he was heading out and used Transformation to visit a department store.
Combat-oriented A-Rank Jutsu consumed massive amounts of Chakra. Even with the unlocked permissions, casting them effectively was difficult with his current reserves.
Capacity. I still need more capacity.
If he could unlock S-Rank Jutsu, he could learn Tsunade's Strength of a Hundred Seal (Yin Seal).
Storing Chakra over time to release it when needed would solve his stamina issues perfectly.
Combined with Creation Rebirth and Strength of a Hundred Technique, the Yin Seal would make him nearly unkillable.
After buying a crystal ball, Ronin returned to the hotel.
He activated the Telescope Technique. The crystal ball flickered, then displayed an image of the surrounding area.
Ronin manipulated the view, scrolling through the streets until he found the dolls lurking near the battle site.
However, he discovered a limitation: his current mastery of the technique only allowed a viewing radius of 1 kilometer.
The church was about three kilometers away from the hotel.
"We need to move," Ronin said, packing the crystal ball.
Kurapika woke up a groggy Neon, and the three of them went downstairs. They got into a second-hand sedan Ronin had bought and drove toward the church.
Neon stared out the window. She had abandoned any thought of escaping.
Earlier that morning, she saw a news report about her kidnapping.
Her father, Light Nostrade, hadn't taken it seriously. He was busy with social engagements. The article even included a photo of him entering a high-end club with a woman barely older than Neon, laughing and drinking.
Clearly, her father had abandoned her as a burden.
If that's the case, I might as well stick with Ronin, she thought bitterly. If I die because of my own prophecy, at least I won't be alone.
Plus, Ronin had given her a pretty cool collectible.
