Chapter 16 - CHAPTER 16-THE BLADE TURNS

Kelly's vision swam as the hood was ripped from her head.

The warehouse smelled of oil, rust, and old secrets. A single bulb hung overhead, flickering like it was deciding whether to live or die. Her wrists were tied behind her back, rope cutting into her skin.

Don Pedro circled her slowly, the knife glinting in his hand.

"You always were dramatic," he said calmly. "Even now."

Kelly laughed weakly. "You're scared."

His steps stopped.

"I built you," he said. "You were nothing before me."

She lifted her chin. "And now you're nothing without me."

The knife flashed forward-

-and stopped inches from her throat.

Don Pedro leaned closer. "You don't get to provoke me."

"Oh, but I do," Kelly whispered. "Because you won't kill me."

His jaw tightened.

"You need me alive," she continued. "I'm your shield. Your proof that you're innocent."

Silence stretched.

Then Don Pedro smiled.

"You're smarter than I gave you credit for," he said. "Which is why you're dangerous."

He turned to the shadows. "Prepare her."

Kelly's heart dropped.

Across the city, Aham stood in a secure room as Jane Smith laid out the final pieces.

"Don Pedro made one mistake," Jane said. "He moved Kelly himself."

Clara frowned. "Why does that matter?"

Jane's lips curved slightly. "Because it puts him at the scene."

Aham straightened. "Then we trace the movement."

Already, technicians were pulling traffic cams, toll logs, private security feeds.

A digital map bloomed across the screen.

"He didn't trust his usual men," Jane continued. "He used his personal driver."

Aham exhaled. "Which means loyalty over discretion."

"And loyalty cracks under pressure," Clara added.

Jane nodded. "Warrants are being drafted."

Kelly was dragged into a smaller room.

A camera was set up.

Don Pedro watched from behind the glass.

"Record her," he ordered. "Make her confess everything-on my terms."

Kelly stared into the lens.

This was it.

If she spoke wrong, she'd disappear.

If she spoke right-

She inhaled deeply.

Aham watched the live feed as it came online.

"That's her," he said sharply.

Jane leaned forward. "He's forcing a false confession."

Clara clenched her fists. "We need her alive."

Aham's voice was cold. "She just needs to survive long enough."

Kelly began to speak.

"I... framed Aham Armstrong," she said shakily.

Don Pedro smiled.

"At Don Pedro's instruction?" a voice prompted off-camera.

Kelly paused.

Don Pedro's smile faded slightly.

"Yes," she said clearly. "At Don Pedro's instruction."

The room exploded.

"Cut!" Don Pedro roared, storming in. "You stupid-"

Kelly looked at him, eyes blazing.

"You wanted truth," she said. "You forgot I learned from the best."

The knife was back in his hand.

Sirens wailed in the distance.

Don Pedro froze.

"No," he muttered.

Jane Smith's voice came through the speakers in the control room.

"Don Pedro Alvarez," she said calmly. "This is the end."

The doors burst open.

Armed officers flooded the warehouse.

Don Pedro turned to run-

-and stopped when he saw Aham standing at the entrance.

Alive. Unbroken.

"Hello, Uncle," Aham said quietly.

Don Pedro's face twisted with disbelief.

"You were supposed to rot."

"I did," Aham replied. "And I came back sharper."

The knife clattered to the floor.

Handcuffs snapped shut.

Kelly collapsed as medics rushed in.

Aham watched her being lifted onto a stretcher.

Their eyes met briefly.

She whispered, "I'm sorry."

He said nothing.

But he didn't look away.

Later, as dawn broke, Don Pedro sat alone in a holding cell.

Jane Smith stood outside, arms crossed.

"Mr. Armstrong trusted me," she said. "You underestimated that."

Don Pedro laughed hollowly.

"You think this is over?"

Jane met his gaze. "For you? Yes."

Aham stood beside Clara on the courthouse steps.

"It's not finished," he said quietly. "But it's started."

Clara reached for his hand. "And this time, you're not alone."

He squeezed back.

Behind them, headlines were already forming.

But in the shadows-

Other enemies were watching.

And revenge, once awakened, never sleeps.
