Standing between Yan Wuhen and Lan Meishan as they walked through the fox manor grounds was not how Ningyan had planned to end the night.
Thick, uncomfortable silence stretched between them until Wuhen broke it.
"Were you the one who hurt my sister?"
The seriousness in his tone sent a cold shiver down Ningyan's spine, even though the question wasn't directed at him.
Lan Meishan stopped walking.
So did Ningyan.
Wuhen stepped forward, moving to stand directly in front of Meishan and Ningyan instinctively shifted, placing himself between them.
Could he stop them if it turned into a fight?
No.
But they both liked him.
…Was that enough?
For a brief, absurd moment, Ningyan felt like a teenager trapped in a ridiculous love-triangle trope.
"I have healed Qinghe," Meishan said quietly, his voice calm and measured. "I'd rather not answer any questions."
