Chapter 10 - Kate

Lex slowly got out of the pond with the help of the green armoured knight; he hit the ground, shivering; his body stained with blood from top to bottom; an evil darting smile carved across his well-shaped face; he's defeated the boss.

{Congratulations!}

{You defeated the blood lust Qalupalik!}

{Job change quest accomplished}

{Job change in procedure...}

Lex turned to the side, shocked to see Kate laid directly beside him.

"What happened?" He asked Dane, quite agitated.

"She's gone," Dane spoke, shaking his head to and fro.

"That's all you ever do!" Snarled Lex as he positioned Kate well on his laps.

He then felt her chest; Dane wasn't wrong about her being dead; he couldn't feel her heartbeat again!

"This cannot be possible," thought Lex in his mind; "system, is there anyway you could help me?"

"System?" Dane asked, confused.

The system was silent for a second, then..

{Donate mana stones for an elixir of restoration.} The mechanical voice of the system answered plainly.

"How many do I have to donate?"

{Fifty}

"Donate it," Lex spoke confidently, staring at the translucent screen.

{Number of Mana stones remaining; 76}

The screen disappeared; Lex then peered directly at Kate, pugnaciously waiting for a response.

She coughed; water sprouting from her mouth and nose; Lex then sat her up.

"Kate, are you alright?"

"Well, it seems so," what about the blood lust Qalupalik?"

"I defeated it," answered Lex, heaving a sigh of relief, while asking her more questions.

Dane stared from behind in disbelief; how could he have defeated a blood lust Qalupalik, he thought within himself, and now he strangely woke someone who was dead.

"Okay then, Kate, I'm glad you're feeling better," Lex said, watching Kate stand.

The dungeon began to shake immensely; they grabbed both of their sacks and hurried out of the cave; Dane and Kate at the front, while Lex at the back; he took one last stare at the little pond, then hurried out of the cave.

Kate hopped out of the hole, followed by Dane and Lex, who used the rope, after which the dungeon crashed into itself.

{Ding!..}

{You've been given a new job quest.}

{As an addition to the elixir of restoration, compensation.}

{Number of Mana stones acquired 76/350}

Hmmm. Lex thought to himself, so the former job change quest is still ongoing.

{Yes}

Replied the system plainly, since the new job it's not a job change quest, then what is it.

"Then what job is it?"

{Plant cultivation}

Plant cultivation, Lex muttered to himself excitedly; that was a mage sort of job.

"Yes!" he spoke, clenching his fists.

"What's that?" Kate asked, peering at Lex suspiciously.

"It's nothing," Lex answered, scratching his head, nervously.

"When I was unconscious, what part did you touch?"

"W-what do you mean?" asked Lex, startling.

"I felt something, but it was unclear," Kate added.

It was probably when he touched her chest; Lex wondered to himself, "I only lifted you."

"Lieing pervert," Kate spoke slowly, her eyes narrowly squinted at Lex, who chuckled.

Dane then walked up to Nox, who stood close to a boulder, his overall flowing in the wind.

"I expect nothing less from an expert level knight, well accomplished, Dane," Nox spoke, his eyes set on Dane; he then walked up to Lex and Kate and spoke, "Congratulations, you are now resource miners; there are three ranks of resource miners, of which you are now ranked as the highest."

"What are those ranks?" Lex asked the system mentally.

{Regular miner}

{Brave miner}

{Callous miner}

"Whenever you're needed, you'll be summoned; this does not change your status as servants."

Nox then furtherly explained some other important things important to a miner, like where they would stay, what they would meet, and the tools they'll use.

Kate and Lex sat across each other in one of the prominent bars in Greyl city; Lex gnawed on the sweet dish; it was quite good, but couldn't be compared to that of mama Rina.

He took a glance of the flawless beauty just seating ahead of him, recalling what he'd written about the beast clan in his Novel.

The world of Aetheria was vast in an unending expanse, filled with civilization and non-civilization.

With the mostly civilized part, the realm of the nobles, and the uncivilized, in that of the beast kin, while the demonic realm vanished around the time of king Gregor during the great war.

"Alright, I'll tell," Kate spoke, crunching on the last of the moon-lit morsel.

"Tell what?" Asked Lex, staring at the cup of elven's dew at his front, confused; he hadn't written anything about elfs in his story, so why was the drink called elven's dew.

"It all happened back in my village," Kate spoke, sighing.

"Uhn? What happened?" asked Lex.

Kate then explained, "Just as you know, I am from the jaguar's clan; six years ago, there was a war between the jaguar and the Lions in a claim for the apex predator in the wilderness."

"After my father, the chief, went to battle with most of the troops, I, along with many others, were meant to protect the village."

"Two days passed, and we grew weary as news that we were growing triumphant in the battle were sent back to us; mother then ordered a feast that night."

"Unfortunately, that night, we were invaded by one of the lower nobles; we fought and drew with them; both sides gravely suffered."

"They kidnapped some of us, I included."

"It's been tough since then; I never had a chance to return; not so long, I was caught straying by a few of noble Barristan's guards, and that's how I got into prison."

"Wow," Lex spoke, taking a sip of the elven dew, while licking his lips afterwards, "you've been through a lot, Kate; couldn't say much of myself, though."

Lex then brought out a glowing, small, round, white object.

"Is that?"

"Yes, Kate, it's a pearl," confirmed Lex proudly, "I got it from the pond in the battle with the blood lust Qalupalik."
