'This girl'
She only wrote in the reports that she enjoyed watching the subjects suffer. Whilst not actually enjoying any of that.
To make sure the others in the Organisation saw her as a crazy mad researcher and scientist.
So that they don't look down on her and only see her as someone important enough to keep around, even if her requests in the future were to be crazed and damaging to the Organisation.
'But would that really have worked?'
Sure, they would keep her around, but there were plenty of crazy bastards out in the world who could replace her.
"Unless she is a genius"
That would complicate their decision to just kill her and find someone else to replace her which would delay it indefinitely.
Sighing, I shrugged my shoulders.
"Well, that's that"
It was astonishing to read, to the point where it made me feel just a twinge of twisting in my moral compass.
But that was all, this woman still killed so many people. That fact would not change.
All the innocents that fell to the mud of revenge she sought out did not deserve this.
Even if I felt sympathy in her desire for revenge. I could not relate to having to sacrifice anything and anyone's life just for a shot at killing someone you truly hate to the core.
"If you wanted revenge, sharpen your fangs until you can sink your teeth into the predator that wounded you"
That was what the unorthodox martial artists overseas kept telling their disciples.
Not that I agreed with that. Since I was quite in the weak sector without preparation.
"Anyway, a request is still a request"
And I carry out any mission a client requests of me. Be it finding a cat, kid, killing an entire gang that murdered your father. I would flawlessly present them with what they desired of my services.
That was my sole job, granting people's requests for the right price.
Emotions played no part, only there to spice up the suspense for even a fraction.
'Still, finding out anything about the divine physician who even I don't know much about is a plus benefit to have'
His mere existence sparked doubt everywhere in the world. Even the citizens living in the capital of Guang doubted his existence and some even sought to prove he truly existed.
"Only a century prior to the current present did his existence get proven"
To be exact, the sovereign of the Orthodox Faction let his existence be revealed.
"He seems like a shrewd old man"
Shaking those useless thoughts, I began searching for the emergency exit the logs faintly mentioned a couple of times.
"Nowhere huh?"
However, I was met with nothing but disappointing results left and right.
"Is it really here?"
Rattle!
Rattle!
Flicker!
Tremors spread throughout the room again, the lightbulb humming light downwards shook and flashed pure darkness for a split second.
"They are quite intimate above huh? shaking the entire building and all"
Truly the elite alright—
Thwack!
"Ug!"
A foreign object fell and hit me in the back of my head.
'W-what the'
As I caressed the struck area of my head, I looked up and saw a metal sheet that looked out of place with the ceiling taunting me.
"Don't fucking tell me"
It's the damn vent or escape path right?
'Please tell me I'm wrong'
Personally. I did not want to climb like a monkey, while carrying another person and having to break the metal sheet just to penetrate through.
"But, there isn't really anywhere I could turn to"
The search for the vent was not half-assed, I really did search high and above just to find it.
"Grumbling won't get the client to pay"
Saying these words, I began stacking crates and cardboard boxes on top of each other.
"Huff...Huff"
Breathing raggedly, I took in deep breaths.
'Those things fell on my face, torso and everything else way too damn many times!'
Picking up the pipe Riria had used.
Step!
My feet pounded with profound granite on the smooth brick of stone.
Jumping on the table. I sprang higher and higher, stepping on the crates to elevate myself higher and higher than before.
Until.
"...."
I reached the thin metal sheet bolted to the ceiling.
Regaining my foothold on a crate.
I thrusted with the pipe as if it were a sword.
Clank!
The flat surfaces of both metals clashed, my face. Inches away from the ceiling peered into the small abyss the pipe poked through.
Retracting the pipe, my body remained with a steady and fine balance, full of calm and resolution.
Clank!
I thrusted my long metal pipe onto the ceiling again, each thrust penetrating the sheet's folds.
Tak!
Until, fragments of metal dropped to the floor.
A gaping hole peered onto my figure, smiling at the pure destruction I did to shred something apart....
"...?"
Coming back down, to pick up Asfip, I spotted something on the floor.
"...."
'Is that, a screwdriver?'
I peer back at the hole created from my destructive strength.
Sigh
Sighing, I slung Asfip over my shoulder, muttering curses under a quiet breath as I took out a chalk from my bosom.
Chu
I kissed the chalk and spoke a prayer.
"Shοw υs yoυr βεnεvolεncε"
Eyes blinked a single time, the chalk in hand glowed as I uttered magic words to the chalk.
| SubVolo |
A gentle wind carried all my problems and weight in an instant.
Gravity stopped tugging at me, my boots gradually left the ground.
The chalk turned to dust and a piercing headache settled unnoticeably in a deep corner in my mind.
'45 minutes till the effects of the lightweight spell wore off'
Passing through the ceiling, reoccurring tremors kept rippling and shaking the vents, making the ride a bumpy one.
It felt as if I were swimming in the air, the more relaxed I was, the more my body floated and tried to touch the surface of the stratosphere.
'This spell can only be used underground'
Otherwise, I'd be praying for a dragon's wing to come and slap me down to the ground.
The spells I use now are fundamentally different from what mages are used to.
They were closer to shamanic spells than actual magic.
'A shame I need a medium though'
When travelling, border security guards would always for some reason ask me why I have so many chalks on my person.
Well, I am sorry for not being a proper mage you bastard, but this is the only way for me to use any kind of spells!
Miracles were a no go because of many external factors, Force was nonexistent and Mana which I could not use.
'What a bundle of misfortune'
I swear. Someone could definitely make a damn novel about this and profit.
Swimming through the vents, I hummed a soft tune that always lifted my spirits before.
This time being no exception.
