Chapter 18 - 18 | Just One Punch

[Aiden's POV]

The blood in my veins sped up as Zale blurted those words out; generally, I didn't get angry from his words because. I expect this from him. Is this the result of turning into a Primarch? My thoughts flared up, I clenched my fist, and I barely stopped myself from giving a violent reaction.

"After awakening some high-rank ability, you have lost control of that loose mouth of yours," I commented, suppressing the urge to flatten his face.

I looked towards the protector assigned to him and said, "Are you sure about letting this go on? Now that he had gained approval and a chance at becoming the face of Arclight Clan, this behavior won't go well with the Clan. The one thing they like more than some talent is their name earned through generations."

Zale frowned up and shouted, "You are trying to scurry away by threatening me about Clan now. The same clan that you disliked from the start."

"I know the Arclights very well; that's why I disliked them from the start," I shot back.

The lackey behind didn't miss his chance to get in the good books of Zale. "Young Master, he is clearly afraid of you and making excuses and probably stalling. I suggest we just ignore him and take the beauty with us. I am sure she would love to be in your company rather than be with that fool," he put forth his thoughts.

"Nice idea, Sam; that's why I keep you around. However, you don't know our Aiden well; I know he will fight back. So why don't we do this? You were good in hand-to-hand fights in the academy."

"Let's make a bet. We will exchange three punches; the last standing person will take the angle-faced lady. I am sure even at Initiate Rank, you could put up some fight." He was grinning as he finished his proposal.

The protector behind spoke up for the first time, "Young Master, perhaps we should leave; we..."

Zale interrupted him and said, "Don't worry, I will finish him in one move, and we will complete our work."

"I don't have ownership over my friend to make a bet like this. But it seems you desperately want to get beaten again. So here are the terms: if I beat you, you won't stand in our way and let us go, and if I lose, I won't come in your way; my friend here will defend herself." I said, finding the best way to beat him, though I wasn't thinking about repercussions anymore.

"What's this? The chivalrous Aiden leaving a lady to defend herself alone. There's more change in you beside your looks, and I like it. If you were like that earlier, perhaps the Clan wouldn't have thrown you out. I accept," Zale said with confidence, already expecting his win.

"Young Master, now you are a part of the main family. You shouldn't do this kind of behavior in public. If you wish, perhaps..." The protector tried to say something, but Zale interrupted again.

"Just shut up and watch how I pummel this worthless F-rank fool. I always wanted to beat him once; he got away during the awakening ceremony, but now that I have my chance, nothing will come in my way, hehehe. I also got my hands on such eye-catching candy." He was grinning ear to ear.

He walked a few steps ahead and signaled me and said, "I will be magnanimous and allow you to hit me first. I want your beautiful friend here to see just how weak you are."

I didn't respond; my anger was bubbling at his words. This was a new sensation for me; I never got angry like this before. I activated my Insight Eye to check before I stuck him to the wall.

The information about him appeared in the form of a system panel.

[Name: Zale Arclight]

[Rank: Awakened]

[Threat: None]

[Emotional state: Excited & Hateful]

I move my eyes to the other two, just in case. The same pane appeared before me.

[Name: Ron Arclight]

[Rank: Grandmaster]

[Threat: Mid-High]

[Emotional state: Irritated & Relaxed]

[Name: Sam Bentos]

[Rank: Awakened]

[Threat: None]

[Emotional state: Excited & Excited]

"Keep the protector behind him in check, Searphine," I whispered after checking them out. She nodded in response.

"What happened? Why are you frozen? I have given you the..." Before he could complete his sentence, I rushed at him at my full speed.

I didn't activate any sigils; I didn't want to kill him accidentally. I could see his mouth moving slowly, trying to complete his sentence.

I focused a little bit of mana in my fist and half my anger in it and punched him straight in the gut. He was in no position to defend himself; he didn't even notice me punching him.

It took about a second, and suddenly, the blabbermouth Zale was lodged in the wall of the bank behind. There was strange silence, broken by the labored breathing of Zale as he tried to speak.

His eyes, which were gleaming with malice, were now filled with horror. "H-How? Ju-Just One Punch?" He fainted, unable to continue further.

The protector face was the most surprised; he looked ready to attack me, but before he could move an inch towards me, Seraphine stood behind him with her hand on his neck.

"Move a muscle and you are dead," Seraphine spoke coldly, and even I could feel the killing intent radiating from her.

The lackey, Sam, was no better; he registered everything late, "Ma-Master Z-Zale..." I was in no mood to hear his stutter.

So I moved towards him next; a mana-infused punch connected directly to his jaw, and he was thrown around like a ragdoll and fainted, probably with a broken jaw.

The protector was trying his best not to move; his earlier relaxed face was sweating buckets. He looked like he was gathering strength to speak.

"Knock him out," I commanded. She chopped his neck with a straight hand. The protector fainted with his face full of sweat and question marks.

"Here goes my plan to stay under the limelight before I leave this continent," I commented.

"Let's hurry up, Seraphine; we should leave early. I wanted to go shopping to buy some things for us, but now I have to wait." I addressed Seraphine as I turned and moved to the outskirts of the city.

"I would like to request something from you, Master Aiden," Seraphine spoke up. I saw the serious look on her face and decided to hear her out and nodded positively in response.

"Please never put me in a position like that again. As a sworn maid, I can't stand some lowlives commenting on my master like this. Please, if something like this happens in the future, allow me to handle it promptly." She put her request politely.

My anger has subsided after punching the light out of Zale and his lackey. So I took her words from her perspective and somewhat understood.

"Okay, but please do warn me before you break somebody, and we really should hurry up. The commotion here will bring more eyes; we should leave for our next destination immediately." I agreed and further added.

"Lead the way, Master Aiden." She replied happily.

We quickly left the three in their state on the road, moving to find some transport out of this city.
