"Kael is currently in a meeting that will last at least two hours. His legal team is very thorough." Damian tilted his head. "We've planned this carefully, Asher. Every angle considered. Every gap accounted for."
Asher's heart was hammering but his mind was working. Working fast.
Stay calm.
"Damian." He kept his voice even. "Whatever you're planning right now—it's over the line. This isn't showing up at coffee shops. This is kidnapping. This is a federal crime."
"I prefer to think of it as a relocation."
"The police will—"
"By the time the police are involved, we'll be somewhere they can't easily find." Damian stepped closer. Hands still in his pockets. The posture of a man completely in control of the situation. "I don't want to frighten you. That was never my intention. I want you to understand that everything I've done—everything—has been because I care about you. Because I see your worth in a way Kael never has and never will."
