Chapter 15 - 15: Buying A Sword

Simon stared at the vial that contained the blood essence. The blood essence in the vial was completely black, and Simon could have sworn he saw a maw appear on it for a brief moment.

'Am I seeing things.'

Simon rubbed his eyes with a baffled expression, but he didn't see the maw in the blood essence anymore, making him to believe he had seen wrong.

'That blood essence... I wonder what bloodline it contains. I've never seen it before.'

Simon looked at the tag on the vial, and when he saw the name of the blood essence, his eyes flickered with a curious and calculating glint.

'A Devourer's blood essence? I never encountered a Devourer in my six decades of being Earth's Hero.'

'What type of demon is a Devourer?'

Simon tried to find the price of the blood essence, but he found nothing.

Simon was not the only demon that noticed the presence of the vial of black blood essence. Other demons noticed it, and they asked about the price of the blood essence.

"How much is that blood essence?" A demon in his thirties asked, and Zaglur looked at the demon with his ever present smile.

"You can't afford it, young one."

The demon was taken aback when he heard the merchant refer to him as a young one. As a demon in his thirties, he was definitely not young. But when he thought about the immense power the merchant possessed, every thought of correcting the merchant's words vanished from his mind.

"At least tell us the price, sir merchant. Who knows, one of us might be able to purchase it."

Another demon said, and Simon recognized this demon. He was one of the rich demons in their tribe, and Simon had made him one of his potential victims in the future.

Zaglur looked at the "rich" demon, and a light of disdain flashed in his eyes.

"Alright. Since you're so curious, the price of this blood essence is one low grade Infernal crystal."

Everywhere became completely silent the moment they heard this, and even Simon was left stunned.

The reason for this reaction was because of how absurdly expensive the blood essence was.

In the demon realm, there were six main kingdoms, and these kingdoms each had their currencies.

The six main kingdoms were the Infernal Kingdom, the Abyssal Kingdom, the Obsidian Kingdom, the Crimson Kingdom, the Umbral Kingdom, and the Nether Kingdom.

The Duskfang Tribe was in the region of the Infernal Kingdom, and the currencies used in the Infernal Kingdom were: Bone coins, Infernal shards, and Infernal crystals.

The currencies also had sub-grades, but the exchange rate of each currency were: A single low grade Infernal shard was equivalent to a million peak grade bone coins, and a single Infernal Crystal was equivalent to a thousand peak grade Infernal shards.

This meant that one low grade Infernal Crystal was equal to a billion peak grade bone coins.

This was an amount of money that was worth more than their entire tribe. It was an amount many could not even fathom.

Even Simon who was secretly one of the richest in the entire tribe, did not even have up to a single percent of such a money.

'I only have about a thousand mid-grade bone coins. Buying this item or any item on this table is not possible in the slightest.'

Simon glanced at the merchant, and when he saw the hidden disdain and disgust in his eyes, he was not surprised.

'Who knows, the blood essence might be more expensive than what he said. He probably said it because he knows that none of us could afford it even if he called a lower price than normal.'

Simon gazed at the vial of blood essence in intrigue, and he wondered what abilities the blood essence had.

'From the knowledge I have of demons, if I'm able to absorb the blood essence and absorb it fully, my bloodline would experience an evolution and completely change. It'll enhance my talent. My useless bloodline would have far more potential.'

Simon's eyes shone with a calculating and dangerous glint as he looked at the vial of blood essence.

'I wish I could steal it from the merchant. I need it to improve my chances of survival in the demon realm.'

Despite having this thought and several other thoughts of how to steal the vial of Devourer's blood essence without getting caught, he decided to push down all those thoughts since he knew that the chances of him coming out without getting caught was very low.

He looked at the merchant. "Do you have a sword made out of metal? It can be the cheapest sword you have. I just need a sword that's made out of metal."

Zaglur looked at Simon with a raised brow hearing his request. He had noticed the way Simon stared at the Devourer's blood essence with desire, but Simon was not the only person to have such a heated gaze.

There were many other demons that stared at the vial without blinking once, and Zaglur knew that it was only because of his presence, a brutal fight was not ongoing right now.

"Of course. I have what you need, young one." Zaglur snapped his fingers, and a dozen swords appeared in front him.

"Choose one."

Simon looked at each of the dozen swords with slightly furrowed brows. He tried to use his knowledge of the swords to try and see if he would be lucky to find a sword that seemed normal, but was not.

Just like how some main characters in some novels were usually lucky. Unfortunately, all the swords were normal swords. There was nothing special about them.

He picked a longsword made out of black iron, and then he looked at Zaglur.

"How much is it?" He asked with a slightly cautious expression.

Zaglur smiled when he saw Simon's expression. "Normally, it's meant to cost a single Infernal shard, but for you, young one... I'll sell it for a single mid-grade bone coin? If you do, I'll sell it to you. And if you want to buy the scabbard, you'll have to pay another mid-grade bone coin, so two mid-grade bone coins in total, young one."

Simon's eyes widened, and then he quickly fished out a mid-grade bone coin from his pocket and gave it to the merchant before he changed his mind.

Zaglur smiled as he collected the bone coin from Simon.

"Nice doing business with you, young one."

Zaglur gestured with his finger, and Simon's black sword slowly landed in his hands.

"Here. This is its scabbard."

Zaglur gave Simon a black scabbard, and Simon took both of his items with relief and happiness.

Getting happy over a common sword was something he never knew he would feel, but only he knew how much he suffered not having a proper sword.

'With this, my training with the sword would experience a drastic increase.'

Simon placed the sword in the scabbard, ignoring the looks of jealousy and greed in the eyes of others.

Just as he did this, a commotion happened in the direction of Varkamon, the tribal chief.
